So you have no degree, no job, barely enough cashflow to stay afloat, how the fuck do you expect to become an entrepreneur?
[–]JB-Enterprises[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Sorry about that, like I said very new here
I have a few eCommerce websites that are doing fairly well, but not well enough. Every morning I wake up and watch at least two hours of videos related to starting businesses, eCommerce, marketing, etc.

Well step 1 is to get a job obviously. You need capital

ell step 1 is to get a job obviously. You need capital
depends on the job. lots of internet businesses started with no capital. how well is fairly well?
[–]JB-Enterprises[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That's the plan. Applied to about 30 last night
[–]blackedoutfast2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
quit dicking around applying to job openings on the internet. it's easy to do, people are lazy and like to do easy things, everyone else also looking for a job also applies to dozens of internet job openings. so you have lots of competition, and many of the people applying for those same jobs will be far more qualified for the job than you. your applications probably get auto-filtered to the trash pile without ever being seen by a human being. it's basically like using tinder as a low SMV guy.
you basically have no real qualifications for any high quality job at this point. your best shot is to go out, introduce yourself to people in the real world, and hope that you can convince them to overlook your lack of qualifications due to your personal charm or ambitious attitude or some other bullshit like that. and you probably won't be able to con your way into a bigshot white collar executive position.
your best bet is to try to get involved in some kind of sales. maybe going door to door or annoying your friends trying to sell them insurance/knives/whatever. maybe trying to sell used cars. maybe being a bartender trying to sell more expensive drinks or working in a store selling underwear.

Well when you get one, you can schedule around it and everything should fall into line
[–]NoFapColdShower0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Get the job, help your mother and cut out un-necessary shit like netflix, going out to eat and all that type of extra entertainment luxury shit. (learn to budget. look into dave ramsey envelope method. makes shit super easy and simple.) Your food budget should be super cheap but healthy shit like brown rice, canned fish, raw chicken, ground beef, canned vegies (or fresh if you can afford). Have a schedule. and save up for a gym membership. Keep trying to advance your income (something I can't really give you advice on as it is different for everyone.).

Dave Ramsey is the 🐐 we listen to him all the time
[–]NoFapColdShower0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
good, then between him RP advice and proper nutrition you should be able to rise up in the world if you just grind.

Every morning I wake up and watch at least two hours of videos related to starting businesses, eCommerce, marketing, etc.
Bruh, you're goin down wantrepreneur lane.
DO, don't watch.
2 fucking hours?
You could be marketing and doing things that actually make money in those 2 hours.
[–]JB-Enterprises[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I completely agree. I'm hungry to take action. I just don't know what the action is yet. That's why I watch vids
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Vids aren't gonna eureka into existence action.
Where are you right now in your businesses and where do you want to be?
[–]JB-Enterprises[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Right now I'm at the bottom, maybe a step above other people my age. I've got good growth going and instead of playing video games or whatever my friends are doing I'm focusing on my brand. However it's nowhere near enough to live off of.
The end game is to make money of these businesses, invest that money into other things, then keep doing that as a side hustle, and use the large amount of income to found an entertainment conglomerate of some sorts.
So what are the videos for?
[–]p3n1x0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
This sounds like a case of "don't know what to do". As everyone here has said, "get a fucking job", don't wait for the right job. You applied to 30 places? Means you don't know what you want yet. Put the hunger for the "exciting shit" away and start at step 1.
I just don't know what the action is yet.
You can waste time figuring this out (because nobody here is going to answer that for you) OR use that time making money. Shit jobs are always hiring.
Next, knock off the fucking daydreaming. You are way too high on yourself at the moment, here is why:
If you really want to help your mom out, you wouldn't be here looking for your "idea's to be validated", your ass would be mopping up puke, shoveling shit or digging a hole right now. Get your hands dirty.
Stop being afraid of failure, stop trying to be the shining light of hope and go get some money for moms.
Next, no school is a terrible and delusional idea. You are going to need support from someone else with money at some point. Unless your idea is "FUCKING AMAZING" those people aren't going to hand their money to a degree-less dreamer.
[–]Arabian_Wolf0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Try applying for starup incubators/ accelerators, if you have a brilliant idea to add to your website.
[–]MoronicBobbin4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Learn to code. Internet has probably made more millionaires who started out with nothing in the last 20 years than all other industries combined, and its still the wild west.
E-commerce is good if you can source something only you have access to. Otherwise get ready to get your ass handed you on a plate like all the ebay middlemen who are getting BTFO.

