When did you realize what you do will never be enough?Same. I finally stood up and told her she was treating me like a housemate and not her husband after helping her achieve all her dreams and never saying “no” to her. She immediately started to make secret plans to leave. She NEVER truly knew what love was. She was playing house. | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/05/25 06:33 AM
The Urge to Contact her for HER Mental HealthThank you. I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my book of a post. I know why I fell for her. I was abused as a kid myself and have always treated others the way I WISH I had been treated. My self worth ALWAYS depended on how others viewed me. My first wife was EXACTLY who I needed in my life…then…she died in my arms. My second wife stepped in pretty fast after my first wife died. She had just divorced and accused HIM of horrific abuses so…I fell for it. The protector in me jumped in t… | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/04/25 08:12 PM
Why did you get married in the first place?Because I believed in the significance and meaning behind marriage. I made promises I always honored and upheld. With my first wife, she upheld those promises and reciprocated until her death. With my second wife, she broke those promises, stabbed me in the back, lied, and tried to destroy me. If I could find another lady like my first wife, I would do it all over again. But I’ll never put myself in a situation where I end up with a selfish person like my second wife again! The sad part is, I do… | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/03/25 02:52 AM
Communication is everything…Not sure why ANYONE would downvote your feelings. I’m sorry this happened to you as well. It just the senselessness of it all when you’re the last to know. 😩 | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/01/25 06:27 AM

How long did it take you to get over a divorce?Yea. I’m 51. A walkaway wife at my age makes me feel like my life is over. All those memories…for what?! It feels like such a waste. When love is one sided and they don’t feel true commitment, it’s devastating. I was shattered. Almost 3 years later she my brain is STILL trying to understand all the what? Why? How? Holidays especially suck. All those lost traditions. I wish more people could just learn how to communicate! That’s it! Just communicate. Just say, “Hey, can we talk…this (insert thing… | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/10/24 07:26 PM

Wife is now the breadwinner and wants a divorceWhen you work in the medical field you see death daily. You know EXACTLY how short and fragile life is. It’s like having a “midlife” crisis…ALL the time. This causes a lot of people in the field to think they are mission out on their REAL life. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/10/24 12:35 AM

Why are men often overlooked as victims of domestic abuse?Your experiences sound a lot like mine. When I finally said something about the way I was being treated, she left me without a word. It was the first time in 15 years I told her she was hurting me. Then she made false allegations and destroyed my mind. I can’t begin to tell you how painful it was. I almost checked out about 3 times. This needs to stop. Zero evidence and I was still presumed guilty. | /r/MensRights | 16/09/24 12:01 PM
How much did you spend on your divorce?Well. The good news is, I was not charged because the judge could tell there were holes in her story. However, he didn’t make her pay back my legal expenses to defend against the lie so…after $180K spent…it was basically for nothing. She remained protected. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/09/24 01:52 AM
How much did you spend on your divorce? No fault state her too. So she invented “domestic violence” charges, as I was told about 80% of the women in CA do, during the divorce. Basically, if THAT claim is made, even without a shred of evidence, a few tears on the stand is all it takes. A man is guilty UNTIL proven innocent. It’s such a corrupt process. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/09/24 01:49 AM
How much did you spend on your divorce?Of course not. When there’s no proof, California almost ALWAYS sides with the female. It’s a corrupt and criminal system. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/09/24 01:43 AM
How much did you spend on your divorce?$180K.(United Ststes) Mainly because her attorney must have told her to make false allegations against me that I had to defend myself against. I refer to that statement as “the most expensive lie she ever told.” It was devastating on so many levels. I NEVER thought she was the type who would commit perjury. But…live and learn! I had NO IDEA who she was at the end. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/09/24 01:40 AM
How is it fair that your wife’s financial irresponsibility becomes your burden, but your financial responsibility becomes her entitlement?I paid for mine to get her masters AND her doctorate and sent her to both Harvard and London to study. That was an investment in OUR futures. She took it ALL when she left. And all she had to do was make a false claim of domestic violence and, with ZERO proof of ANYTHING…she walked away with no worries. I get you. | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/24 11:17 AM
Why do you think (or from experience) that 2nd marriages have such a high divorce rate?Because, one of the spouses decided to throw out communication, commitment, vows, etc…and wants a do-over. Once that person feels like a marriage is not a sacred or permanent thing, it’s much EASIER to jump out of the next one. In addition, the person who was most hurt by the divorce will then lack trust and hunt for “red flags” even if they aren’t there. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/24 08:09 AM
Was marriage worth it?You sound EXACTLY like me…but I’m still financially destroyed and not remarried. Knowing she never KNEW how to love me and had no “bond” really depresses me. Realizing she thought we were just playing house is devastating. It was so wonderful…such a dream…everything I always craved…until…GONE! 15 years for nothing. I’m glad to hear you’ve survived it. I’m still trying. | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/08/24 07:56 PM
Who's my emergency contact now?!?You sound like me. North Carolina to California for HER career. Then, she leaves me after 15 years due to the pressure of her new job, life, etc. Fun times!!! | 2 | It WILL get better gentleman. I was where you are now…Thank you. Yes. She never took responsibility for anything. She didn’t say “sorry” once in 15 years. Then she had her surgery and, due to COVID, refused to go get her levels checked. We totally fell apart! She said some bizarre things. Then paranoia. It got BAD! Then she left. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/06/24 10:47 PM

