An ex picked me up from the airport at 3am on a week night. I told him when I'd land and had planned on taking the train but he told me he'd rather pick me up because I'd be really tired when I landed and he wanted me to be safe.

Do you know them well enough to discuss your ideal partner with them? Was this a logical next step in the conversation you were having? If not, why bring it up at all? Edit: Unless I'm certain that there are only platonic feelings on either side and we're good enough friends to talk about such personal things I don't talk about preferences in partners with men. It can either end up unnecessarily hurting feelings or coming off like I might be interested in them. Edit 2: There was no reason for hi…

Not really, it just shows me the kind of man I don't want to marry. I'm not going to marry for the sake of being married but if I meet someone I want to spend my life with then that's a completely different scenario.

Sure, it takes more than that to be a HVM but paying attention to your partner, knowing their preferences, showing that you celebrate their accomplishments are definitely some of the criteria.

The time it takes to sort through people who would be an instant no if I saw them in real life is crazy. Instead of seeing someone for a few seconds and seeing if I find them attractive, like their hygiene, appearance, manners, weight, fitness, bearing, height, grooming, style etc. I'm stuck looking at a profile with minimal useful information or shoddy pictures that are years old. Edit: I gave up after a week so I'm sure how relevant this info is.

Your point on it being hard to resist when it's in the house is so true! I would never seriously date someone who doesn't have a healthy diet or who snacks a lot on unhealthy things because it's so easy to get pulled into it too. It's easy for me to not buy sweets and snacks when I'm not hungry but it's much harder to resist the open bag right in front of me when I am hungry and making something healthy will take at least 15 minutes more.

It's not an entire book. Just a few pages you can find at the back in some editions and it might not always be titled 'sequel'. You might be able to find it online seeing as the copyright has definitely run out by now.

The song is about as FDS as it gets and if the film had been ended there then the whole thing would have been very FDS aligned.

The best part is that Shaw even wrote a sequel which explains why they wouldn't work in a relationship and part of his reasoning was that Higgins was too old for her, idealised his mother too much and didn't respect Eliza. She would have been able to find a man closer to her age for whom she would be a priotity. Honestly, this sequel should be part of FDS literature.

This is hilariously bad. No older than 22 but successful enough to afford very high end luxury and all of that personal maintainance and no fast fashion at all (so 6 figures at least) very intelligent, beautiful, underweight, fit but somehow also subservient and with so little self esteem as to go for a guy who can't even make himself a coffee in the morning. If this wasn't satire then the guy's delusional.

She should return it and then wash her hands of him. She should send him an email asking for a postage address and a date by which he needs to give it to her or she'll drop it off with his brother for him to collect. Not because it's the nice thing to do but because he sounds like the kind of person who would absolutely go to the police and report the watch stolen.

They're also just shooting themselves in the footby doing this. If men constantly lie about their height by 2-3 inches on dating apps then women are eventually just going to change their height preferences if it really matters to them and if it doesn't then the lying will likely be the dealbreaker.

Exactly. It's a statement that's always tied to a woman having too much success and independence rather than about a man actually stepping up and contributing. Women love men who shoulder their half of the mental load and put in the work to build a loving and respectful relationship but that takes effort. It's so much easier to just complain about women doing too much... when it makes them look bad in comparison.

If it's a cheap coffee and cuts down the time to pay and leave then sure, but if it's a meal then I dont't feel I need to subsidize his hook-up budget. Maybe it will make him feel bad, maybe it won't but seeing as I'll never see the man again, why should I care what he thinks when I've already made up my mind about him? Edit: Frankly, I've never been in this situation so it's more of a hypothetical. The last time I was asked out to a coffee I just declined the date.

Honestly, being driven and talented and successful is great but most, if not all, of the female characters I've seen in films and series have a glaring issue in their personal lives if they're being portrayed as successful in their career. I think being a HVW is not just about having a successful career but also about having a happy and fulfilling life, good friends, an ability to take care of ourselves and an ability to critically reflect on our actions and take responsibility for them.