Get a job that allows you some financial freedom so you can make mistakes and not go into debt.
GET A JOB THAT ALLOWS YOU SOME FINANCIAL FREEDOM, not a job that lets you even out at zero while you support your mother.
If you're an aspiring entrepreneur, read the information provided at YCombinator or StartupSchool, whose most major tenets are the following; idea, product, team, execution. Find your idea, build an MVP, give it to people, collect their feedback, build another (better) MVP, rinse and repeat until you win. That's called the LEAN cycle, a business version of the scientific method.
Bonus: find a co-founder if you don't want to suffer the weight of the world and the crippling loneliness that is inherent in business from the get-go. But you will suffer both eventually, provided you have the grit to actually iterate.
http://startupclass.samaltman.com/
Bonus: Don't look for funding without a proven business that is making money or showing extremely rapid growth, you won't get it and you will waste your time. Look for funding when you're making money and/or have a positive month over month growth percentage. VCs are not the easy way out, they are some of the most talented individuals when it comes to sniffing out bullshit - it's their livelihood and their legacy - they will not hand you $150,000 to fuck around with. They make an exchange with you in order to further your company's growth, not start it - and they want a return.
Bonus: Angel investors too - either you have them or you don't, either way, Uncle Harold is not going to impart his offshore money into your pet idea unless you show him that you are growing, making money, or you have a massively original idea that he falls in love with.
Bonus: Don't spend more that two days validating your business model, two weeks building an MVP or two months per iteration cycle. Anything above that is generally far, far, far too long and you will die when it comes time to take advantage of a 'wave'.
"It's lonely at the top" - statistically, no one ever even gets there. Statistics don't matter, so just focus on iterating your thing.
Holy shit, thank you so much for this. Going to be a long night researching all of this
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No problem, I forget how weird it is for aspiring business dudes outside the Valley so I figured I'd just hit you with the basic learning sources, have fun!
[–]p3n1x-1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Should be a long night of making money.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Starting a business is the most difficult way to make money short term, it's really a lifestyle - and it starts when you get committed to something (i.e. lifting weights), you train your brain to accept the fact that there will be long winters of weighing only 130lbs when your goal weight is 165lbs, but you keep going because "that is what I do" - then later on, you are adapted to forcing yourself over obstacles despite short term failures, you become the essence of a vanguard - the spearhead of your own success through sheer will - when Elon Musk says that a friend of his called it, 'eating glass and staring into the abyss' it seems like a mildly un-funny over-statement of a fast-paced industry, but it really is similar to that overall.
Also in terms of weightlifting; it basically starts off as solo weightlifting with a goal weight, then team-based weightlifting with an average goal weight, then it ends up being team-based weightlifting with everyone doing a different exercise - and the catch is that, right from the beginning, the weights will only lift if you give them something worth lifting for.
[–]p3n1x0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That sounds like plan, or basic beginning. Which OP admits they have none of. So, make it however you can while you are directionless. Be in motion. Nobody gets their gainz in weightlifting if they spend the majority of the time pondering which muscle group to start with. Until you walk through the front doors, its all bullshit.

1) You're an aspiring entrepenuer? You're a delusional and impatient kid and your 'advisor' is an idiot. Most men who become entrepeneurs do so in their forties after having money saved. Why on earth would you take a 2 year break from college? I know why you're doing it, to feed your delusion and ego that you'll randomly come up with something in those 2 years that will make serious money.
Obviously the logical thing to do would be to finish your degree asap, get a good job so your mum only has to work the one, and then start saving up and gradually put money into investments and try some ideas. Now thanks to this your mum has to work 3 jobs for an additional 2 years so you can masturbate over some dream that you can't even express in any tangible sense because you really do not have an idea.
[–]kamikazelifestyle0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Harsh but true. I used to be exactly like OP. Finally decided I needed a job to fund my projects and I wasn't going to be that broke loser just trying to make it big. Decided on a 2 year degree in computer programming so I could get a good job in the least amount of time AND simultaneously learn all the necessary skills to start my online businesses from scratch. The degree also served as a Plan B in case the entrepreneurial route didn't workout. Double whammy. Same dream, way better execution.
[–]JB-Enterprises[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have to take a 2 year break in order to get into the Business program and get an actual degree. I'm not the best as school so I had some poor grades, and they are allowing me to come back and join the program once the failed classes are canceled out. It's a forgiveness policy by the university.
Don't think I'm sitting around with my thumb up my ass. I'm constantly looking for new ideas and researching market trends daily. And look at all the new tech companies making it big these days, all by people in their twenties and thirties. I agree with you I don't have an idea, but don't get it confused that I'm sitting here just wishing instead of doing.

Find a job asap, doesn't matter if it's min wage or six figures just get something, preferably as many hours as your mom. It's not RP to have your mommy take care of you. On your off hours work on lifting, educating yourself in business, and improving your employment status.
[–]JB-Enterprises[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I've been taking care of myself for the past 2 years. End game is to take care of mom.
[–]mushroom_overlord1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sorry the way I read it it looked like your mom was financially providing, if the side gigs gave you enough money to be independent financially then you can ignore that part.
"Side Hustle" isn't taking care of shit. Stop ignoring some of the hardcore advice going on in this thread.
[–]Tuxedoyoda0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Huge mistake to quit school. Huge. Go back to school.
Not outright quitting, failed some classes and in 2 years they are forgiven, so then I can come back to school and finish the degree.
