Beer was a struggle for me too Sir. Several bottles and/or big cans every day. Might I suggest something? Zero alcohol beer It's a lot better than it used to be and has done the trick for me. Not had 'proper' beer since February. The refuse collector who picks up my recycling still sees lots of empty cans and bottles, but they're zero alcohol ones. He must think I'm a right dickhead

I completely echo this, pretty much word for word my experience. I don't seem to get tough days anymore. Have I moved through all the stages of grieving? Fuck knows... I'll take it anyway, whatever it is. When I was having bad days, and struggling (when a fly could knock you over), I would always find something to read on this sub that would always bring me right out of it. Whether it be a post about such and such, or the replies full of wisdom and sound advice. I'd get some absolute gold each a…

First of all, who gives a flying fuck about money? You can bet your arse that your children sure don't. All they care about is having YOU. I was absolutely terrified of becoming a single dad when everything kicked off, but the one single thing that took me the most by surprise in a positive way when my ex and I separated is this... I really, really love being a single dad. Got 50/50. I have my daughter three days in the week and my ex four, then the next week I have four and her three. When I do…

She doesn't really give a fuck about where the dish soap lives anymore than you do. She's forcing herself to get annoyed at your presence in her life, which is a precursor to something she wants to do about you, which is to remove you. She's checking out. I'd suggest you do the same and walk away. It'll sting a bit, of course it will, but it'll be well worth it when the dust clears, you find your mojo and grind away to becoming a better version of you. That won't happen if you stay in this situa…

When it first happens, the negatives heavily outweigh any positives. Then one day, after enough time has passed, the positives heavily outweigh any negatives. Getting divorced is brutal, but being divorced is effing awesome,

Amen to this. Why are they like that? After the 'we need to separate' talk, I was totally okay with it as the marriage had been a massive bag of shite for a while and moved to the spare room until I could move out. I only needed three months to get the required funds together to be able to do it, working extra shifts etc. She waited a week before downloading tinder. On the nights I wasn't working, she'd go round to 'stay at a friend's' while I was at home looking after our four year old, fair en…

This is merely the 'bargaining' phase of the grieving process, nothing more. As bad and as unshakable as it feels right now, it will pass. Like me, you'll end up feeling stupid for feeling this way and say to yourself 'WTF was all that about?'. It's coming brother, just hang in there and keep chopping through that bramble.

Rock bottom isn't as bad as it feels and appears. One advantage of it is as Yazz, of Plastic Population fame so eloquently put it - 'the only way is up'. All of this wanting to keep a close relationship with you is a combination of keeping an option open, and keeping you as a handy resource. She doesn't actually give a fuck about you and hasn't for a while. Gym. Diet. No booze. Let yourself feel the emotions as they come - cry like Gazza if you need to. There is another side at the end of this, …

This is perfectly normal from them. It's simply using whatever angle they can, no matter how weak, to justify and rationalise whatever course of action it is that they're taking. Accountability in females is a very rare thing, as we all know too well.

I'm sorry,, I don't have a recipe for this. It just faded away naturally. I think the person I met eventually after my initial wounded phase being a much better, softer person (with an added bonus of having the most incredible chesticles I've ever had my hands on) might've had a little to do with it.
/r/Divorce_Men07/06/26 03:16 PM

It'll fade when you truly allow it to. Part of you still holds a mental and emotional attachment. I was jerking off to my ex occasionally for a couple of months after seperation, which eventually faded to never. I wouldn't fuck her if she was the last woman on earth now.

I've read your post, your replies to others and I've come across some of your other posts too. Mate, you were in a one sided relationship with a woman who didn't respect you. You pedestalised her, moved mountains to make her happy, ran about like R2fuckingD2 for her, just for a kind word, a kind smile, which you have allowed to act as a gauge on your self worth. This is exactly part of the problem mate, she smelt desperation and a lack of seeing to your own mission- women tell us that men treati…

I can't disagree with a single thing you've said there. I'm actually jealous that you've come to this conclusion so young. It took two marriages and suffering a parade of assorted psychopaths for me to reach the same conclusions. Better late than never. Marriage is for the birds.

The way I got my head around this kind of change is this... When just me and my daughter do things of this nature, I consider that 'as a family'- because it is. There doesn't have to be a woman in the equation. I can only speak for myself and how I approach things from my own post seperation/divorce mentality that I've developed, but I actually prefer it this way. All activities go smoothly with no drama or aggravation- it's lovely! Being a single pop is the bomb.

I wouldnt even bang her! And that's saying something because she was easy. Turns out that was the problem later on. Nevermind, she can bang who she likes now, and whatever poor sod is on the other end, has my sympathy. I also wouldnt have my daughter, so tough one.

You sound quite despondent that your luck on there isn't as fruitful as you'd like. Here's the secret... You shouldn't care that your luck isn't as fruitful as you'd like... And if you genuinely reach that state, you'll be beating them off with a shitty stick. I cant explain it, but it is the case.

I think I lasted a week lurking on that gynocentric echo bubble looking for answers. Then I found this place. For blokes, this sub is second to none. I'm largely okay now with my own trials and tribulations, but I dip in now again because I feel an attachment to this place and have nothing but a good opinion of it. Okay, what youve just written there mirrors my exact situation pretty much to the letter. I can only echo DarthDad25 here. Take your eye off whatever she's doing/not doing, and lock your gaze firmly on the ball beneath your feet... she ain't on your team anymore. First six months I was obsessed with how unarsed she seemed to be, which faded away until I became unarsed myself. I've had a new lady for just over a year who is the antithesis of my ex, not a red flag shown in all that time and it's the best relationship I've ever been in. Amen to this. The happiest times in my life where I've felt maximum peace, contentment, being sure of myself, is after I've gotten over the few big breakups in my life. Then it all falls to shit as I lose myself again with the next leech. Hit my half century last year and I can see it, finally; make your partner part of your life rather than allow her to make you make her the focal point of it.
/r/Divorce_Men09/05/26 11:54 PM

This is absolutely spot on mate. Divorce/breakups hit men so much harder (or at least that's how it appears) while they seem to dust themselves off immediately and embark upon their little shot doses of validation (we all know they have a much easier time of it when it comes to getting laid). But proper recovery? We dominate that one. Our recovery is a lot more long winded and full of despair, but I firmly believe we come out of it in much better shape mentally and emotionally. To all the lads f…

Ah! The female ego. They love to think of us as broken shells without them, even if they would rather drown in a lake of their own piss than be with us again. When you display or project that you're doing perfectly well without them, their fragile ego shatters and they panic. They panic because as a lot of posters here have already expressed, you are the plan B. And if that looks to slip away, they throw you crumbs to make you think you should have hope, because missus still has to keep that opt…

It's baffling what a lot of women deem as 'abuse' isn't it? I was 'abusive' because I had a five guys in town, by myself, on a solo trip to buy shoes. She really lost her shit over that... growled and snarled and everything. What a bastard I am eh?

Sounds about right. It was the same for me timescale wise. Six months seems to be on average, the first checkpoint where everything starts to fuse back together in the old brain box. Some poor women live with absolute monsters, there's no doubt about that- men who abuse physically and mentally their partners. Must be hell to live with, especially with poor children witnessing it. But that's a minority of men. With our size weight and power difference, we could all be absolute bastards to them, but we're not. I firmly believe most men are calm, rational, decent individuals who just want to live life with as little stress and drama as possible. Men are fucking awesome. If wome…

You know the answer to this mate. They make themselves hate you, like a boxer before a match stokes themselves up with it. But the difference is, they have to make you the villain, the boogeyman, the enemy- just so it quietens the internal noise that tells them what a piece of shit they really are. And that's something a huge amount of women seem to have running through their DNA.

The only way I could've 'saved' the marriage and still be in a relationship with her, was to become a footstool who would cave to every single demand and agree with every word she said. Bollocks to that! I tried pleasing her and it only took me so far. She'd expect a bit more, then a bit more, then a bit more, until I didn't recognise myself. So let's say 50% my fault, for being a dignified, proud individual who decided not to give up one more inch of my identity, values and my own little missio…

I can chime in on this one. I'm a 50/50 dad. A middle aged, half grey-haired old fucker with a five year old girl for half the week. I was not so much scared, but apprehensive shall we say. Eighteen months in and it's the best thing on earth. I love my life and the time with her.

