It's not like all guys become of age and immediately change who they are to get with women. Plenty continue to "be themselves" and fail to find someone.
Clearly being themselves isn't what is valued. Bit part of being an adult is changing to meet circumstances and to achieve goals. Unfortunately, that means you need to stop being yourself.

Eh you’re right but he was, again, being a bitch so I stopped paying attention. Overall if you can’t be yourself with someone then they’re not for you but I do understand that it isn’t easy finding that person and adjustments need to be made. The advice wasn’t even meant to be advice it was just meant to be a sweet little story. Didn’t even think to word it better so that’s on me if I’m being honest. I guess the real advice is for them to stop trying so hard cause the smell of desperation is scaring the girlies away.
