> Only thing that cures this is lifting but I can't lift 7 days/week. One of my very first OYS posts I mentioned that I lifted six days a week. Someone commented that this was not sustainable. And then u/Blarg_Risen responded to them and told them “here’s a guy putting in some work and you crabs in a bucket are trying to pull him down.” You are your own crab. Right now, lifting is your medicine. It “cures” some of your issues. It’s a healthy coping strategy. Someday it may shift to function as p…

I know that’s an option. It’s important to me not to operate in secret. That’s important to me right now. Edit: as I currently operate in secret. I’m tying too much to the act of sex.

Thanks, Blarg. I guess I should clarify that what I intended was not having a choice in the financial payout of alimony, child support, etc. But, the words that came out of me deceived me. I am trying to look at this through my own lens, yet I keep coming back to the damage I might and will cause around me. Furthermore, if I truly wanted out of the relationship at home, I believe I’d do it without another option available. Side chick’s motives are AWALT. Branch swing combined with professional a…

You’ve probably read this in a few other states, but the quicker you can internalize the reactive nature of women, the better you’ll be. I slip out of it every once in a while, but pull myself back to what I perceive as the truth. You’re just like the rest of us. Your problems aren’t that complicated. You just have a lot of them. What’s one area in addition to lifting that you can put the majority of your focus into for next time?

Consider going back through this and removing every reaction statement, competition statement, and every single instance of she, her and wife. What are you left with? This reads like you are trying to convince yourself that you are getting it.

I got a suggestion a few weeks ago to do pin presses to help with my bench. I ended up doing the same for my squat and it helped me to maintain/get back to some original numbers. You might want to try looking up on that and experimenting to see where the sticking point is and how to get past it. Some calorie dense foods can help. Oil and natural peanut butter go down easy. As for protein, if I came up short, I was chugging containers of egg whites. The taste is…something. Not bad, more of a text…

Today was the hardest, i did a 14 hour day, then dragged my ass to the gym and repped out squat day. It was a good exercise in keeping my word and actually I felt great afterwards. Good for you. Lifting became the reward.

I have no interest in going overboard to take it to the next level. I like to do a lot of different things, get pretty good (e.g., 75th percentile), then move on and master something else. 75th percentile is not mastery. That’s a C at best. Direct question: have you ever mastered anything? I’m not asking if you’re the best in the world at something. I’m asking if you’ve ever truly experienced visiting or living in the top level of a skill. I don’t want to make your life harder, and I can appreci…

I second Todoist (or any app that you can stick to). The brain is for creating and not remembering (David Allen). I would suggest one more minor level to this: consider a “physical” and a digital capture device. I used to have a mess. I would email myself tasks, write some on post its, use reminder apps, write down lists, etc. Eventually I switched to a small notebook and the Todoist app. Todoist app was my priority capture device, but if I didn’t have access to it, I used the notebook. End of t…

One significant takeaway from UC is was the marketing of content/products. Jones didn’t go incredibly deep with this, but did mention that marketing what you have is just as important as creating the content and services. This approach has helped me quite a bit. But yes, a large part of the book seemed like he was really trying to convince me on how his way is the way. I’ll start to be more explicit and direct starting today in these areas. You are right in the overthinking. I need to continue s…

I get angry when I haven’t taken action for what I want. I also get angry when the world isn’t bending to my will, despite me not attempting to bend it very hard. I have plenty of issues like this in regards to going all in. I don’t know if this relates to you, but in my situation I was also afraid of what I’d lose, losing control of myself, and losing my identity. The awful truth was that I thought about what I’d know that I’d lose instead of the unknown of what I’d gain. I also wasn’t really afraid of losing control myself. One more thing to think about: kids are not stupid, but they aren’t always rational. Depending on the age, you don’t have to necessarily explain why you’re telling them to stop or course correct.

u/redside_up take this advice seriously. The WINSIFG broken record, etc. are some keys to breaking this. And I mean being prepared to stating dozens of times, "I understand you are upset. I appreciate the time you took to respond twice. I feel as if I’m able to maintain frame with everyone except my wife. With others, if I say or do something, I’m typically fine regardless of their response or reaction. At home, I’m no longer reacting negatively inside or out when it comes to typical female reactions, but attach sex or intimacy to it and I’m outcome dependent. I’ll be sure to read the above a few more times and adjust some actions and reactions as necessary.