Blimey!! You were in a marriage with one of the biggest arseholes possible, and that takes some doing. Visualise the Rocky theme tune (or 'Gonna Fly Now' by Bruno Conti if you want to be posh) and stand the fuck up and give this poisonous little cunt not one single inch more. Excuse my language, but I'm really wound up reading through all that, my blood is boiling for you. Please don't tolerate this kind of thing ever again.

It's just grieving mate, that's all. An emotional grenade embeds it's accompanying shrapnel all over you- it's hard to think straight and stable for quite some time, and the timescale for recovery is different for every single bloke on Earth. But recover you most surely will. Only time does this. Those that can't let go simply dont really want to.

With what you just said there, youre already looking at things with some modicum of positivity, this is the way. The last decades of an increasingly feminised society has broken traditional roles right down. Men have become more feminised because indoctrination in schools, colleges, media has taught men that we're all potentially evil rapists and murderers just because of our testosterone. The sight of me taking any form of unsanctioned relaxation- nodding off to the telly of an evening would result in a cushion launched at my head. My wanting to work the odd weekend for the unsocial hours enhancements I get. That seemed to do her head in. Me getting sick with the flu once (and I do mean the proper flu) meant she'd be the only one folding the laundry that dried, so i had to get out of bed to do at least 50 percent of it. Protesting at the idea of having to spend time 'as a couple'…

I looked her up too and she's definitely a 6 (if marked out of a 100)

Sounds to me that this woman uses men as a resource and looks for the back door the moment she gets any inkling that's she's no longer the focal point of his existence. (At least she kind of admits it). Sounds a lot like my ex.
/r/Divorce_Men01/04/26 08:47 PM

This is actually a very good idea. We're men, we routinely rub one out anyway, so may as well.

My advice? Be petty! My ex did exactly the same, until I started giving her bills of my own to cover 50% of every little thing (I didn't give a shit before, but her constant demands and pettiness became too much for my pride to let go... I'm talking £0.75 on a school raffle ticket, that sort of bollocks). Then she stopped. Now i chip in only on the very bare essentials.

The agreement says what it says, and there's fuck all she can do about it. She's shitting herself because the day is approaching soon. Stick to your guns, she doesn't have a leg to stand on.
/r/Divorce_Men26/03/26 03:43 PM
2

Oh hell yeah, this!!! I'd be enjoying some rare peace, until I'd see her car pulling in outside to cue thoughts along the lines of 'aw, bollocks! What avalanche of dogshit is about to come my way?'
/r/Divorce_Men24/03/26 07:16 AM

I find quests for poontang become significantly decrease in importance as I'm getting older, doubly so as I have a little girl. It's all about her. Nothing wrong with being and staying single, no need to shack up just for the sake of it. Your peace and your sanity has to come second, after your kids ( you dont have peace and sanity at times with kids, but that's the acceptable kind of chaos).

I have one daughter, she's five now, but when she was born, I was exactly the age you are now. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, find that inner core of who you really are and nurture it. You can be a dad if you really want to be. First thing to do is accept that that leech is in your rear view mirror and dont look back. She took you for a cunt mate.

So much for this big bad evil 'patriarchy' I'm told that poor female angels are forced to live under, which is akin to The Handmaid's Tale the way they carry on. While I'm at it, wheres all this 'white male privilege' I'm also told gives me an unfair advantage over others in every single aspect of this industrial society?

I could've written this one word for word. Sterile and to the point is all we give each other and that's fine by me.
/r/Divorce_Men20/03/26 01:28 AM

My line is "we were just two different sized cogs with different sized teeth". It's a bit embarrassing for me to let it be known that she hoovered up six different prongs in the space of two weeks to folk I barely know, and then treated me even more like a butler after my regretful pick me dance.
/r/Divorce_Men20/03/26 01:24 AM

Par for the course. She nearly kills her own children after getting behind the wheel all shitfaced, but you have to be the villain of the piece, complete with cloak, top hat and twirly moustache and she will do what she can to make it that way. It's what these characters do.

"It’s also a trauma response to “monkey branch”/get back out there asap. It’s a scorch earth tactic to completely dismantle and detach from the person they were in the marriage." I never looked at it like that. Makes a lot of sense.

You took her by surprise there, she wasn't expecting that. She thought you'd be there forever waiting like a loyal puppy while she went and did the 'best life' glow-up bollocks. Your world will be a million times better when you've worked through the stages of grief, you're not gonna be sore like this forever.

Good words, great post. I think of it like selling an old car/motorcycle. Let someone else enjoy it while you've upgraded to a better model, because upgrade you most surely will. Believe in yourselves brothers. As you've all no doubt read on here a billion times- nobody is coming to save you. We can save ourselves. We get out of the rest of our lives what WE put in. She's gone brothers, and as the OP says, it's no bad thing. Tomorrow belongs to you.

For me, the six month mark, definitely a checkpoint. Things of the nature you described was fading away. I'm now another eight months on from that, I really do feel okay. The pain, animosity towards her, resentment, sense of injustice of it all- it's all shrunk to become a tiny thing that doesn't bother me one bit. I've come a long way from not having a single wink of sleep for about a fortnight.
/r/Divorce_Men05/03/26 05:43 PM

I was unable to sleep for about two months when it all first hit- it passed though. Apart from a few more grey hairs that might've popped out anyway, my health (especially mental) has greatly improved.

For me, it all began to fade at the six month mark. Every time I see her each week (50/50 parenting), I feel less and less each time. She's now just some foreign Spanish bird i had a kid with. Good luck to her whatever she's doing.

I can't believe what I read on here sometimes. My heart goes out to them, especially those in the no fault States with cheating wives. The injustice is unreal! Edit:- yeah, I know we legalised no fault just a few years ago, but 50-60% of your earnings handed over to your ex for the rest of your life, along with one of your bollocks seems to be the done thing stateside.

The grief, the despair, the rumination, the melancholy. After time does what time does best, which is letting these things fade away after the acceptance stage of grieving has kicked in- what we're left with is the good times rolling. Rejoice!

She waited until you pulled into your street before she dramatically drove off? Looks like youre living in her head rent free and she's using whatever power she has to fuck you over in any way. A twenty minute delay from being in traffic isnt that bad and she knows it.

You should consider that she's only posting shite like that in order for your eyes to see it. If she had any sense or honour, she wouldnt. If I'm wrong, it might be an idea to delete/unfriend her from all your SM anyway. Sorry pal, this is fucked up, but you will eventually be alright.

Getting divorced is terrible, but being divorced is fucking awesome.

I'm not arguing with anything you said up there, of course it's the case, and quite an adjustment. My experience is this... I got 50/50, with a rigid, never changing pattern. It's been just over a year of this, and I've found that the heart and mind adapts. Now it's the new normal, with my own routine worked out and gotten used to. Now living the way I used to seems odd when I think back to it. I'd much rather have things the way they are now.

I did all the things in that list apart from host the dinner parties (because I'd rather hack off my scrotum with a rusty butter knife) but where I obviously went wrong was in not feeding the squirrel. Ah, the 'fuck you momentum'. That was quite handy and useful and gave me a good kick up the arse to get a few things done that I otherwise wouldn't, due to my lazy, procrastinating nature. Since I calmed right down, I've become lazy again 😂

Everyone is different, so it's hard to put a timescale on it. Rest assured, it will fade at some point. I remember burning with it all day, every day, from the moment I'd wake up to the moment I would go to bed. Not good for you at all, even if it is better than the initial wounded bit. It absolutely does fade. Still have little flashes of it occasionally, but live with inner peace about 98% of the time. First off, I never said it was acceptable. Secondly, I don't expect for therapy to 'fix' anything (if you read back, I did emphasise that i thought his wife should get the help rather than him).Sometimes these things can do good, sometimes they don't. I'm gonna sign off from this convo because it's too much like hard work. Now go off and count some toothpicks Sheldon.

I agree, but The OP is a lot closer to the situation than we are, and if he feels there could be a way to have a chance to salvage things, it could be something to look at. I'd personally get rid.

