One of my lifelong goals is to climb a mountain on each continent (skipping Antarctica). This requires extensive training and preparation. I'll be able to see some amazing sites around the world and meet interesting people.

"Purpose" is a fancy word for "hobby".

You can become the most important man on Earth who does great things, but in 100 years when you're dead, all that will be left of you is a statute that pigeons shit on and a few lines in a history textbook.

If leaving some kind of mark in the world or some kind of legacy means something to you, that's fine. That's great, actually. But that's no better or worse than getting laid, making money, and getting swole. It's just a different hobby you happen to have.

Some hobbies get you laid, make you friends, and get people lining up to hand you money. Other hobbies are just for you and don't get you any of that. But in either case, trying to declare certain hobbies as "missions" or "purposes" as though that somehow makes you a higher order of more enlightened man is silly.

Some guys go to the soup kitchen in their spare time. Some guys build homes for the homeless. Some guys practice BJJ. Some guys read books. These are all hobbies.
