Similar to getting your kids to do things. "You need to get your bath done soon." vs "At 8:00 the bathroom is closed whether you're clean or not." Guess which one works.

She said “I just need to sit down. I been going all day and I just want to sit down. It’s been a long day.” I say. Then go sit down and chuckle Sounds like your wife is generally just in a rut, pissy, frustrated with how her day went, etc. Her ability to control her own emotional state is nil, she probably has few real tools to parent effectively (i.e. control her own emotional state), and her husband is currently not reliable enough to guide her through any of this. She is stressed out/depresse…

There are ripped guys in plenty of 3rd world countries w no gym/AC/car who find a way. Are they better than you? I can pretty much guarantee that the dude getting jacked by lifting old car engines and doing pullups on a rusty fence is more mentally impressive than this guy.

Agree with this. While there's nothing wrong with using straps when called for, you shouldn't really need them after lifting for less than a year and a half. You are experiencing a temporary disparity in strength balance and your grip will catch up quickly if you just keep at it. It's like puberty, your body is changing in new and exciting ways but not all at once.

Haha he couldn't even take the time to learn enough about lifting to make up believable numbers for a shit post. "Are you a lifter?" "Oh my yes, I lift the heaviest of the weights"

Maybe highlight some different sections of the sidebar because none of this is in there. You don't push her away, you get busy doing worthwhile things that fulfill you. You don't try to be cold, you learn to be stoic in the face of turmoil and challenges. You are not apathetic to her emotions, you acknowledge them, accept them for what they are, but also set boundaries. Time for a reset my man.

Yeah the bigger issue here is about being honest with yourself. OP knee jerks to defending his smoking like some weirdo on the city bus who carries a copy of High Times magazine and wants to show me the article about how it makes you a better driver. If you like smoking weed for fun just say it.

Do you really smoke to "help with some back pain?" Come on. You probably fed this line to your wife and she can smell the truth just like the weed. You're smoking down the block from your house and changing clothes like a teenager. You are signed up for couples therapy. The smell coming from you is that of an ineffective man. Your wife hates that smell. You need to rewind the tape pronto and figure out where you went wrong, and you need to do it with 100% honesty and willingness to point the fin…

There are no sections in the literature here about how to work through deep psychological discussions with your woman because that is not your role. You should be able to provide appropriate comfort through this without saying much of anything. Are you a paragon of strength, health, and virility in stark contrast to her dying father? Are you emotionally cool and unflappable in the face of her work drama? Are you the rock she can cling to in swirling waters, or are you riding in the currents with…

This is confusing but it sounds like your mother in law runs your house and her own house too. Is she doing a good job? If so maybe just move yourself into the garage or a tent but see if you can still stay on the meal plan because she probably cooks good too.

May not be able to logic your way out of this one. People are all pissy because things suck right now, and SJWs think they can fix it all by shutting down everything they've always wanted to. It's moving beyond any particular transgression.

When a man becomes the leader of his own life, he ceases to be dependent on phony leaders in society. This is why the phony leaders do not teach what is taught here, and are in fact threatened by it.

Jack Donovan on modern society: "The average guy can now afford to be careless. Nothing he does really matters." So many men checked out long ago and are completely lost right now. They cannot observe, orient, decide, and act. Their wives are out hunting for food and toilet paper. Their wives are telling them how the family should be protected. Their diet and health will continue to deteriorate as they eat more junk and drink more beer, because they don't know anything about meal planning or mac…

Allow your lifting goals to drive here and things will work themselves out. Like someone else said, set a goal to get to 1/2/3/4 plates on the big lifts. Plan a reasonable diet to support that goal without gaining unnecessary amounts of fat. Once your reach that goal, reassess.

You may be overthinking this. If your wife is in a phase where she needs more than a forehead kiss, grab her face, look her in the eyes and say "HEY. I love you. I care for you. I want you around. Now let's go do _______". Then you lead her somewhere to distract her. Sounds like you're worried about ruining your progress by saying things like this. If those things are true, what's the problem with saying them? Your daily actions show her you've no longer got her on a pedestal, no need to verball…

I go out when I want and that's all cool. But I also allocate at least a couple nights a week for "fun stuff at home with the wife" and I'm running out of ideas so the TV (which apparently has unlimited amazing ideas) is winning. I don't want to give up and just replace those time blocks with "sleep". There must be worthwhile things to do. Initiating during breaks was sarcasm.

Sometimes people just need to relax and watch some tv. I don't think you can always be the fun adventurous guy 24/7 and be responsible with finances, children, etc. I'll try to get as close to that goal as I can. I watch one good movie a week with her, that's enough for me. I think the average American watches what, 3-4 hours a day now? It's crazy.

You've described my dilemma well. I hate wasting time. With a few exceptions, TV is a waste of time. I want to be doing something of value, and I want to include my wife sometimes. Having young kids puts a big millstone around your neck when it comes to this. If I could leave the house most nights of the week, I would. So the question really is: what things of value can a man do at home, with his wife, besides sex? I have been collecting board games to play, but my wife usually plays them begrud…

she didn’t respond to my initiations on sex. So we talked about this yesterday and these are the main keypoints: You talked to your wife about why she doesn't want to have sex, then transcribed her main points here. Nobody wants to listen to that because: It's a waste of our time. We've heard the same things from our own wives and that's how we know it's a waste of time. You've been told this before but you really need to work on internalizing "don't listen to what she says, watch what she does"…

Agreed on "doing it for yourself". The thing with DL4 is that it's entirely possible to accomplish by withdrawing time for work, gym, errands. The grocery store, Home depot, and car wash are not really the "life" envisioned in DL3.