My apologies, I didn't realise your shit didn't stink going by your demeanour. Here it is then. The OP's wife treats him in a disgusting, inappropriate manner right? So I said either get out of Dodge, suggest counselling for her seeing as she has some kind of anger management issue and should deal with it. I suggested he could go too (if he deemed it useful, as I said up there) so he could give his side of the equation: that is if he wants to save his marriage. I'd personally wave this woman goo…

That's abusive as fuck mate, you cant have that. Have a serious talk about this, suggest counselling (for you both if you think useful, but I'm thinking just for her) or GTFO of there. You cant be having this mate, it's so many levels of wrong.

Well fookin' rid. It wasn't so much her I was scared of losing- the marriage was crap and the only time I felt any peace and happiness was when she wasn't in the house. The thing I was 'scared' of, was the potential loss of the family unit and not waking up in the same gaff as my daughter every day. Well, just me and my girl is 'family unit' enough. And waking up in the new gaff I have with her for half the week is well better than living under the yoke of my cloven hoofed horned ex every day. O…

My exact attitude too. It's great, every second of it. Back then, I was terrified of what was to come, like I was going the walk out to 'The Cursed Earth' outside of Mega City One from Judge Dredd. Dunno what the fook I was so worried about.
/r/Divorce_Men28/01/26 09:03 AM

Don't underestimate how resilient and adaptable children are. Things may not be perfect, but there's no way of achieving that anyway. They'll be just fine. I suspect you may be overthinking things a little Sir.
/r/Divorce_Men28/01/26 06:54 AM

I'm really not keen on my ex. I don't hate her, although I did spend some time doing so, I no longer do. This doesn't mean I'll go out of my way to be a fly in her ointment. I let her get on with things and parent our little girl her end when its her turn, her way. At first, she was the control freak one, sticking her beak in trying to manipulate me like an orchestra conductor. She's knocked that off now. My daughter comes first. And I completely understand the importance of respecting the other…
/r/Divorce_Men28/01/26 05:22 AM
6

Well yeah, they do live in two different worlds. You should accept that. I've been 50/50 for over a year, all you can do is concentrate on when you clock in. When my little girl is handed over, I kind of train my brain to think she's in suspended animation for half the week. I don't worry about her being with the ex at all that way. She may have been a lying, cheating, non-accountability taking bossy narcotwat to me, but I know she's a good mum.

Haha, this! This x1000. You've just perfectly described my cloven horned creep of an ex. It's completely beyond me why a lot of women seem to be wired up this way. I was apparently 'abusive' and 'treated her like shit'. From my perspective though, I was reactive to her domineering, bullying, condescending ways. My voice wouldn't raise unless hers did first, but for some reason, she was unable to hear it.
/r/Divorce_Men23/01/26 04:41 AM

The fact that you've reached out to this sub, and that you've written what you've written, means you know what you need to do. I say do it Sir, and take the rollercoaster of emotions that follow. That rollercoaster stops, and for you, I think it'd stop sooner than you think. Then your new life will start.

Ouch! That's a rough thing to come across. Reminds me of the time I saw her whataspp (yeah, i snooped) writing poetic lines to her new emotional support tampon that she found on Tinder, about two weeks after the 'I think we need to separate' talk. I also saw her writing lines and lines, moaning and cry arsing about what a massive cunt I am, which at most, had about 5% truth to them. Not a word about her past cheating and numerous male 'friends' she'd keep in orbit. You have to be the villain, so…

There is absolutely nothing in this world better than ending up with 50/50 after no longer being married to a self absorbed narcissistic screeching arsehole. I love my life now, about 14 months after thinking the whole world has collapsed and my best option was to go to the rope.

I think I can chime in on this one. I, like yourself have a five year old girl too. And also, like yourself, I feel I have an incredible bond with her that I don't think is typical. 14 months since I left the family home and I don't miss the cloven horned one even a tiny bit. The similarity with you ends there. Me and she who walks backwards, worked out a fifty/fifty schedule- half the week with me and half with her of the horns, tail and trident. We live in the same small town in the UK, I live…

One of the things I've learned from my experience of divorce/separation is this, and it really does stand out. It's infinitely better for your children to grow up with two happier parents apart than it is for them to grow up with miserable ones who are toxic for each other, together. Don't be scared brother, I was, but it's really not bad at all. I smile so much more now, as well as live with so many more positive vibes, and it rubs off on my little girl.

Haha, I can relate to this, I could've written it. They really do seem to like creating unnecessary drama out of nothing don't they? But you said, several times 'that's why your wife left you', making so many assumptions of your own. Nevermind that now, she's history and good riddance too. Divorce is hard, getting divorced is brutal, but being divorced is fucking awesome once we've walked our way through the mental and emotional process. As for the OP, I don't see it like you have- i see it as being about proper communication. There are definite differences in the way males and females do it. I'm not saying we're angels, far …

Well, yeah, I do spend a lot of time on here, that's true. I don't need it as much as I did, but do try to put a brotherly arm around a shoulder in need. Us men need each other because everyone else doesn't give a fuck, especially harpies like yourself. You are trawling a sub called divorce_men, looking at old posts from quite some time ago, picking fights with men under posts you don't like. Who is kidding who here? For the record, my ex cheated on me with six men in the space of a fortnight, a…

He's just walking through a bit of pain and heartache that he hasn't quite got a handle on yet, but he will. He needs to just let time do it's thing. Don't take a single bit of this personally, as hard is it is to go through. He's only bouncing his thoughts off you (maybe he doesn't have anyone else to bounce them off). Play the waiting game, absorb the barbs, it'll come good in the end.

This is exactly what I've found, after having the exact same fears as the OP. Not only is it not that bad, it's actually pretty cool.
/r/Divorce_Men29/12/25 09:10 AM

Yeah, you may miss the things you mentioned, but if you manage to get 50/50, like i have, your ex will miss them too. I don't know if that makes the prospect slightly easier to stomach.
/r/Divorce_Men29/12/25 09:07 AM

Great way of looking at it. I liken it to this:- you've managed to get yourself out of quicksand you've been trapped in for an hour. You're now clutched to the side hyperventilating from your ordeal. You then catch your breath, get your bearings and plow on through the medieval forest that my mind's eye imagines, thinking 'I can now brag about freeing myself from quicksand'. Or something.

She probably had a proper smug look on her face while she was putting it together, like 'this'll really piss him off, muahaha!'. Not reacting is the right way, of course, but I'd be tempted to text back something along the lines of 'thanks for the present, I was running out of clothes for him, so that'll come in really handy. Enjoy the rest of the holidays'.

I could have written this post. Are you me? Xmas 2024 was the worst of my life, hands down. Xmas 2025 was the best, hands down. What a difference a year makes. So OP... let time do it's thing and 'change' comes naturally and gradually, you won't even really notice it until you no longer feel pain and wake up/retire to bed feeling like a million pounds (that's British currency, not the unit of weight) Onwards!

You ended up losing your truck from helping her? Blimey... Nah, you're not a fool for this... Just a good bloke with the old provider/protector mindset. She took advantage of that. Now you've clearly learned your lesson and she won't ever be able to ask you for any help of that nature again. This makes HER the fool.

I lived in a marriage that gave me no space or no peace. I would have a cushion thrown at my head if I nodded off to the telly of an evening because the sight of me taking any form of relaxation appeared to be deeply offensive to her. Now I live like you do, and I love every single minute of it. I'm not going back now.

I'm a 50/50 dad too. Yeah, it's hard to miss out on half their life, but then, it's the same for my ex. Children need both parents, I completely accept and encourage that.

Damn! I may have to revise the numbers and adjust my ex's position on it accordingly.
/r/Divorce_Men20/12/25 12:15 PM

Absolutely not. I'm looking out for number one now (that's my daughter, not me). I'm number two. My ex is number 87,583,374 right after Vladimir Putin, What's left of the Manson Family and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

My cheating alarm is ringing like the bells of Notre Dame. She's acting like this because she wants to be with this other bloke. You're just 'in the way' now. I say this as someone who's been on the business end of this. Divorce is the only way to go now.
/r/Divorce_Men19/12/25 11:13 AM

Damn right they show where the problem lies. I was well aware of this data, and if you bring it up with women, they pretty much put their fingers in their ears and go 'LALALALALA!'.

