It's OK and quite smart to remain undeclared the first year. Take a variety of classes and see if any interest you. You might be surprised.

Not pursuing piano as a career does not mean you're giving it up. Most people pursue a more stabile, lucrative profession and happily keep their more artistic interests as satisfying hobbies. And, frankly, very few artists/musicians are able to make a lot of money when they choose that as their career.

Become aware of who you are.

I've written this reply in another thread:

Start investigating your own interests and what you feel naturally inclined to like. What is the common thread? What's the underlying value or concept? The goal is to find the core principles of what makes things effortlessly interesting to you. Another approach would be to make a list of all your strengths, interests and values without censorship. Out of these three lists, distill the most prominent and important ones to give you a clearer image of what you value in life. A possible take on synthesising this information is to look at what activities or professions make best use of these core values, or which are closest related to them. Another useful piece of knowledge is to know the way you function best. For instance when you know your values, there are different ways of making them tangible, however there are only a handful of approaches that are truly in line with your way of thinking and acting. This is a slightly trickier concept to discover, but it can be done. Start paying attention to how you approach problems. Do you dive in, action first? Or do you analyze it to death and then, after a long period of theorycrafting act by taking the most effective first step? Or does the challenge of the problem end for you once you've analyzed it and realized how to solve it in theory? Do you lead others naturally, or do you lead only when you see a clear necessity? Or do you thrive when someone gives you a framework to work in? A myers briggs test could be of use here, though it's never a perfect personal answer. The most important thing is to start becoming aware of who you are and where your natural interest and workflow stems from. Start paying attention to yourself in that regard and ask yourself how your specific set of skills and interests can offer value to others.
