simply get into conversation with one of them (I usually go for the less attractive girl because they enjoy the attention and are less likely to brush you off) you may have to use some tricky positioning moves if they're all just standing together. Once everyone realizes that you are the most interesting thing happening at that moment, you'll have all their attention. Raise your voice a bit so everyone can hear you tell a short, concise, funny, and slightly self-effacing story. If you do this right, the group is yours. There will usually be one girl, (not necessarily the one you opened) who will make it known that she likes you by touching you or something and laughing at everything you say even if it's not even remotely funny. This is your target. Your ability to command the attention of an entire group will look really good to them, and anyone in the vicinity who sees what is going on. Hope this helps. Probably not the only way, but this is the way I would do it.

I also prefer to open the whole group. Just talk loud enough for them to hear you. Make sure you open with an energy level that is higher than their environment or and higher than the energy within the group or you'll lose their attention.

Depending on how interesting and funny you open will determine how many of them will give you their attention. Of the girls that give you their attention you can pick one to isolate Or you can pick on one that isnt. Giving you attention in an attempt to drag her into yhe conversation.

Dont feel like you have to perform well, even with a normal conversation chill-type opener you'll likely grab the attention of one or two. If you don't, plow till you do.

My favorite thing to do for large groups of girls is to pick one, take her hand, and begin dancing with her in a ball room or salsa fashion in plain sight of the rest of her friends (possibly right in the middle of their circle), you will have the instant attention of the entire group. Words aren't necessary, I'm usually peacocked up and already dancing, I have a group of friends nearby or with me, and a wing man possibly using the same move I am on a another girl in the same group (when we tag team two of them theres some added peer pressure if one doesnt want to go along with it). When choosing a target im looking for a girl thats smiling, usually the first one to make eye contact and not look away (if there is a bachelorette or a birthday girl, she is the obvious choice). After a minute or two i've usually won the attention of the entire group and I can work my usual game, pick a target, isolate, ect. You don't need to be a professional dancer to pull this off, just learn the basic salsa steps from youtube or something and practice some spin moves.