Post separation divorce, I've been in a relationship for nearly a year with a woman who is the antithesis of my ex. She apologises for the smallest slight and fully understands accountability. It was a massive shock to my system, although a pleasant one. I've been lucky enough to find my unicorn lads, and it only took me half a century. You'll all find yours too boys, all you have to do is not disregard any red flags ever again- you know what they look like.

This is a good one, and one that helped me no end. This is aimed at the OP. That horrible, torturous circular ruminating that seems to loop like a stuck record? I found something called the 'stop technique', which falls under mindfulness. When trapped in those pesky thoughts, visualise the word 'STOP!'. And the idea is to then divert your thoughts and grab the reins. You may have to do it about 700 times a day, but the longer you do it, the better you get at it. At some point, the natural healin…

Exactly, the possibilities are endless with this. Picture the scene... The OP is in Starbucks or something, and one of his ex's daft mates comes in and joins the queue behind him... Time to get into character. (To server, all the better if server is male) 'Oh Sweetie, don't you think Goats milk is to DIE FOR?

They really do see themselves as some sort of Holy Grail we can't do without don't they? They genuinely seem to think we collapse like a pack of cards. Yeah, we might get a bit sad for a while, I'll admit. When that passes though, we become our old, pre slavery selves again, and boy, it's a hoot when we nail it. Shattering that delusion without really trying, gives a warm feeling.

The thought of you meeting someone else, or just generally getting on with things and doing okay without her, will be smashing her fragile, emotional female ego to smithereens. Carry on as you are and don't give her the steam off of your piss.

I read your whole post and saw so much of my crap marriage in there. My ex and I separated just over a year ago (divorce was finalised yesterday, whoop whoop!) and like you are envisioning now the life you think you should be living, I did the exact same thing... It is every bit as good as you think it'll be.

There is no 'how long' I'm afraid. But you should, if you can, put as much distance as you can between you and her. Get out of there before she uncaringly and inconsiderately starts talking on the phone to other dudes in front of you.

50/50 schedule here. Ambivalence. I miss my little girl when she isn't with me of course, but I don't mind her going back to Lucifer for half the week. My boss was very accommodating in giving me a shift pattern that works around my schedule. On my days off, I live with my five year old best friend, then hand her over before starting my weekly stint of three 12.5 hour long night shifts. I'm used to it now nearly a year in, and quite like how my life is turning out. A new motorcycle is on the car…

Blimey. Looking through this thread, it just hammers home that for men, there is nothing in it for us. No wonder women are so keen to get rings on fingers much more than we are.
/r/Divorce_Men18/11/25 08:51 AM
10

I don't think it's that bad. I look at it like this. I have 50/50 on a 3/3/4/4 day rota. When my daughter is at her mum's, I work my night shifts, my boss was great giving me a shift pattern to account for it. When she's with me, I'm totally free and she gets the best of me. Yeah, I may only have her for half of the week, but so does my arsehole of an ex.
/r/Divorce_Men12/11/25 06:20 PM

Women don't actually like simps. They definitely use them as a meal ticket and a passport to the 'soft life'. Simps don't get women's hearts pumping or their pussies wet, so they'll always eventually get cheated on after being treated as a footstool. You're 'fat and depressed' eh? Now is your time to get in shape and leave every trace of this woman in your rear view mirror.
/r/Divorce_Men11/11/25 02:50 PM

It has definitely given me more than it took, no doubt about it. 50/50 custody means I don't have my little pride and joy with me for half the week, but then, the ex doesn't either.
/r/Divorce_Men03/11/25 06:50 AM

Ha, I've been in this one. Hurts like nothing else, even if the split was a long time coming and you were okay with it. I think she was straight onto the apps a full ten minutes after the 'I want us to separate' talk. Totally driven by panic, ego and wanting to be rescued. She managed to find a short, bald simp nice guy who earns three times as much as her. Best of luck to him, I really worry about the poor guy and I hope he's okay.
/r/Divorce_Men31/10/25 05:41 AM

That's why I stayed longer than I should have. I'm glad she initiated. I can tell you from the my last twelve months that your children will be so much happier to see a happy single dad instead of a married miserable one. You won't be 'happy' at first. But you won't be abused and disrespected any more. Then feel-good natural chemicals in your brain will slowly come in as time goes on.
/r/Divorce_Men30/10/25 05:52 PM

Fair. Didn't mean to sound like I was excluding you. It's just that your post was missing some info. Are you separated? Still married, but have thoughts of throwing in the towel? That's all I meant. Either way, don't cook another egg for her ever again mate.
/r/Divorce_Men29/10/25 02:37 AM

Didn't say he wasn't welcome, of course he is. I was asking him what he was doing here, in the context of if he's married to her and having thoughts of divorce/separation. Why are you on a divorce for men sub? Are you still married to her? Are you separated but still living under the same roof? If the latter, tell her to cook her own fucking eggs. If the former, what are you doing here bro?

Would we have listened if they did? Poontang is the first thing on our minds when young, which leads us to a world of shit in our forties. Luckily, us blokes have a much, much longer shelf life than women, so starting all over again with a new attitude we can only forge after decades of female nonsense, makes us stand a decent chance of living a good last few decades on earth.

This is terrible. You supported and helped finance her upgrade, an upgrade that wouldn't have been possible without you. Then she announces that she outgrew you. Forcing your way back into the positive routine until you're back in the zone again, is on your mind a lot of the time. Translate that to your arms and legs and try to get back to the actual doing, rather than just thinking about it. You'll feel tons better when you do, you know it.

His side of the story is missing, and if there's one thing the last year has taught me- it's that a woman's version of events, and the real version, have about 25% truth in common at the most. I don't mean to be rude, I really don't, but one look at your other posts suggests to me that you're no picnic yourself. Some folk are simply wrong for each other, and bring out the worst in each other, and that's all there is to it. Best of luck.

I hear that, I've just turned fifty myself. I'm glad she's not one year old anymore, and passed the 'terrible twos'. It gets easier, a lot easier. Now, she's able to come into the local pub with me, where I can enjoy a pint and gaze out at the Atlantic ocean- she's got a bag of crisps, a fruit shoot and my iPad for cartoons on kiddie YouTube. I have a five year old daughter, and like most girl dads, the thought of her dating and exploring her sexuality about ten or eleven years from now, fills me with dread, because I'm a bloke, and we know about young males' dark sides and what horny little bastards we can be. So dads, are protective of daughters in a different way we'd be with our sons. Why don't mums warn sons about women? Women can be fucking terrible creatures.

Women really are such awful creatures, but when they show us who they are, they really do precipitate us into pulling our heads right out of our arses, like fuck all else.

I agree with those that say it's a spectrum, and every one of us are on it to some degree or another. But the OP is nowhere near the zone on it that makes him a noun.

The fact that you're here even asking this, indicates to me that you aren't one.

Don't worry mate, it's coming.

Just a hiccup, that's all. Little bump in the road. I was like a desperate, needy puppy dog in month one with the ex, and reflecting on it, I'd like to travel back in time to give myself a slap and say "SNAP OUT OF IT YOU LITTLE FANNY!". Nearly a year later and I'm now a brick wall to her and will forever stay that way.
/r/Divorce_Men12/10/25 03:20 AM

Well yeah, that too of course. Two divorces to my name now, but wife number one was nowhere near as bad as that bloated Montserrat Gabale lookalike I also went down the aisle with.

I was thinking this too

Exact same situation here, girl even close in age to yours. It's a fair bit of work and effort, but I've gotten used to it now. It's hard to have to give her back.

