I will be paying about $3000 for CS based on 66/33. Originally plan was to have kids stay in her house M-Th, and then alternating weekend starting Friday pm. Now it sounds like she wants time “away” for long weekends every other week for a long distance romance. The best I am going to get is 50/50 and reduced CS to about $2000 since I earn more than her.

Have you shared what your wife might get as part of divorce settlement if you did this with a lawyer? I would do this if you haven’t already started listing on a spreadsheet on how your assets would be spilt. It might put things into perspective on how much would diminish if lawyers are involved.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It’s never easy to be the one who decide enough is enough. For me, I thought hard about what it would be like in the future if you stay mentally for me. Financially, I figured out how much money I went towards my wife and kids and it’s actually not that much different from being married other than having to split properties, savings and retirement funds. At the end of the day, I felt I would be better off being single than being married. Take your time to figu…

That would work to delay the sale but I really want to add valve to the property by adding air conditioning and redoing the decking and then hope to sell for a higher price than it was appraised.

Start working on parenting agreement and financial separation. if you have join savings, investments and expenses. This will help level the conversation on who gets to stay in the house.

Looks like you played your cards too soon. It’s poker face from now on. As your title suggests, true colors will reveal about what’s your stbx is looking for most and you can work leverage against it and settle hopefully without a legal fight. Good luck.

I think you might have better influence on your kids if you have your own place without your stbx in the same house. I am in a different situation living together still waiting to finalize separation agreement but feel my kids will see a different side of me instead of what they have grown accustomed to on a daily basis. Just a thought.

In MA and calculations based on 67/33 based on where child’s are sleeping. I will be living 30-45 mins away depending on traffic.

I would stay in spare bedroom only on my days when I look after them after school, so I can take them to school the following morning. I don’t think it would be written in child agreement and I have the option to hand off before 9pm and return to my own apartment and not take them to school next day.

Do it if you can afford it but I would check your budget again and factor in your new living expenses. Unless you have saving put aside, you will want to build up an emergency fund, contribute to retirement fund and have spending money for when you are with your kids.

Spend your time and energy to plan on separating financially - It will come down to this. Stay if you have to to buy time to get your finances organized and do whatever else you have to before filing. There is no law against how you treat your joint savings and investment before you file.

How sure are you that there are hidden cameras? The small discrete spy cameras need to be hooked up to permanent power source. You need skills to hide these cameras that can be powered by line voltage from light fixtures or smoke detectors I would imagine. The consumer grade cameras are larger and hard to conceal.

Care to explain the repercussion? I hear a lot about stbxw dating before finalizing divorce so what’s the issue. Not encouraging the behavior, just trying to understand the issue.

Not trying to be vindictive and thinking more about negotiation leverage. Half of me think I should have just threw her out of the house and bring shame to her immediately and bring pressure for her to settle for 50/50 or less.

I can see the benefit of not bring up ‘affair’ to help negations but I want clarify your attorney’s advice. You kept the affair to yourself and never brought that up to her at anytime nor mentioned that’s the reason for divorce until having finalized the separation agreement. Is that what happened? I am liking this idea. If you can confirm that would be great.

I don’t think she will put up a fight. Has anyone tried mediation? A win for me would be to separate on good terms, take care of the kids and have enough money to retire modestly in 15-years. Anything I can do protect my finances now to prep for this split?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
