Masculinity is nothing but set of traits just like nerdiness and motherliness are. You either have those traits or you don't. The idea that anybody should train for it is ridiculous and negates individuality.

I sleuthed on your posting history for a bit.

Nine months ago, you were writing about looking for help for your abandonement issues and recognizing it (correctly) as something that causing you to act horribly against your partner (and of course, future partner).

How far has the treatment been going on?

As someone who once had a brush (not even dating) with someone with abandonement issues, causes by their upbringing (similar to your case), it is enough for me to say that I will never even try to befriend someone with abandonement issues who does not try at least to work on their issues.

Quite simply put, people with untreated abandonement issues are completely impossible to interact with. These people have constant anxiety, paranoia, negative thoughts and little empathy for people around them (makes sense, because they constantly see themselves as abandoned victim. And when you are in a state of constantly seeing yourself as a victim, it is hard to empathize with people around you).

My advice is that before you even think about this whole masculinity thing, get real reign of your abandonement issues first and foremost. That should be your priority. And it will take years, because it happened also over the course of so many years.

Very masculine man with abandonement issues exist, and they are as difficult to deal with as any other people with abandonement issues, regardless of their gender and sexual orientations.