Well enough I think. I'm about seven months in with my new partner. She's the polar opposite of what I put up with from my cheating narco ex- hasn't shown any red flag whatsoever, not even a pink one. She has kids too, as do I. We make it work, we find little slots to see each other when we can, and as time as gone on, my daughter and her sons have a great relationship. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well we've managed. Never thought I'd ever meet anyone again, let alone someone so thoroughly d…

I had that one fired at me too. What does it even mean? I've looked it up of course, and it describes everything that is the polar opposite of my ex. Fuck me indeed

Ah! Now I really can help you 😊 Breakfast 3 eggs (how you like them) Serving of greek yogurt Mid morning snack- I can of tuna with low fat mayo, sprinkle some chopped up spinach in there Lunch- lean chicken breast and quinoa or brown rice Dinner- salmon steak with your favourite veg (I do asparagus). Sounds to me that you're out for revenge. You'd be putting it in entirely the wrong place if you did something like this.
/r/Divorce_Men06/10/25 05:52 AM
2

Haha, don't we blokes all do this? My ex would routinely ask me to stop whatever I'm doing just to get something off a high shelf/cupboard for her, even when the small steps for such a job were right next to her feet We don't call them the 'ball and chain' for nothing.
/r/Divorce_Men05/10/25 12:33 PM

Usual story for me. More money, more peace, next to no stress, no chaos (except for tidying up the knee-deep mess of lol dolls each evening after my daughter's been put to bed). No daily avalanche of unnecessary crap from Amazon through the front door. Eggshell walking seems like a distant memory now. Life is quite alright 😊

My ex, a couple of months ago, demanded to know the 'number' of the ferry my girlfriend, daughter and I were taking to the Isle of Wight. All it does is sail down The Solent from Southampton, which is essentially a big wide, but short river. And there's about sixteen of them a day in both directions. "Well, you ask me for flight numbers when I take her to see my family in Spain" as if it's anything like the same thing. Fuck me! Don't marry a Spaniard chaps, in fact don't even fuck one for recrea…

You may not be having much success but you are staying true to yourself and not giving an inch on that. Don't change that. Not one single one of them is worth it.... except for my lady friend that is 😉
/r/Divorce_Men03/10/25 04:26 AM

Why so? Do you want to fuck up some poor bloke's life the way it happened to you? How does that help you square the circle?
/r/Divorce_Men03/10/25 02:22 AM

You still have some healing and inner growth left to do Sir. Hold off from this course if you really are considering it, you are not that man.
/r/Divorce_Men02/10/25 10:54 PM
8

Absolutely. The kind of things the OP is coming out with here, are perfectly natural and normal- there's no way he's gonna burn like this for the rest of his days. There's nothing anyone can say or do to calm him down, it'll happen naturally.
/r/Divorce_Men02/10/25 01:31 PM
8

Ooof! I can hear this one, loud and clear. You sound just like me last December. Still get the occasional flash of it, which I can now grab, turn off and put down. Happens less and less as time does it's thing. I have no words for you right now brother, except things will get easier and better, and this horrific thing she's put you through, will make you a better, tougher, stronger person who won't take a single tiny pinch of shit ever again.
/r/Divorce_Men02/10/25 04:28 AM

That's really, very cool mate. You need to go with this.
/r/Divorce_Men27/09/25 11:29 AM

I have to choose the divorce. I'm now ten months in from separation and it's turning out to be one of the best things I've ever done, even though I didn't initiate it. If you lose the perfect wife to a car accident, your memories aren't tainted by the cheating, disrespect, betrayal and frequent arguments over nothing.
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/25 01:18 PM

Therapy mate, therapy and regularly lurking or venting on here will definitely help.

This is how men excel at the long game. Our victory comes from within, after battling through the temporary pain, anguish and discomfort. We've won all along, but feeling the sense of the winning unfortunately comes much, much later. In the meantime, it doesn't hurt to buff up our bodies and fatten our wallets through the grind. Nobody thrives like a rebuilt single man who no longer gives a fuck.
/r/Divorce_Men17/09/25 05:04 AM
12

Look at it from this angle... The bloke you caught her talking shit about you to? He was knowingly fucking another guys wife. When it comes to moral high ground, you're standing on the summit of Everest, while she's languishing in the Mariana Trench. Now moral high ground may not ease the pain right now, but the pain will fade, and you'll always have the moral high ground forever. Victory!

Mate, women have a great deal of power through their sexuality in a way men don't. They can have sex with pretty much whoever they want, pretty much whenever they want. Some of them are addicted to the instant validation that a hookup provides- it's like intravenous heroin to these types (my ex being one of them). They don't get that validation, that they're addicted to, from their husbands/long term partners- that helps to explain the cock-a-thon they embark upon. This is in no way your fault.
/r/Divorce_Men17/09/25 01:00 AM

This. They cheerlead each others bollocks.
/r/Divorce_Men16/09/25 04:31 PM

Like the wonderfully talented Mr Pacino might say, Hoo-ah!
/r/Divorce_Men16/09/25 10:40 AM

I'm sure there's some, but they're in no way the norm.
/r/Divorce_Men16/09/25 10:23 AM

It absolutely positively does get easier, don't be in any doubt about that. The problem is, we are men, and it takes us a while. As someone else in here said, they can go to the supermarket and find cock if they want to, that's their advantage over us. It looks like they 'move on' quick because of this, but it smacks to me of panic and a need to be rescued. Our advantage, is that we are much, much better at playing the long game. After enough time has passed, you won't even be 'playing' anything…

Exactly. Let those guys do their work, then the courts act accordingly.
/r/Divorce_Men15/09/25 07:11 PM

Yeah, I know I have a problem with making myself clear. I'll go to therapy to work on that 😂
/r/Divorce_Men15/09/25 07:09 PM
2

Wow! That's rough. I have no advice here, I thought my ex was bad, his sounds like an nightmare who goes out of her way to be difficult just because she can. I'm glad he's found a good woman in yourself who is obviously fighting in his corner.
/r/Divorce_Men15/09/25 04:39 PM

This...
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 11:34 PM
10

I moved into a two bedroomed flat (that's apartment for all you non-UK folk) from the house I used to own with that soul-sucking narco succubus. Depressing at first, but I've learned to love it seven months in. It's become one giant man cave, albeit peppered with evidence that a five year old girl lives here for 50% of the time. Onwards!
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 11:25 PM
12

Don't even think about sending this. Just don't
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 11:21 PM

I'll be honest. No I didn't. I suppose I was too busy feeling jubilation at non-abusive, male Kentuckians getting a bit of legislative grace.
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 09:35 PM
11

Who are these critics who say it'd "put mothers and children at risk"? I'm willing to bet these 'critics' are baggy-arsed, hatchet faced, misandrist feminazi harpies who despise half of the human race just because it has a pair of testicles between it's legs. Either that, or lazy good for nothing splitarses who are scared they wouldn't be able to live the life of Reilly on their ex's dollar.
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 07:39 PM

You have absolutely nothing I want or would be prepared to pay for.
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 05:22 AM

Thank you kindly Sir. Been working my way through this process since November last year, but definitely getting there.
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 03:28 AM
12

Looking through this thread, I'm amazed that something that made me feel traumatised, alone and near suicidal, is so widespread. Oh how I wish I'd have seen her coming and not ignored or disregarded the many, many early red flags. That's what comes of being what I call 'cuntstruck' I suppose. Never, ever again.
/r/Divorce_Men13/09/25 07:33 PM
12

Oh it will do mate, as it did mine, forever. This will end up being a good thing that benefits you in the long run, as it has for me. Much more importantly, is that the pain, anguish and despair does stop, it really does. You've got this brother.
/r/Divorce_Men13/09/25 04:57 PM
15

The realisation, the discovery. Nothing stings like it, absolutely nothing. So sorry pal. You'll never forget it- it may have even rewired the way you think and see the world, but rest assured, it does get easier over time.
/r/Divorce_Men13/09/25 04:32 PM
1

I count myself lucky in this respect. I have 50/50 with mine. When she's not with me, I work nights (only three a week, but they're 12 and a half hour long). And I sleep between those of course. The rest of the time, she's at mine. Been like this since February when I moved out, and it's working well so far. I don't regret having her for one second, but I do regret hugely, that I gave anything more than recreational single use only to that lying, cheating, bullying narco fuckpig I call my ex.
/r/Divorce_Men13/09/25 03:26 AM
2

Ooh, that's rough. But the silver lining to that is that after enough time has passed, you won't even notice when the date arrives and passes.
/r/Divorce_Men12/09/25 03:06 AM
2

I'm lucky in the sense that I can't for the life of me remember mine. I'm nearly sure it is in November, I think.
/r/Divorce_Men12/09/25 02:40 AM

