Zara Phythian, actress from Doctor Strange, sentenced to 8 year for molesting a 13 year old. Her husband gets 14 years for molesting a 15 year old. What is the logic of women getting more lighter sentences?

Look, maybe I post too many posts about women specifically, not just male-exclusive situations, but look: Male babysitter = sued for child support? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!!!

She said "I'm already here, so I might as well fuck him" is because of rape culture. Does this mean that women can ("unintentionally") make men rapists against our intent? I almost wish I was gay... No gender/sex inequality excuses then, lol...

"Whilst you denied in cross-examination that you were besotted with Victor Marke, on the evidence I have heard I am in no doubt that your deviance was shaped by the influence that he had upon you from an early age.” The judge also said that Marke was the “driving force behind the abuse"

Even though you explicitly stated you raped the victim of your own volition, your just a stupid innocent girl. You couldn't have done this on your own.

This is exactly it. So fuck'd.

She was between 21 and 24. If that's too young to make decisions (I thought women matured faster than men...), then why the hell is the age of consent not around 25 with a gray area between 18 and 24?

[–]Ninjhetto[S] 62 points63 points64 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I assume it's the idea that men and women see sex and relationships stereotypically differently. If women do it, it's intended to be romantic and "well intention." I am sure women do it for predatory reasons as well. Hell, for both reasons, I'd argue men can be the same way, neither of which are good. I don't think it's surprising to think that gender stereotypes are considered and assumed in court cases rather than just looking at the crime itself. Intention does matter to me in most situations, but some things need to be seen for what it is and there are enough cases of fucked up women throughout history.

It's the patriarchy :) also that guy will suffer tremendously inside. Unless he's put into protective custody

She was supposedly under the spell of her deviant boyfriend.

Either women are functional adults and fully responsible for their actions, or they are children for whom any excuse will suffice to excuse their bad behavior.

She's 38 now, meaning she was between 21 and 24 when this happened between 2005 and 2008. Definitely too young to make her own decisions... (sarcasm).

[–]Calpernia09 26 points27 points28 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's such utter bullshit.

The judge and world don't want to see that women can be be abusers, that women can be worse then men in many cases.

I am a 40 year old woman and I was molested by 2 female family members.

We need to be clear that women and men are equal in this shit and let's hold us all accountable, fairly.

"Zara Phythian - who appeared in Doctor Strange with Benedict Cumberbatch - sexually abused a 13-year-old girl together with her husband Victor Marke. Marke also sexually abused a 15-year-old girl on his own."

He has 2 accounts of sexual abuse, she has 1. She gets a lighter sentence. Post title is misleading.

I didn't read the number of accounts besides the 14 between them. Not sure what I missed.

[–]CommonScold 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This particular article isn’t clear but the BBC article clarifies that the husband’s additional years were because he committed an additional offense on top of the crime they were both charged with, which she was not a part of:

”The pair were jointly charged with 14 counts of sexual activity with a child between 2005 and 2008.”

”Marke was sentenced to four years for abusing the girl on his own and a further 10 years for the abuse of the second victim with Phythian, from Taurus Close, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Phythian - who was tried under her married name of Zara Marke - was jailed for eight years for her part in the abuse of the second victim.”

So technically her husband was given two more years for the same crime, but there are a ton of non gender-related factors that can influence that. For instance that this was his second offense and her first.

Okay... I don't know what it is, but I couldn't see these other details. Maybe a page button or past the ads. I gotta check it again later.

Did you not even read the article? The judge stated “Whilst you denied in cross-examination that you were besotted with Victor Marke, on the evidence I have heard I am in no doubt that your deviance was shaped by the influence that he had upon you from an early age.” The judge also said that Marke was the “driving force behind the abuse”.

[–]Ninjhetto[S] 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

She was between 21 and 24 as of 2005 and 2008 (she's 38 right now). Did she not have the autonomy to say "no" and report him? She was an adult and able to drink in the US. Unless threatened, which isn't stated, if I agree with the idea of committing a crime with you, am I still not just as guilty, or did I have to come up with the idea first?

[–]Porkchops_on_My_Face -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's obviously a lot of things that weren't covered in the article that the judge knows, which they obviously took into account. Some people are easily led, influenced or even brainwashed. Some men are quite domineering and controlling as well. Some people have zero self esteem and are eager to please. Why do so many women stay with men that physically abuse them? There are so many variables.

I'm not defending her decisions or actions, just saying being outraged over something we know next to nothing about is pointless. As someone else mentioned, her husband committed more crimes as well.

[–]Ninjhetto[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I understand that she could have been abused and manipulated into the crimes, but there's also the fact that women generally have shorter sentences almost universally. Women almost never get sentences compared to men, and if they do, it's actually a big deal to people to take notice.

Look, gynocentric piece of shit talking.

[–]Lightsouttokyo 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Isn’t this discrimination? Can’t the judge be punished in some way for this?

[–]mapleleaffem -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It’s your post OP didn’t you read it?

[–]Ninjhetto[S] 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, it does say that Victor Marke was the "driving force," stating that he influenced Zara into doing it. Thing is, she was between 21 and 24, so she had the sense to leave and report unless she was being threatened.

[–]Obj3ctivePerspective 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People are just going to make excuses for her. She was an adult and made those decisions on her own. There was no duress. She's a woman and attractive. They always get off easier than most

[–]Dead_Dorian 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And she will go out of jail for about 3-4 years. Thats why women are new aristocraty, thats all.