I agree, fame can and does change people. Even if one or both of them was an amazing HVM before they became famous, the constant visibility, the need to pander to audience that might always be there, the need to stay relevant or roles might dry up (or brand endorsements) would be enough to make anyone a LVM narcissist. I like the way Hugh Jackman talks about his wife, it provides a wholesome contrast to most male celebrities and we desperately need more visible examples of famous men treating th…

The posts about depraved men really are disheartening. I know men like that exist but while being cautious and having boundaries is so important, constantly reinforcing the men are bad narrative isn't going to help anyone find a good man. Good men are out there and I'm friends with some, I just haven't met the right one for me yet. I think it's partly the de facto two party system that's been established there. Each party seems to define itself by not just its own values but also by disagreeing with the other party. In countries where there are more political parties the extreme right voters would vote for a different party than the centre right conservatives etc. Particularly if they'd need to form a coalition to govern there would be a lot less anti-'other party' rhetoric and more discussion about the specific difference…

What I like about the podcast is the fact that the hosts each have an internally coherent belief system. I might not agree with everything they say but I'm never blindsided by an idea or argument they bring. Elle didn't seem to have this. She sounded a lot like many people either side of the political spectrum who have picked a position on issues based on what people around them think rather than really analysing her own beliefs, why she has them, working out the inconsistencies and forming a co…

Unfortunately I agree. I think having someone with a different political perspective included on the political podcast is a really good idea but I don't think they've found the right person for it. Perhaps she was nervous on the podcast, perhaps she was ill prepared but honestly, the last episode just wasn't great. What is needed is someone who knows who she is, what she believes in, and why and can coherently and logically explain that.

It takes their being directly related to a girl they're responsible for from an age too young for them to sexualize (in most cases) for some men to realize this. All men are directly related to women, somehow that's not enough for some.

Me too. I've certainly been around men who could take care of their cuticles better or moisturize their heels or use conditioner or something like that, but basic hygiene has never been an issue. How does a woman come across a man with a complete lack of hygiene and think 'that's good dating material'? I'd be embarrassed to introduce someone like that to friends and family even if I didn't have an issue with it which I do.

What an arse. Just record it and put your phone away for an evening. Of course his wife is angry. He literally bailed on an important event that has been planned for a year a week before it's due to take place and even made contingency plans behind her back before talking to her about it meaning this is likely going to make its rounds through her entire circle of acquaintances.

Considering that women are statistically happier alone than in a relationship, men should be worrying more about themselves. HVM or single, those are the only viable options for me.

So disliking abusive men equates disliking all men... but women should give men a chance because there are good men, however if she gets hurt it's her fault for picking the wrong man? LVM logic baffles me.

I've seen a few and frankly the way women are treated is crazy. There's a drama called 'The King' on Netflix in which the male lead treats the female lead like utter garbage and this is supposed to be romantic? I barely made it to the end of the first episode.

I have better things to do than waste any more of my time pandering to insecure men. Just listened to it for the first time, I don't think you're reading too much into the lyrics at all. I agree with all of the points you've made. Women are shamed for having boundaries even if their partner has agreed to them, for wanting a fulfilling sex life with their partner, for wanting to be in a relationship with a person and not just sharing space with them. If these points were turned around, most men would be arguing to divorce her yesterday but when it's a man most people seem to think it's perfectly fine. I've found that genuinely shy people don't tell other people they're shy. Those who tell you right off the bat that they're shy or have a dark sense of humor or something similar are usually trying to preemptively excuse their behaviour.

Witty conversation is something I find really attractive, so a man would have to make up for that lack of sparkling conversation through an excess of other attractive characteristics in order for me to be attracted to him. It's certainly more difficult for some people than it is for others to practice conversation and become good at it so unfortunately it's not on it's own a good tell for whether someone's a basement dwelling recluse with no friends or just a lovely, genuinely kind person who's …

No active or prolonged resistance could also mean she didn't want to provoke him so that the whole thing is over quicker, especially if she thought the alternative would have been more dangerous. It reminds me of a case that happened during lockdown in the uk where a long time abusive husband killed his wife and the punishment was lower becuase he was used to abusing her and didn't expect it to kill her. These things disgust me.

There's one thing I always wonder when reading about incidents like this: is there any proof she even consented to this? Edit: I don't mean to say you can, I mean because it's often used as an argument to reduce sentencing. I don't think choking is justifiable in any way. It shouldn't be done. I'm also against BDSM. The most ridiculous part is that if they were fun to be around and had an interesting hobby or two they'd have no issue finding a significantly better looking girlfriend, given how bad a lot of men are and how much effort many women put into their looks. It's the implicit threat that makes the difference. If you're in the more powerful position and clench your fist then that's a very different action to doing so when you're not in a position of power. Mind you, when a person is trying to hide what they percieve to be weakness by clenching a fist, they tend to do it in a way that is less likely to be seen. An aggressor will make sure you see them clench their fist. An adult clenching their fist in an argument with a child: not ok. A tall man clen…
