Don't be scared of silence. Silence does speak loudly, but make your silence say the right things by owning it, don't get fidgety and keep eye contact until the words come to one of you...this increases your mystery and indifference if done well.

Utilize conversation threading. It's the most basic social skill in existence. Branch off of key words and phrases to formulate your responses and continue the subject or transition to new subjects. It is very difficult to run out of material by doing this, if you do see above.

Don't try too hard. The less you worry about being smooth, the more smooth you will be. You are actually better off being the aloof idiot talking nonsense because that signals the opposite of "try hard" energy. Men and women are supposed to be opposites that go together easily like salt and pepper, for this reason trying too hard to get them is repulsive to women.

If this happens, it's because they can smell your ulterior motives. They sense that you are trying to be friendly, but that actually, your goal is to put your dirty little penis inside their precious vagina.

When a guy, that they don't know very well, is talking to them. Women will automatically think "why is he talking to me?" If you don't give some excuse as to why you're talking to them. Or you don't make it obvious, they will begin to think along the lines of "oh he's a sneaky little seducer". And then they will give you the cold shoulder because you're not providing any value. You're not being funny. You're not lightening the mood. You're just asking questions. Which is asking for them to carry the conversation. Too many questions and you're asking too much of them and not giving enough.

Sorry if this is a bit philosophical. But it comes down to the vibe. And that is not that concrete. They can tell that you have an insecure vibe. A vibe of being a bit desperate, needy, and trying to get something from them. Rather than just having fun and being social. Or even hitting on them directly, they will reject your advance even if your advance isn't that obvious.

Work on your social skills. Work on shooting the shit and having fun instead of conducting interviews. Practice making more statements and open-ended questions rather than just asking questions and especially close-ended questions that can be answered with just one word.

"What class are you taking?" Is a close ended question. "How do you feel about this class?" Is an open ended question.

Primarily you just need more practice and give less of a fuck. Practice talking to strangers. Practice to get to know people from scratch. You'll get better at it over time.

Stop having over expectations of what you want to happen. When you have expectations for an outcome, you become attached to it and that causes you to get nervous and awkward.

Don't ask boring questions, to not receive bored one-word answers.

To give you a hint, things you might think are interesting, may be boring to women, while things women find interesting, may be boring to you.

Women are generally interested in emotions: people, interpersonal relationships, that sort of stuff.

For example, a boring question would be "what do you do for a living?", while an interesting question would be "how do you feel about your current job?". Almost the same question, but framed in a way to be interesting to women.

This is why Mystery came up with routines/scripts/games/jokes to use when talking to a girl. Not everyone is a natural speaker and sometimes you have to copy someone else, otherwise there will be those awkward moments of silence.

The modern PUAs don't mention this concept, they assume that everyone already know what to say and actually I saw on youtube Todd V. saying that you should like the silence in the conversation - but for a beginner, this is completely BS.