Thanks. The “I” statements have been fine and comfortable for me to say. This was not uncomfortable for me to say at this point due to the timing (woke up horny, but tired and had little inhibition). I’m telling you this from experience: consider putting everything you can into being less fat. This is the strongest thing you can do for yourself/your health right now. I should probably find another word for this, as I’m not trying to say that I enjoy if someone is open to being attacked or weak. Rather, I’m at my best when I’m non-judgmental and when I’m honest about myself. I notice that when someone else is open with me, it’s when I’m coming from a place of honesty and openness, with no expectation of reciprocity. That being said, I now see this as an external validation. There’s no reason I can’t continue being more open and honest with myself, however.

There’s still quite a bit of LARP’ing on my part, which I’m trying to shift out of, but to your point, I cannot expect anyone to respond to something that I’m actually not. Laying out the problem with wanting her to initiate really clarified this area for me. If I truly remove that qualifier, it’s all on me. I’m staying the course. I knew you were right when you posted this, and thinking about it actively later on in the day made me come to some more realizations. Early on, yes, I threw her in the trash. After thinking about this for a day, you hit on some larger problem regarding frame. I’m currently in a place where sex is on tap and I’ve broken through some of my own barriers. Your comment was helpful in getting me to really look back, not just at the post, but my life over the last year. I don’t know if I’m lost, but there is definitely something that’s still off with my mental models that may be deeper than what you suggested.

I’m probably being baited, but I’ll take the bait on this one. Despite writing a mini-novel above, I left out some details. The majority of the time listed above was the highest sex frequency I’ve ever had combined with my lowest libido ever. At that point, I did associate frequency with quality, but that later started to go away. I’m sure there was missed opportunity for some dominance/secretary type play here, but that really wasn’t of interest to me. I also know there’s Captain Save-a-ho all …

This was good to read. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I’ve had fear in the past of not following the MRP practices to a T. This is a good example of what can be done in an emotional crisis.

This was one of the first covert contracts in myself that I identified, when I was begging for scraps. If the baby is removed from the bed, then I’ll get more intimacy/we’ll get closer/etc. I’m not saying the baby should or shouldn’t be in the bed. I agree with the other comment - it’s up to you and you don’t have to follow the advice of anyone. But just make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons or that you at least identify if there are any ulterior motives.

Ask yourself if the baby getting out of your wife’s bed is a covert contract.

Music is one of the easiest topics to not only talk about but to get others talking about. Non-musicians are especially interested in this topic, and will probably tell you how much they wish they could play an instrument. Just don’t get into the weeds of what you do and you can probably converse about it.

Damn. I literally just started my journaling this week, and I wrote out that I’m treating this like when I use to play Zelda with my kids. Spend hours upon hours grinding and doing low level tasks. Then, go beat the boss in a short and unsatisfying battle, and realize that the actual enjoyment I had was in the grinding itself. So, I see it and I recognize it, but I also know that taking these actions have not been wasted. Ultimately, I’m using them as tools to push myself. I’m using these tools …

As I posted on some other replies to this thread, I went all in yesterday. I’ll put in my next OYS. I’ll sound like a hippy here, but that’s fine. I reread your writing from above on metaphorically pushing myself into my woman. This was my key to success. I was so pent up, angry, and frustrated at myself that I worked all day to channel that energy inside, concentrate it, and push it out until it felt like it was overtaking every room I was in. I don’t know if I’ve felt like that before. For som…

I bought the book based on your recommendation. I’m nearly through the audiobook, and then I’m going back through the Kindle version to copy and do some of the activities a second time. Some of it easy to process, other things, I believe, but I believe that those lifestyles are for someone else. Thanks for the response. It’s simple, but is very well a part of the issue. It used to be that she recoiled when I touched her. She no longer recoils, and appears ok getting close as long as I lead. I’ve worked over the past few months to make sure chores are split a little more evenly (read: wife picks up more of the slack than she may have been used to but doesn’t have to make as many huge decisions with the kids) and to make sure the kids are getting what they need for surviving and thriving. No matter what, it’s still going to verge on being overwhelming with seven people in the house.

I’m either really dense or I’m not wanting to face the facts. Are you inferring that she cheated or that I did? I’m going to have to read this over a few times. When it comes to the therapy, she’s definitely had a huge stigma about therapy and mental health her whole life, so I was seeing this in some sense as a cry for help that I drew out of her.

Thanks for pointing out. I definitely need to get myself to a place of authenticity and honesty when it comes to my decisions and time. I understand that it’s also more respectful to others if I’m honest rather than just being nice and then resenting them choosing an option that I gave them.

Thanks for replying to this. I deduced that she didn’t want me to know about because she doesn’t want to hurt my fragile ego. That being said, we picked out another toy together and will be trying that out. I have to keep all of this in check - it isn’t her, it isn’t anyone else - it’s all me. I appreciate the helpful feedback.
