Waiting for her to be sentenced to a few months in prison and immediately released for time served or 'overcrowding'.

[+]johnpetrie00[S] -9 points-8 points-7 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

She got 20 years

[–]TSwizzlesNipples 46 points47 points48 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No she didn't. She's been convicted but not sentenced. 20 years is the max she can get.

[–]Maskguy 28 points29 points30 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She deserves nothing less

[–]johnpetrie00[S] 23 points24 points25 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She probably deserves more

[–]dgillz 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She hasn't been sentenced yet. And she was charged a looooong time ago - like 3 years. She juts got convicted, sentencing in a couple of weeks.

[–]dgillz 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not charged, convicted. Sentencing is in a few weeks.

I don't see how this is a PussyPass. Do you think she should have been found guilty of murder and got involuntary manslaughter because she's a chick? Because this is a legal issue and reveals some strange intricacies with the legal system and how it views suicide and/or mental illness, not a gendered issue at all. "A charge of murder requires that the victim must die within a year of the attack." The word attack there is I believe the problem with this case, not the defendant's gender.

Involuntary?

[–]johnpetrie00[S] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Meaning she didn't mean to do it

[–]alex_dlc 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know what involuntary means, but how was that involuntary? She told him to get back in the truck.

[–]johnpetrie00[S] 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I investigated her as a student. She's a total bitch

[–]johnpetrie00[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meaning she didn't mean to do it

[–]wwwhistleri only look like i'm in charge 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

we don't really know if this is a PP yet. she has been convicted but not yet sentenced ....so we will see.

[–]throwitawaysam69mybu 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what I'm waiting for. The judge's big thing was that the kid didn't have to do shit, even though she was encouraging him. He'd tried to kill himself 3 times previously, but it was only when she was there to convince him to get back into the truck that he managed to finish it. So she played a part, but not enough for it to be considered murder.

Can't wait for sentencing.

The text messages alone are questionable as to whether or not they're protected by the first amendment. An internet troll telling someone "kys fag" is one thing, standard trash talk, but repeated text messages such as she sent, in my opinion, fall under "incitement to violence", which is not protected. (And she was basically inciting him to violence upon himself.)

An additional factor to consider here is that Massachusetts has a "duty to rescue" law, which she clearly violated.

However, until an actual sentence is handed down, this seems more like PPD than PP.

[–]hastur77 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's not quite true - it's not really an incitement charge that was brought, it was involuntary manslaughter. While not codified, Massachusetts case law has held that it requires reckless or wanton conduct that is likely to lead to serious injury. I think her text messages meet this standard. It's similar to incitement in the likely to cause some harm aspect though.

[–]chubbyronin 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, I did say in my opinion that's what it would be. I didn't say that's what it was charged as.

[+]shrekchan -41 points-40 points-39 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Ridiculous she was charged with anything. 1st amendment should've protected her.

[–]johnpetrie00[S] 34 points35 points36 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Please tell me you're a troll

[–]kaloonzu 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The ACLU is actually in agreement with this guy, they believe it should have been protected free speech.

Personally, I think what she did was akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater: her words served to endanger the life or lives of others.

[–]McDouggal 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's actually a legitimate issue here.

Not one I agree with, but it's an interesting legal issue. I personally find that her text telling him to get back into the car goes over the "'Fire' in a crowded theater" line, but it's still a legitimate legal concern.

[–]erowidtrance 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was still entirely the guys choice. This woman getting sentenced destroys the idea of personal responsibility. The guy was ultimately responsible for his choices whatever anyone said to him.

[–]erowidtrance 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree. She didn't force him to kill himself. Should every troll on the internet who says "kill yourself faggot" be sent to prison if someone happens to already be suicidal and it pushes them over the edge?

[–]theclockworkcorvid 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean the difference here is that she directly instructed him on what to do with the intention of him continuing his suicide attempt. You have an obligation to report a suicide in the first place, but she not merely did not tell anyone but encouraged him to end his own life, something he might not have done otherwise however I think an appropriate sentence in this case is a year, some sort of psychologist and no criminal record

[+]_Kaib_ -11 points-10 points-9 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I haven't subscribed this sub for no reason. There a many cases where women won't get what they deserve! But this is totally bullshit! He already WANTED to commit suicide. The only thing she has done wrong is that before helping him to do so is that she could have encouraged him to seek help. But if I was already completely convinced I want to take may own life it would be a blessing to have someone support me on that favorably a beloved one who will get me through the process knowing I'm not alone the moment I go. Girl has done nothing wrong.

[–]kiros_winstone 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, she pushed him. The messages alone indicate he was extremely hesitant. He was in a bad stage like many young males go through, so she took advantage of it as a method to indirectly kill him and gain sympathy as a bereaved girlfriend. Literally, for fucking sympathy. She's cancer, pure cancer. And unfortunately she's not some anomaly, there are others like her out there that will demean you and make you feel cowardly to get what they want, they're manipulators. Sociopaths are actually really good at this, women especially because having a vagina can practically dominate only.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He wasn't "completely convinced". Why don't you go actually read the conversations that were released to the public and see how:

a) He was still hesitant b) She most definitely did MANY things wrong.

Stupid fucking white knight
