The sad thing is, before TRP, I wouldn't think that this scenario is even real or would ever happen. Now, it doesn't surprise me. When people wonder how single moms happen, this is one of many scenarios that can lead to a woman becoming a single mom.

Living off everyone's taxes to sit around doing shit all and raising their poor kids to be deatbeats and sluts like mom. Having no father puts the children at risk for all kinds of behavioural and emotional problems. I read that being raised by a single mom increases the chance of being pregnant at 16 from 5% to 60%. Society is funding the creation of deadbeats

Talking to my mother she said that she knows all 50 y old men want her for sex so it's quite unlikely that she will divorce my father (even though she's unhappy). All her friends divorced in her 50s and are struggling a lot, depression and shit
Can't say a lot about their husbands but apparently they do not satisfy sexual not emotional needs of their women, which is something pretty basic
I've noticed that my mother is a clever one, she had one beta bf and then married my father, provider with alpha traits when it comes to work, and initiative/ambition. However he struggles a lot with social stuff

Let's see... I was Signed Recording Artist, Well paid scenic artist and totally schmoozy with the LA entertainment elite.
I got sick of it, moved to Nashville w/family to 'spend more time together'....(and live on less money)
"We" got a divorce as soon as the recession hit. Her Job had only grown while I had walked away from Money, a chance at reknown and attention.
I can Guarantee that Brian hasn't recently got a promotion, started a business venture or struck out on his own doing anything.

I think you give them far too much credit. They understand the past about as much as they can comprehend the future (not much). They make shit decisions for their future and they rationalize the past. It's part of their brain wiring.
In chimp society it's common for the new alpha male to commit infanticide against the infants of the troop's females. The alpha then proceeds to sire as many children as he can as many times as he can, until he is kicked off his position as alpha either by old age, sickness, or competition. It would do no good to the females to begrudge their new alpha who just killed their child. They accept the new social arrangement and bear the new alpha's kids--they will be strong and healthy kids because they were sired by the alpha. The previous alpha and the previous alpha's offspring? A distant memory. Really, they might as well not even exist. All that matters is who is on top right now.
The take home: don't jerk yourself off on revenge fantasies that one day she will "wake up" and realize how she fucked her life and made the wrong decision. You don't exist to a woman after you have been replaced. Mentally she blocks you out and re-writes history so that you were really never important to her, never the alpha of her eye, etc. All she cares about is the here and now, who is popular right NOW, who has ripped abs that make her moist RIGHT NOW, etc etc.

Only if Brian's situation improves relative to hers in a manner that cannot be hamstered away. Even then it will likely be framed as not her fault.
Ex. I have a buddy who was moderately successful at work, and who basically tried to be a good ("blue pill") husband and father.
Wife divorces him, but they were both spenders and there wasn't much to divide up.
Fast forward 10 years. He now runs his own business and has loads of cash. The kids (3; one of them wasn't his, but he acted in loco pater, even though she cucked him)1 have all aged out of child support and alimony was finished, so the ex couldn't get a hold of his $$$.
She.Was.Pissed. [She's also pissed that the 2nd wife is 15 years younger than her, and pretty.] She shacked up with the father of the 3rd kid who is just an average joe. She un-made her bed, as it were, and now she has to lie in it.
1 His 2nd wife was a medical professional and sniffed it out. She kept on him to have a DNA test done--too late to fight it, but the new wife was only too happy to expose the ex-wife as a lying slut.

Had dinner with my dad and his buddy last night. His buddy is getting out of a 25 year marriage after he found out his wife was cheating on him. I expected him to be a shell of himself but no, he is waking up, rebuilding his relationships with those around him and getting the legal support to ensure his wife gets as little as possible.
But like OP's friend, the wife is trying to shift the blame. The fact he was working offshore to fund his wife and kids lifestyle counts as abandonment apparently.

Did he cheat on her? Was he a loser who played games 24/7? Was he a drunk? Did he only shower once a week?
So many legitimate reasons for her to dump his sorry ass.
Maybe he was too weak willed to realize the marriage sucked. She did, and had the guts to take action.