The way I see it- you are under no obligation whatsoever to preserve her reputation, to anyone. She made the choice and it's hers to own and live with, and that includes the consequences to herself.
/r/Divorce_Men11/09/25 08:58 PM
6

That's what comes of electing so many left wing twats into Holyrood.
/r/Divorce_Men11/09/25 02:26 PM
4

I've now gotten to a point now, where I don't give a flying fuck what any woman, or any disapproving eyes, think about me and the fact that I'm divorced. I'm bulletproof in this war, and I'm not even firing any of my own shots at anyone. If only I'd had this attitude in my twenties- better late than never eh?
/r/Divorce_Men11/09/25 09:59 AM
14

My ex gave it a full ten minutes before downloading her favourite shag apps, after the 'we need to separate' talk. She was on dates about 48 hours later with the best that Tinder had to offer (well, why not? That's where I found her, just days after she dropped some other poor bloke in the shit). It took me about three months just to summon up the wherewithal just to have a wank.
/r/Divorce_Men10/09/25 05:08 PM
8

This.. I lost my house too, she got it. I'm renting again, but the way I see it, if the water boiler breaks down or the roof blows off, it'll be on someone else's dime. I'm fine with it.
/r/Divorce_Men10/09/25 02:55 PM
8

Don't be dramatic lads. It was just the emotion and the pain talking. I've screamed all kinds of obscenities and death threats at Liverpool players who fall like a dying swan just to get a penalty or free kick against my beloved Everton. I don't really mean it* You get the idea. *Yes I fucking do.
/r/Divorce_Men06/09/25 12:42 AM
3

Great post that describes exactly how it is. There's sunshine after the storm though, because it all fades away. You may not forget it, but the emotions of it will leave you, and when you're healed, you become a X10 better version of yourself because of what you took from it.
/r/Divorce_Men05/09/25 02:38 PM
2

Fuckin' love this! Just superb!
/r/Divorce_Men05/09/25 07:50 AM

You thought marrying her would improve things didn't you? The opposite always happens mate.
/r/Divorce_Men05/09/25 02:43 AM
2

Don't. It'll remind you of being married again 😂
/r/Divorce_Men05/09/25 01:09 AM
11

I get what you're saying, but they really aren't. Accountability is missing over there.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 11:28 PM

Oof! I definitely hear that fella. Either way, don't let her take you for a cunt, she's had more than enough from you. Best wishes.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 11:07 PM
6

I had a look too. The conceitedness, delusion and sanctimony is off the charts. So glad I'm a bloke.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 10:44 PM
1

Okay then... Seeing as you brought up budgeting, I'm guessing money is a little bit tighter than you'd like it to be? In that case, it wouldn't be unreasonable of you to ask for a little monetary help for the duration, seeing as you'd be doing her a massive favour in this. But you won't, because you're a bloke, and us blokes are chock full of pride
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 10:38 PM
19

You can tell that response was typed with such animated, excited glee, she probably broke her keyboard/smashed the glass on her phone. Total psychopaths, the lot of them.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 10:31 PM
1

Well I'd be inclined to help out on this if there was a sure way of knowing if was a genuine work trip, rather than the little party holiday that it could be. I wouldn't accommodate the latter.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 10:27 PM
1

Could her family take the kids for the week rather than you use up precious paid leave from work that I'm sure you had something special planned for it instead?
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 10:00 PM
7

I'm definitely less inclined to take any shit that comes my way now, in any of its forms. I've become a bit like Ricky Gervais in After Life, so liberating. But I fear I may be becoming a right arsehole, when I used to be a lovely bloke. That version of me is pretty much gone now, for better or worse.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 03:51 PM
14

Not even a tiny bit. I regret swiping right on the gobshite eight years ago. At least I got a lovely little girl out of it.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 05:39 AM

Jesus! I've heard some bonkers stuff on here, but 'My wife is getting bummed by her laptop' takes the biscuit.
/r/Divorce_Men04/09/25 05:10 AM
3

Ten months in and I'm finding that I get less and less worked up at the sight and sound of her (co-parenting, so I have to have contact). It seems to be fading.
/r/Divorce_Men03/09/25 12:18 PM
5

Yeah what I said was the worst case scenario. One possibility is taking him to Las Vegas, they could clean up at the roulette wheel.
/r/Divorce_Men01/09/25 01:15 PM
7

Do what you think is right man, but you'll just have to remember a couple of things. Her special needs adult son? Don't look him directly in the eye or touch his ears- he'll smash up your house with the ferocity and strength of twelve gorillas.
/r/Divorce_Men01/09/25 12:10 PM
1

That's such a great way of looking at it.
/r/Divorce_Men31/08/25 02:24 PM
3

I imagine you thought that at one time, the idea of her cheating on you was unlikely too. But, you seem like you have a good guard up and won't be taken for a fool again. Best of luck and best wishes.
/r/Divorce_Men31/08/25 03:14 AM
9

Seems to me like she's looking to worm her way into your life again. She's playing some sort of long game and being patient.
/r/Divorce_Men31/08/25 03:04 AM
7

This is totally horrific, I feel for you- there is nothing worse than this, nothing. I've been there. Just know man, that this isn't your fault, it really isn't. What she's doing, is filling gaping holes in her self esteem, coupled with the instant validation she gets from doing this, that women are addicted to like crack cocaine. There is absolutely nothing you could have done to stop this, it's been part of her for years.
/r/Divorce_Men30/08/25 09:28 PM

I changed my ex's to Lucifer. Even changed the background on the WhatsApp to the great fallen angel himself. Changed her ringtone to O Fortuna (famous song from The Omen).

Perfectly normal this mate. We don't move on in this way anywhere near as fast as they seem to be able to. I think my ex gave it a good seven minutes before she downloaded Tinder, after we had the 'we need to separate' talk. Took me a good three months before I even entertained the thought of touching another woman. It'll pass

You're going through the motions brother, this is a good thing, although it feels like the worst thing in the world. I think of it like this... You know when you've had a lot to drink? Loads of shots, you overdid it, room spinning etc. You lie down somewhere, and the room keeps spinning. Such an uncomfortable feeling. Doesn't having a good puke take the edge right of it eh? This is it. You're having an emotional equivalent of a good puke.

Haha, I thought the exact same thing mate- permanent and unmovable. It feels like that now because it's all so fresh. Time, coupled with allowing yourself to feel the emotions when they arrive, will see the thoughts diminish sooner than you think, much sooner.
/r/Divorce_Men23/08/25 06:03 AM

Big respect to you for acting normal while all sorts of nightmarish chaos is swimming around your head. Really wish I had words of some use to you, but I don't, I'm sorry. All I have, is to tell you that the thoughts will leave your head at some point. Keep up the act and very best of luck.

I've found the same thing. I could be largely okay and totally indifferent for months, then a location name being brought up on the local TV news in the background could conjure up one of the very few happy memories I had with her. So not a dream, more of a trigger, but I feel we're in the same ball park here. Cue a three day long downer. I don't remotely want her back, and very rarely did I enjoy a single minute of her company in the last two years. Bedroom was as dead as a dodo (down to me bec…

That was quite a read, and a painful one at that. I'm so sorry you've been going through this for so long. I didn't give it three decades, but I recognise so much of what you talked about in my own crap marriage. The loneliness to come won't be anywhere near as bad as the loneliness you felt when you were with her. You're free brother- better late than never, but you're free. Now begins the rebuild.
/r/Divorce_Men16/08/25 07:04 AM

Sounds like everything is in order here. Carry on with this mindset- it is, and will continue to serve you well
/r/Divorce_Men10/08/25 08:28 AM
10

Nah mate. She's choosing to hypnotise herself into feeling this way, it's all a subconscious attempt to justify to herself whatever her course of action is. Women aren't evil, but they are vain and incredibly self-centred. So they absolve themselves of guilt in whichever way they can- which includes lying to themselves and friends/family about how shit went down. All it takes for them to think you're 'emotionally disengaged' is to not vacuum the stairs the moment they click thier fingers.
/r/Divorce_Men10/08/25 08:17 AM

I hear you. I get the emotion and the 'fuck you' mode But don't drag it out in the name of one-upmanship. Get her out of your life as fast as you can, then concentrate on being the man you really want to be.

