When I approach a girl I use a direct approach

That's fine but what do I do next I don't want to be basic but I don't know how to keep the flow of the conversation I got a few numbers but they are too shy because I didn't stay too long enough in the approach...

Is it ok to ask basic questions after I tell her my name Like what do you do and stuff but I feel it's overly basic