But this is a woman who dated a man for two months, found out her had terminal cancer, and held him in her arms as his heart stopped beating. Her love and compassion is genuine. Thanks for your concerns, but my path is clear. She had MUCH more to lose than me in a marriage. I wonder how many men just look for red flags constantly and chase away the perfect woman. | 1 | It WILL get better gentleman. I was where you are now…Yes. We CAN be happy on our own. That’s not the issue. The issue is that it’s total BS to say a “good” woman can’t facilitate faster healing. I’m not doing the “stoic” thing. I know who I am and what I want and can not be shamed. | 2 | It WILL get better gentleman. I was where you are now…I started losing BEFORE the divorce. I sacrificed for her (our) futures and helped her through a masters degree and her doctorate. Sold my house and land to move for her…then things were stolen and secretly moved. When she vanished, she left while I was out of town and literally emptied the place. Then it cost me roughly $180K to defend against lies in court. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/06/24 07:48 AM |

LonelinessThree miserable years for me. And I can’t stand the whole “you gotta love yourself” first crap everyone dishes out. I loved myself before marriage…during marriage…and after marriage. So, your kid is lucky to have you! You should be proud. It speaks volumes about you and makes it easy to understand your ex really lost who you were. | 5 | For those who survived a bitter divorce and are a few years past it all...I have no kids. 15 year marriage ended with no warnings as she had Quiet BPD. Never spoke again. She accused me of many false things and then vanished into that reality. I guess she rewrote our 15 magical years of experiences as garbage. I guess they delete it. I can’t do that because I lived who she WAS and miss THAT person. I want her back but that will NEVER happen in real life. I’m aware of that. | 19 | The light switch affect..Oh yea. Where to begin. A summary… We met. She instantly loved EVERYTHING I loved. We seemed to be a perfect match. We bonded on almost every level. The sex was INSANE. She was willing to try anything, do anything, and often. Sex slowed down about year 4 when I helped her go back to college. She got her Masters degree. | 15 | Watching your wife go from your partner to your adversary is one of the most insane things I can imagine2 years for me too and my story is pretty much the same as yours. No fighting. No complaints. No discussion. Cuddling and watching movies the night before. Moved out while I was gone for the day. Came home to chaos. My 12 year old cat stolen. Absolute hell. It’s pretty cruel the way we are abandoned with no warning. It’s selfish. It’s childish. It’s not humane. It was like being an unwanted pet that was just set free. It will never make sense. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/02/24 06:55 AM
Ruminating, almost non-stopI was with mine for 15 years. She made me feel we shared every love in common. Then COVID. Then she got paranoid and began acting like a stranger. Watching her pull away was horrific. The way she looked at me was with such disgust and hate. It was as if the person I love was possessed or had died. I’ve never experienced ANYTHING more painful in my life. Still hurts 2 years later. I still don’t understand. | 1 | Why aren’t we even given a chance?I suppose you didn’t have 8 family members and friends die? Or didn’t live in an apartment facing a hospital that pulled up refrigerator trucks and could sit on the balcony watching them carry body bags to the trucks. | 8 | Broken and confusedMine did much as yours did. No real communication. No complaints. No requests. She always said she was happy. We NEVER had fights. 15 years wasted due to her lack of communication. She left and lied to make herself seem the victim. She’s no longer the person I knew. | 1 | Has anyone here married a medical doctor (or other highly educated person) and had their marriage suffer from ego?I created a monster! I helped mine through her masters degree and then her doctorate. Once she got her doctorate she became insufferable and my family and friends noticed a huge change. But her PTSD and COVID destroyed that. Then her expressed paranoia and inability to communicate finished us off. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/01/24 08:53 AM

