Let’s talk about narcissism.

If you look back at most world religions, they all agree that one of the biggest sins that humans can fall prey to is pride (aka narcissism). Why is so narcissism so bad? Well, for one it makes one unable and unwilling to feel any compassion or empathy for other people. For whatever reason, evolution decided that the alpha male did not need to feel compassion for the other apes. The feelings of compassion and empathy were reserved for the lower ranked apes who would get punished if they didn’t treat their fellow apes with respect. The alpha male did not have any such constraints, so they evolved to not care about what happened to the apes below them at all. Nietzsche noticed this and faulted religion for forcing people to feel compassion, because he felt that that emotion made them think like the lower-ranked apes rather than the ubermensch. In fact, one could argue that one of the biggest drivers of religion is a forced humility to “God.” One of the signs of America’s growing narcissism is the growth of atheism.

Pride was considered the worst of the sins because “it is like all the other sins combined.” A narcissist feels entitled to the best of everything and will pursue the wildest luxuries to their insane extremes. A normal person with humility will look at heroin and think “I don’t want to do that because heroin ruins people’s live” whereas a narcissist will think “I’ll try heroin because I want to know what it is like. I KNOW that I will be the 1% of people who doesn’t succumb to the addiction.” As we all know, studies show that most people rate themselves above average. Similarly, a normal person will look at a yacht and think “well that’s nice but that’s out of my price range” whereas a narcissist will see a yacht and think “I’m awesome, I deserve a yacht”!

The psychoanalyst Freud studied narcissism scientifically and classified as a real mental disorder, not a personality quirk. His nephew Edward Bernays invented the field of public relations in the United States, and was paid by corporations to create desires for their products. Bernays and his ilk quickly realized that they could cultivate narcissism in people and then take advantage of that narcissism to sell them products. As we discussed earlier, narcissism makes people feel like they are entitled to the best of everything and every amazing experience life has to offer, so they will work like slaves to achieve their fantasies.

So when piano companies paid Bernays to sell pianos, instead of advertising pianos, Bernays paid magazines to run articles about how all the sophisticated families had music rooms in their houses. Driven by their egos, people started to create music rooms. Now they have to buy pianos. There is a great documentary about Bernays, but I am too lazy to Google it now. A lot of observers were surprised in 1980 when so many Democrats voted for Reagan. It didn’t make any sense! The documentary explains why: the Republican party carefully cultivated an image of individuality, personal responsibility, and narcissism that attracted many Democrats who would not have otherwise been interested in conservative causes.

Today, narcissism is an epidemic in America and women suffer from this problem worse than men. Why? Well, to be successful at anything, one must be humble. Jay-Z is the biggest rapper alive because he learned from rappers that came before him and were better than him. He didn’t treat people like shit, he was realistic about his abilities, and he worked hard. That is why most extremely successful people are often very humble, at least in their field. Beautiful women don’t have to work hard to become beautiful – it is usually a combination of genetics and coming from the right background. For that reason, they get a ton of attention and compliments for doing absolutely nothing, creating terrible narcissism.

A date with a typical American woman is basically a therapy session for her narcissism. She talks the whole time about how great she is and her incredible accomplishments, she complains about people and things that intrude on her narcissistic fantasies, and generally show little regard for the feelings of anybody else (unless those people have experienced the same problems she has). A man with game just sits and listens, knowing what buttons not to push. Now all women are naturally hypergamous, but this insane narcissism is a trait that resides primarily in Western, and mostly American women.

This narcissism is terrible for women because it overrides all of their other emotions. A normal woman wants love, companionship, friendship, stimulating conversations, etc… However, a narcissist has an insatiable need to feel important and “better” than others. That is why a lot of beautiful women find themselves spending most of their time with douchebags at really fancy clubs and restaurants. If you interviewed them candidly they would admit that they hate those people, but the allure of VIP and status is irresistible to them.

Another symptom of narcissism is that women become attracted to men who just don’t care about them at all. Remember when we talked about the yacht earlier? Regular people know that they can’t afford a yacht, but a narcissist feels entitled to one. The same way, a narcissistic women does not just want an alpha man, she wants THE alpha man in the group, no matter if he is objectively too good for her. That is why narcissistic women are constantly getting their heart broken.

Imagine a woman with a huge ego. If you insult or belittle her, her ego will be offended and mark you as an “enemy.” She will insult you and then leave. But if you act friendly but generally act like you are not interested in her or you have better stuff going on, her ego will not be able to mark you as an enemy, nor will her ego be able to leave you alone. A normal person would say “well he’s not interested,” but a narcissist feels ENTITLED to have the biggest and best of everything, especially if she is used to getting it. So she will pursue, and pursue, and no amount of ignoring her or acting distinterested will deter her.