My ex went bananas when she found out my new girlfriend minded our daughter for five minutes while I went on a fairground ride*. This is the same woman who demanded we check with each other before introducing our daughter to someone new when we first separated, then did just that without telling me with a tinder hookup she'd only met a week previously. *Aerospace at Barry Island for all your fairground fans- Jesus! never again!
/r/Divorce_Men10/08/25 07:43 AM

Well... There's a very good reason for her doing this. She's in panic mode. She's looking to lock him down by any means necessary. When she feels she has, she'll be all 'we can't keep relying on mum, it's not fair on her'. Don't take that personally dude, as hard as it is.

No shortage of folk from Blighty here, of which I am one. It seems to be mainly Americans, but that doesn't matter one bit. We're all in the same fucked up boat here, navigating our way though these waters as best we can.

I think you need to keep this woman at arm's length from now on, only interacting in a civil and cordial manner with regards to co-parenting. You're no longer responsible for her and it sounds like she'll manage just fine anyway. Concentrate on being the great dad that you are.
/r/Divorce_Men09/08/25 03:13 PM
3

Pardon my language mate, but fuck that! She's being more than ridiculous. But, because you're a bloke, you can't help but go into provider mode, even when no longer together. It's time to ditch that mentality.
/r/Divorce_Men09/08/25 03:02 PM

This... It seems to me that this ex, even though she doesn't want to be with the OP anymore, she wants to 'clip his wings' if you will. They can't bear to see us prosper without them.
/r/Divorce_Men09/08/25 02:45 PM

Hang on... Let me get this right... She has a property portfolio that she makes an income from? She moved into one of the properties that she owns outright (no mortgage I take it)? She's asking you to contribute to 'rent' to this? WTF are you even doing 'considering' this? It doesn't make sense mate. This 'relationship' should be over. She's taking the piss.

Wow! I could've written this, you've exactly described my marriage It does seem like the worm has definitely turned for you though and you're on the right path, or can at least see that path from where you stand.

Only way the marriage could continue, was for me to cave to each and every single one of her unreasonable demands and expectations, while losing more and more pieces of my identity and what makes me the person I am. Parson my french, but fuck that for a game of soldiers

The marriage wasn't technically 'ruined'- it was already crap from day one. She withdrew when I started to stand up to her bullying, controlling, cheating ways. Nine months later and it turns out to be the very best thing she's ever done for me.

Amazing that you could get so much clarity from such a simple occurrence in nature like that. Reminds me of the Robert The Bruce Story, who ended up beating The English at Bannockburn just from watching a spider spin it's web.

That'd be a better strategy, but the OP's ghoul ex wife also needs to be on board with it Sounds to me like she isn't so inclined.

I'm not recommending this, but if somebody was to prime your children to say "go f*** yourself, you Karl Marx-looking c**t' in response to Santa's attempts at discipline, it'd maybe make your ghoul of an ex wife think twice about using your children as weapons in a bid to get one over your current lady.

All those after work drinks and dinners all added up, where she was regaled with fluffy stories about how great her colleagues' lives were- tales of fun, freedom, debauchery. She began to think that she wanted a bit of that All she could comment back, was her account of life with you and your boy, and made to feel how dull and drab things must be for her. It was then a slow burn to where you've ended up now. The unfulfilling emptiness of whatever high it is she's chasing now, will bite her on th…

Stop helping her out when she asks. You know what she's like, you know what she's up to- don't give her a second of your time ever again. Blimey, you married a total psychopath, just like I did. I'm eight months in, 50/50 custody with my daughter, have much more time, space and peace, able to dedicate time and energy on the things I'm interested in. None of that was possible when I was still married to the self-absorbed, cheating narco ghoul. I still find myself fantasising about her driving her…

Deffo getting there... Marriage was a steaming pile of crap. Totally wrong for each other and the relationship was as healthy as a patient in an iron lung. Blazing rows several times a week, over tiny, trivial stupid things. Constantly on edge, eggshell walking, performing just enough like the monkey she wanted me to be just to avoid any kind of hassle. Dozing off on the couch of an evening, in front of the telly, would result in a cushion thrown at my head because the sight of me undertaking an…

I know the feeling well, and what a fantastic feeling it is too when that corner is turned! I almost forgot what it was like to live with peace, freedom and in a stress-free environment .I too still have my moments, but I wouldn't swap this for all the tea in China.

Going through this thread, I keep seeing the side taken of the cheating wife- I am no exception. Four blokes in the space of two weeks (that I know of) her ridiculous mates think the sun shines out of her arsehole and I'm the bitter unreasonable 'abusive' one in their eyes. Fuck the lot of them, turds!

Expect another call when things inevitably go tits-up between her and lover boy. This time, don't give her the time of day and say nothing more than 'I don't think we should discuss anything about us anymore'. My ex is cut from the same cloth and gave very similar confusing vibes, so I feel you brother.

Whenever I read a story like this I always give the same advice. Which is to set up an elaborate system of Home Alone style traps, I'm talking half full paint pots on ropes swinging her straight into the face, upturned carpet tacks left at the side of her bed and marbles left on slippery floors. 'keep the change, you filthy animal'.

As soon as you said 'wanted space', 'to be alone' and 'to find herself', I knew another prong had to be involved in the equation. They really are such one-dimensional arseholes.

This is the most bonkers story I've ever heard, but at the same time, the best revenge story since The Count Of Monte Cristo. Punching the air for you here man, life certainly worked out well for you in the end. Wishing you and your wife nothing but the continuation of good things and good times ahead.

Sorry Pal, but you being a bloke and your daughters being female, should be no impediment whatsoever in how strong a relationship you want to have with them. I have a four year old girl, and my relationship with her is far stronger than the one that her mum has with her. A lot more young women these days are into fishing, boxing, football and being able to strip an engine. Because they're brought up by single dads like me.

Fuck man... Reading this made me feel a bit emotional, and that's not a thing that comes easily to me. The reason it hits me is because I have a daughter myself, a four year old- doing something like that to her is unthinkable. May your ex rot in hell for that, waste of space dickhead of a woman.

I gave it to her because her sister bought both of them. I now feel bad because I missed an opportunity. What I wished I'd have done was this... Sell it at one of those cash converter shops that we have everywhere here in the UK, for the price of one simple pint of beer in the pub next door. 'ah this is a good one mate, nice weight to it, nice white gold, I'll give you a hundred quid for it' 'nah, just give me £4.49'. Opportunity well and truly missed.

Wow! I think I can chime in on this one. Seriously, most of what you described above, I could've written I know exactly how you feel. You'll be happier if you end it. The short term pain that'd follow is nowhere near as bad as the negative way you're living right now, which will not get better. Be prepared for it to sting a bit at first. Great advice which I'd urge anyone going through similar to follow. My angry phase lasted about six weeks (still hate her guts and don't see that changing any time soon) but I have gotten pretty good at not showing it. I could've written this one. I've found a proper diamond of a woman who is beyond my best dreams. OP, such good days are ahead for you, you have no idea. But you may have to walk through more shit ones first, but that'll be good for you in the long run. You've been shaken to your foundations. Foundations don't get knocked down- just the old structure above them. Now you can be the architect of a new build on the same foundations of what makes you YOU. Remember who you were before you met your ex…

That's terrible mate, but it sounds like you're better off away from them. Think of it like this- if the protagonist of your ex pop-in-law's golf story has changed, it's makes him a liar.
/r/Divorce_Men11/06/25 08:34 PM

Mate... You don't realise now that so many good things are coming your way, although it feels like the last thing that'll happen now. You do however, have to put a bit of work in.
/r/Divorce_Men10/06/25 09:51 AM
6

A lot of time has passed, so this is a tough one, but maybe the trick is to find your way to acceptance. By that, I don't mean acceptance of the divorce itself- you obviously did that a good while ago. I mean acceptance that the woman you divorced wasn't who you thought she was. I know this is very vague, but it's the best I can do. I'm sure some wiser fellas will chime in.
/r/Divorce_Men08/06/25 04:47 AM

Then now is a good time to write and compose some songs man. When life gives you lemons etc...
/r/Divorce_Men08/06/25 04:29 AM

Although you have no feelings for her, it hurts because you didn't get that closure- you'll likely never get it. Closure comes from within, I learned that one. If she's never given you an explanation, it's because maybe she thought the real answer would hurt you. Let go of it. And don't let the trauma of what she put you through colour how you conduct yourself and interact in any relationship you end up in. Not all women are awful.
/r/Divorce_Men08/06/25 04:28 AM

I'd agree with that. So many constantly have their phones in their hand (especially women). They live their whole lives on it and some live through it. It can't be good for us, the cultural shift since smartphones have existed appear to have turned out a lot of narcissists looking to one-up everyone else. Now we've ended up with an onlyfans woman trying to publicly break the world record for how many cocks she can accommodate in 24 hours, as if she's Carl Lewis.
/r/Divorce_Men07/06/25 04:36 AM

Interesting theory, there could be something to it. Hasn't it always been this way for decades though? I mean TV and movies could have been responsible for this syndrome, but to a lesser extent. Food for thought.