Fears that everyone will eventually let her down or betray her. The sad part is, I wanted to protect her from ever feeling that way again. I would have never betrayed her. I would have never hurt her. I would have addressed any fear or concern she ever had. The problem is, during the stress of COVID, she stopped communicating and began hiding her feelings. She broke our marriage down by stopping all communic… | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 06:10 PM |
Does wife making more than husband contribute to relationship issues?I feel like “communication” is the key element of love. If communication breaks down, that’s the end of love. Communication is the MOST important factor. For almost 15 years my wife and I communicated about everything. When communication broke down, only because SHE refused to be truthful about her feelings, that killed our marriage. She began spying on me and making false assumptions. She began assuming the worst of me about EVERYTHING. All she had to do was ASK or COMMUNICATE and I could have … | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 06:04 PM
Does wife making more than husband contribute to relationship issues? Not true. That’s not how I operate. You’re making a finite statement about ALL people and I’m ONE of those people! I believe in love without money. I don’t care how much someone makes. I am the exception to your rule. I’ve seen others. I met a homeless couple who literally (no joke) sleep in a cardboard box on the street in downtown Los Angeles. They became homeless during the pandemic and love each other dearly. It does exist. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 05:00 PM
Does wife making more than husband contribute to relationship issues? It’s sad that you feel that way. Because love to me has always been defined as an unbreakable bond that should weather all storms. I’ve never cared about money. I’ve never cared about things. I have always believed in mutual respect and romance. The problem is, I thought SHE felt the same way; she didn’t. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 04:56 PM
Does wife making more than husband contribute to relationship issues?Sadly. No. She caused a HUGE amount of damage to me due to her false accusations so she could be viewed as the “victim” in this case. Because she is attractive with a great career, many of my so-called friends who would rather mail her rather than continue having me as a friend, abandoned me to get in line. It’s been a nightmare. I’m still struggling to find my place in the world as she jets around the world having a blast. Fun times. But, thank you for the sentiment. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/23 02:46 AM

Does wife making more than husband contribute to relationship issues?I made much more than my wife in the film industry while she was an elementary school teacher. I gave her a free, paid-off home, two acres of land, and the ability to go back to school. I helped her through her Masters degree AND her doctoral degree. She was offered an amazing position with a company across the country. We moved from North Carolina to Los Angeles, CA. She began designing educational video games. She picked up, realized it was a butt dial, let the call run for about 15 minutes, and then called the cops and claimed he had threaten her life and harassed her. The phone records proved the call. However, since they don’t record audio it was her word against his. Over $50K in legal fees for the poor guy later, the case was dropped. DELETE IT… | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/12/23 05:08 AM
This is gonna be harder than I thoughtI’m still in LA. And no, I can’t build it up again. I can’t explain without identifying myself so…I won’t. All I will say is that there were only TWO people who would/could hire me to do what I did I the entire STATE and she burned those bridges and I was replaced. These are sort of lifetime positions once you have them so…unless I moved back and someone dies…not much of a chance. They’ve moved on without me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/12/23 06:19 PM

This is gonna be harder than I thoughtWhen they accuse you of domestic violence, even with NO proof, that cuts off any possibility of palimony. | 5 | This is gonna be harder than I thoughtYup. It’s rough. We BOTH had six-figure salaries before I gave up my career for her dreams and then she got sick. She STILL has an amazing career, but she damaged mine in unspeakable ways just so she would look like a “victim” and not a “villain.” Funny how that works. Now she gets all the support, has an amazing job, and she’s all but destroyed my connections and career with lies. Life can suck. Sometime the bad person wins. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/12/23 11:00 AM

