What happened to Mystery and Style?

For those of you who don't know, Mystery and Style are some of the founding fathers of the PUA movement. Will always have massive respect for these guys!

I'm following Mystery on Instagram & Facebook. His coaching business continues to this day (although not thriving like it was in the early 2000's). He isn't a relevant public figure like he once was. He was considered a demi-god at one point amongst all the people in the pickup community.

"Style", AKA Neil Strauss, has always been an incredible author and writer. He recently published this incredible article for the Rolling Stones. I highly recommend anyone follow Neil (although he's less focused on pickup now).

I think we can get a little deeper with some more details about what they've been up to.

A picture starts to emerge from accounts written by other PUAs that used to run with Mystery and Style.

Though they pioneered the whole "seduction community," they still had their own dragons to slay that kept them from meeting some of their relationship & dating goals, even as they were living out the whole fun rockstar lifestyle.

One such account reads:

.... Mystery and Style – the two most iconic figures of the seduction community – both became perfect examples of how NOT to have an LTR. .....I saw Mystery “closing” lots of beautiful women but he was always depressed about being alone. About not finding his pair bond(s).

After 5 years of seeing myself and other Pickup Artists failing in the love department, I learned that when it comes to dating, attraction matters – but when it comes to love, intimacy matters.

And this is where we run into conflict. Because if dating is based on a power dynamic then you must maintain that power.

.....all the techniques developed to demonstrate higher value naturally revolved around self-esteem and control – and most importantly, it directly opposed any intimacy. It’s totally destructive, long-term.

The interesting thing is that Style and Mystery had different responses to the issues they faced, which set them apart.

____1: Style____

Style moved on philosophically from where he was back when he wrote the Game. He found that working on "game" as he had, left him addicted to the validation he was getting from having sex with new people all the time. He had to check himself into therapy after he found himself compulsively cheating on his now wife, when he apparently didn't really want to.

He ended up putting out a follow-up book to "The Game," called, "The Truth," where he basically talks about his personal journey to heal (work on his inner game) so that he could meet his relationship goals. About the journey that led to that book being written, Strauss/Style says:

"....you realize The Game was about being in this power relationship—ok, you’re safe because you’re in control, you’re not being vulnerable. Even the relationships you get in are maybe with people you feel safe with because you’re in control. There’s no way you can have intimacy from that. "

So his whole philosophy has changed with regard to dating and relationships. Though he does also say that he needed to walk the path that he did, in order to get where he is now. He just doesn't relate to his old self very much anymore.

____2: Mystery____

His journey has been as messy as Style's, with the difference being that he seems to still be fighting the same patterns that apparently caused his relationships to fail, back then.

He had a rather public meltdown on social media following his baby mama's refusal to let him see their children. So despite his business still being up and running, his dating life still appears to be a mixed bag for him.

And despite the ease he finds in connecting with women, some element of relationships apparently eludes him, as his lack of having settled down and lack of good relations with the mother of his children, would seem to indicate.

Mystery is working as pickup coach for 3SR (3 second rule) dating company. He's doing bootcamps around the world all the time.

Well idk about Style, I guess he's not teaching pickup anymore since his career as writer is doing good.

pretty sure Strauss wrote either a book or lengthy article basically condemning the PUA movement.