That sucks mate. I know when things were fresh for me, night time was a massive struggle. Over time though, it eased off. Five months in, and I can drift off to sleep no problem because my brain isn't occupied by her- don't even need meds. And when I wake up after a decent sleep, she hasn't been the first thing on my mind as I get out of bed for a while now. What is the first thing, is usually 'i have to get my little girl's lunch ready for school' (I'm a 50/50 dad). My ex is fading away into ne…

You happen to have nearly the exact same schedule I do. Your ex is being a point-scoring dickhead. When it comes down to it, she should put what benefits your child first, as you are clearly thinking of in this instance. Like I say, my schedule with my little girl is very similar. "without guilt or distractions or needing to think about what to do afterward for compensation" I hear this! Never a truer word spoken. This is a truism, no doubt about that. It's not all sunshine and roses for them though. For women who get back out there, the odds may be very good, but the goods are very odd. She's obviously angry and bitter towards you, just like every mental, unreasonable ex. Nothing you can do but keep on doing what you're doing. Stick to texts or emails rather than phone calls, they can be logged and recorded.

What a story! What a bullet you dodged! I love the outcome, nice to see justice done. Best of luck and wishes to you and your daughter.

You need to GTF out of there mate. Try and take the kids with you, or have them for as much time as possible.

Illegal it is then. Unless you visit places like Nevada, Amsterdam or Hamburg- then they're perfectly legal

I've been working 3-4-4-3 and it suits us both. We spend every other weekend with our daughter individually. It works well.

The fact that you've ended up writing this in a sub callled r/Divorce_Men shows me that you already know the answer to this, which of course, is your daughter.

You're living with abuse man, you're an abused spouse. GTFO of there and take the kids with you.

Good analogy and spot on. She has limited resources in that tower and will eventually run out of ammo and starve. Whereas you are fully in communication with your supply lines as you dodge those grenades. Wait it out and don't do anything dramatic.

If there's some hope like this that makes you think it's worth saving, you should go for it. But if it goes back to the same shit soon after, you know what to do.
/r/Divorce_Men07/05/25 06:05 PM

It will pass, it may not feel like it, but it absolutely will. Consider this... if this is the worst you've ever gone through, even compared to the other shit that's gone your way, then the only way is up from here. Allow yourself to feel the darkness and the emotion of it, it's just your heart and soul's way of getting it out the way. Your ex sounds like an enormous dickhead- how is this not a good thing? You'll be alright brother, I guarantee it.
/r/Divorce_Men07/05/25 11:20 AM

That doesn't sound too bad at all.

Yup, we are our own worst enemies sometimes when we let ourselves listen to our own head noise. You know it's just the up and down emotions of this bastard of a rollercoaster. Pretty soon, and much sooner than you think, you'll swap that rollercoaster for a smooth, laid-back, chilled-out Ferris wheel with an ice cream in hand. Although not nice right now, you can handle this cloud above your head, just wait for it to pass because pass it will. You've got this.

Haha, mate... Your "shitty, weird, lonely house" as you put it, will become a place they're gonna love- just you wait. The reason I know this is because my four year old girl loves spending half the week in the shitty, weird lonely apartment I moved into three months ago.
/r/Divorce_Men02/05/25 08:28 PM

Yeah, it was deliberate. Don't rise to it.

Make her work for it. Install an elaborate system of Home Alone-style traps all over the place. Checking her phone on the way to the bathroom? One strategically placed rake on the floor and then CLANG!! Back from spending your money on a shopping trip? Attach a pulley system to the front door which releases a half-full paint pot or two, swinging straight for her boat race- CLANG!! again. May as well have some fun brother. *Disclaimer, I may not be entirely serious about this.

Yeah. It's likely she's seen more Jap's eyes than a Tokyo optician.

This is the way.

Ah yeah, of course. You're powerless there. Here's a thought. Why not try it too? it's the last thing they'd expect. Play them at their own sick game.

It sounds like you know what to do man. I'm sorry.

Hotness is by far the least important reason to be with someone. She's a massive dickhead.

True, but that one stops working entirely when you divorce them.

Women can get sex whenever they want, it's their one, sole advantage over us. It's their quick, immediate shortcut to validation, as well as being the best way of becoming some other poor bastard's problem. I'd like to be a fly on the wall in one of these pubs- it sounds like it'd be hilarious to watch.

Your friends are right in what they say. This woman is not and cannot be your friend. Cut that cord.

It will stop brother, wait and see. It'll stay with you, but it will definitely stop hurting.

Yup, she has shown me evidence of that, that's in no way in dispute. As for Hubby No 1, Its a bit hard to ask for physical evidence from eight years ago now isn't it? I don't think vaginal swabs are gonna do the trick now.
/r/Divorce_Men24/04/25 03:18 PM

True that. They dump you in their minds for at least a year before actually doing it. It's a typical female trait to lay the groundwork for something better to move onto before offloading the current situation. Every one of them does it.

I knew someone might come out with this- it is a fair question, I'll concede. The answer is yes, she is the source, and no, I can't independently verify it. All of her behaviour so far points to me feeling I can trust what she says on this. Like I said, I have two divorces to my name myself, I can give Ross Geller a run for his money. The first I was definitely at least 50% responsible for, the second? I found myself trapped with a self-absorbed, lying, multiple cheating narcissist (not a word I …

Not necessarily. Look at the individual case before you blow it off. The woman I'm seeing has two divorces under her belt (as do I). Hubby number one was an abusive gaslightet who'd routinely rape her. Number two got lifted by the police for historical sex offending of children from his previous relationship. This is a woman who hasn't shown so much of a red flag to me in the six months I've known her, believe me, I was looking for them. Take each individual case as it comes, would be my two cen…

I'm glad I came upon this post because it very much mirrors my own current situation. You're doing the right thing here brother, I'm doing it too, just like the way you've described above, and it seems to be working somewhat. I'm also battling weird, ambivalent feelings as you are with a view to reconciliation. If we got back together, it would turn to the same dogshit in no time, and the only way we'd be able to stay together and make it work is if I agree to every one of her old unreasonable n…

This read has depressed me this morning (reading from the UK here, on the train home from working the night shift). My blood is boiling for you here. The system everywhere has to change.

This is just your grief talking mate, knock it off with the self-flagellation. You'll have to walk through some horrible thoughts, feelings and emotions, but you WILL get back up again. You're right about this place, it's a real tonic and a great source of comfort and inspiration. I'm more of a lurker, but it's nice to be able to chip in and give a few words to those that are struggling with it all as I navigate my own way around my own experience.

This looks to me to be the right way to go. It'll floor her and could make her worse though. Consider that this bloke would've been fed a neverending stream of her propaganda against you.

Disregard everything she says. You're a fantastic dad, she knows it, and she's jealous of the relationship you have with them (I suspect it's better than the one she has with them). Carry on as normal and be proud of yourself brother

I wouldn't go that far, but I'm at the start of it. Phoenix from the flames mode is definitely on the horizon, I can feel it. Thanks for the positive reply mate, I'll always appreciate a good back slap 😁

You're doing well pal. Your situation is pretty much note-for-note like mine (F4) I'm not perfect, but I'm doing okay too. It'll get easier as you get better.

Get out of this way of thinking, and get out of it right now. She didn't go to any concert. I'm so sorry brother. Get rid of her, and do it yesterday.