When The Marriage Wasn’t Bad and You Can’t Hate…People keep telling me I am wrong on here. However, I’ve had THREE psychologists who have told me I need to “hate her” to heal. That it’s not healthy I still care about her after she destroyed my life, my career, my friendships, and had me falsely arrested. People WANT me to “hate” because they say I’m truly sick if I don’t. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/12/23 06:46 AM
When The Marriage Wasn’t Bad and You Can’t Hate…Well,I’m mourning more than a person. She destroyed my career. Stole my money. Ruined my friendships. | 2 | When The Marriage Wasn’t Bad and You Can’t Hate…Yea. I HATE the court system. It was disgusting the way I was treated. | 1 | When The Marriage Wasn’t Bad and You Can’t Hate…Thank you. It sounds like we are much the same. If I could turn back the clock and just be ALLOWED to know what was making her unhappy, I would. | 1 | When The Marriage Wasn’t Bad and You Can’t Hate…Who knows WHAT she felt. She had cPTSD and quiet BPD. All documented due to childhood abuse. | 2 | When The Marriage Wasn’t Bad and You Can’t Hate…Thank you. Yes, I lost ALL my friends and even my career. She claimed “abuse” and, in this society, everyone BELIEVES a woman’s claims with absolutely no basis in fact or proof. My court hearing should have been a mistrial but I couldn’t afford to have another. It was disgusting. I was NEVER abusive and don’t even have that sort of capability in me. | 2 | My Desk and ChairI feel much the same way. We had 15 years of sharing adventures and more in-jokes than I care to think about. If I look at another person and say “Lobster Claw,” they won’t burst into knowing laughter. I don’t understand how it was EASIER to toss away 15 years of our lives and then ERASE me as if I was an evil bastard the whole time. It’s nuts. It’s sick. She’s just going to be MORE broken! | 2 | My Desk and ChairListen, I completely understand what you are conveying and I’m sorry so many other men on here feel the need to constantly criticize other men for their feelings, actions, etc. This is all a very personal experience and you should have the right to vent your feelings without being questioned or judged by people who are SUPPOSED to be part of your support network. | 3 | Why Women are Walking AwayMy ex had a condition called “silent BPD.” It causes the person to feel persecuted, neglected, or abandoned. It stems from her parents sexually abusing her. It is sort of akin to a “persecution complex.” In 15 years we LITERALLY never had an argument. Nobody ever believes that because of their own experience, but it’s true. | 14 | Why Women are Walking AwayHello. Nice. I used to live in both the City of Orange and Anaheim. Well, from the minimal amount of research I’ve done with dating apps the entitlement is pretty extreme. It’s amazing how many female profiles immediately mention money, home ownership, etc…to be a must or it’s an instant dealbreaker. | 33 | Why Women are Walking AwayThank you. And yet we still live in a society where men are considered “juvenile” and women are considered “more mature.” That MAY have been the case at times in the past, but it’s obvious today that men are generally more dedicated to saving a marriage than most women. | 16 | Why Women are Walking AwayExactly. I worked hard for OUR futures. I helped her get her Master’s degree for OUR futures. I then helped her get her Doctorate for OUR futures. I sold my paid-off home and moved across the country, abandoning my successful career, for OUR futures. She left and now another man gets ALL the benefit of my years of hard work and commitment. What a lucky guy! A hot lady WITH a doctorate and a 6-figure career. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/23 08:57 AM
Why Women are Walking AwayAlso, women tend to have a late mid-life crisis. When a man does, he’s made fun of if he buys a car, picks up a new hobby, or starts dying his hair. When a woman does, she’s usually seeking other options than her husband/boyfriend and acts like a teenager again. It’s amazing how men are ALWAYS called the “immature” ones. LOL. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/23 08:53 AM
Why Women are Walking AwayRight. The double standard is amazing. My ex didn’t even like me having WORK lunches with my female boss in the film industry. Yet, I was supposed to be okay with her having non-work lunches with random male coworkers all the time. Double standards are ridiculous. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/23 08:48 AM
What does online dating look like for you?I have heard this before. And so many women complain about abusive and horrific men BECAUSE they go for the top 20% who have so many options, they can use, abuse, and move on. Meanwhile, the other 80% who would most likely treat them with more kindness and respect…are left in the dust. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/23 08:46 AM
Why Women are Walking AwayAnd not ALL women. There are wonderful women out there with profiles that don’t demand men with 6-figures…or who have strict height requirements…or who own mansions. Focus on REAL women who want REAL relationships. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/23 08:43 AM
Why Women are Walking AwayNope. LOL. I am merely stating that everything starts with action. As long as we continue to accept this behavior, it WILL continue. It needs to be called out. Social media is FULL of anti-male rhetoric. But guys are afraid to call out the OPPOSITE of “misogyny” which is “misandry.” Until there are also posts, videos, books, commentaries…about how unhealthy these expectations are of MEN only…nothing happens. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/23 08:42 AM
| 38 | Why Women are Walking AwayThank you. I appreciate your compliment. I know. The words “narcissist” and “misogynist” are labels applied to men for ANY reason. It’s a way to instantly devalue and demonize and takes 100% of the responsibility off her. There is absolutely no accountability or self introspection. Unhappy? Blame someone else. Move on. | 1 | What does online dating look like for you?I had a friend put this into a good analogy… Dating used to be like ordering from a small menu. Now, dating is like an all-you-can-eat buffet! The problem with an all-you-can-eat buffet is that there’s so many choices, you’re always afraid you filled up your plate with something that won’t be as good as something down the line. So, there’s always a fear there MUST be something better even if you enjoy what you have. | 27 | Hollywood is lying to us about female victimhoodI’ve worked in film most of my life and it frustrates me how we set expectations that don’t make sense. For instance, when characters who would make little money live in houses that don’t make sense. Like a New York City school teacher in a film living in a high-rise apartment in Manhattan. Yea! Right!
