Was at a beach club: most girls on the dance floor had a partner. Others were in groups (both girls-only and mixed).

I was having fun and enjoying the music, so I decided to approach. I couldn't get eye contact or IOIs, and girls were in groups with their backs facing me.

I tapped on one's shoulder and extended my hand, maintaining eye contact. She briefly looked at me with disinterest and turned around.

Did the same with another, this girl took my hand and I spun her. We danced together but she didn't make any eye contact. I asked her name and had light conversation on the floor, teased her but she was unresponsive. I escalated and moved her closer but she went back to her group pathetically waving me goodbye.

Tried with yet one more girl, she took my hand and I spun her, asked for her name but she replied "I don't remember" and went back to her group.

Finally I approached a mixed group with a friend, barely said "hi" just to have her boyfriend jump in my face with the look of an angry gorilla. My friend was being confrontational but I played it cool, laughed it off, and defused the situation.

After that I wasn't in the mood anymore.

Any tips on how to be better at this? Especially after getting a girl to grab my hand and dancing. Escalating feels weird without eye contact.