Everything you're getting out of crossfit could be gotten from another hobby that doesn't directly interfere with real lifting, which should be a non-negotiable. I realize that sucks when you're so far into it, but ultimately you're limiting yourself the longer you continue. Something to chew on. In any case, enjoyed your post. I also found RP under woo woo circumstances: had reached a pretty low point personally, prayed for help, and found RP "by accident" shortly thereafter.

"lol"? Why is that funny? You climbed in a toilet bowl and now you're laughing while swirling down my friend. Don't blame anything but yourself. Spend more time in places where people are dressing to your level. If she wants to come along, she'll need to up her game. Her jeans, t-shirt, and vans combo seems pretty posh if the other girl in line at Subway is wearing pajama pants and old slippers.

I should have made it more clear that it's my mother in law, not hers. My mom went on a wild self-help binge years ago and is (or at least plays one on tv) a zen master of assertiveness and healthy boundaries. No trouble there thankfully.

This is such a low expectation that I hate to see it on this sub. Nobody here should be satisfied with being at a point where washing dishes or using a screwdriver is helping you in any meaningful way with weight control, body mechanics, or forearm strength. Get dialed in on your diet and lifting and this stuff doesn't matter. The dishwasher can save you time for more important things (hint: not Netflix and beer).

Last week I weighed myself and noticed that I was about the same weight as I was a few years ago when I was trying to "dirty bulk" and had weighed the heaviest I'd ever had in my life. How the fuck did I gain 20 lbs in the last few months? I've hamstered to myself that I don't need any cardio to lower by body fat %. Too many cheat meals on the weekends too. Standing, scrubbing, moving large pans around is an easy way to burn a few calories. These are just some changes and habits I've implemented…

All good things, but you sound like the women at work who are constantly coming up with "tricks" to lose weight like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, standing up more, doing arm circles, doing 100 squats a day. They never lose weight because they never track their caloric intake to eat at a consistent deficit. It's not hard to figure out: calculate your TDEE, shave off 500 or so calories and weigh yourself frequently. Adjust calories up or down to achieve rate of weight loss desired. I…

The only movies worth watching are the ones from 50+ years ago. Pretty much anything on TCM is going to be quality. Recently watched "By the Light of the Silvery Moon": Doris Day's character spends the movie chasing a handsome alpha who stands up to her, while the comic relief is Chester the Bespectacled Beta Orbiter who follows her around with a box of chocolates. The movie literally ends with them ditching Chester at the skating pond and taking a sleigh ride home together.

I’d love for you to say that to my face. Haha. Okay. 👍. Do these sound like the responses of a confident, oak of a man? Use your wife's testing as a chance to improve your own emotional control. Lead by example. It's going to be the same with kids, if you have them.

I also get that there are certain things a guy can do to inhibit his woman's sexual desires (like slacking off, not taking care of his body, falling behind in finances, etc...) For some reason you don't want to include "emotional strength" in the category of things that turn women on. Women can look at your body to make sure you're physically strong, but they must test you in other ways to see if you're emotionally strong, and they must do so continually in case something changes or they had it …

There is no "fixing" it. It is the female nature. You learn to accept it for what it is, or you struggle against it in futility. You fix yourself, and ironically it ceases to be such a big problem.

Eat at maintenance until you're back on a normal lifting schedule. Get back in the gym as soon as you feel ready and start with upper body lifts only, 50% effort. This will give you the confidence that your nutsack won't explode during exercise. Then when you feel ready for more, add in lower body at 50%. This will help you maintain muscle better than skipping the gym for 6 weeks. Your recovery will be different from others. For me I think I did light upper body after 7 days, was carefully squat…

Don't run home and tell mommy every time you get attention from other women. You may think you're displaying high value but you look like a child. The DHV comes from the way you carry yourself more confidently knowing that other women find you attractive and when you're out with your wife and those same women give you attention while she's there to witness it.

But this leads to a more general question about withdrawing: how do you not make it seem like you are reacting to the situation and getting chased out of your own house? If you only take walks after your wife acts like a bitch then she could get the sense that she is controlling you and can make you leave at any time. She is not in control because your default mode should be "busy guy getting important stuff done constantly". Two weeks in, your wife is still the Captain. And captains must give orders to the crew so things get done on the ship according to the captain's vision. So if she's asking you to do chores like "take the trash out to the curb because tomorrow is trash day", to clip the dog's nails because they're getting long, or to take the Christmas lights down because it's February...those are not compliance tests. You should not be angry at her for asking you to do these kinds of things, you should be angry…

That you replied to "what are you lifting?" with "I do Crossfit" is a clue to how serious you are about strength training. Aim for an answer like "deadlift 4 plates". She is saying "can I make him not go to something I know he wants to go to, by showing him that I don't want him to go and that I will try to make things uncomfortable if he does". They are one and same. You need to ask yourself how your relationship with your wife got to this point. Next you ask yourself what you can do differently to begin fixing it. The answer of course is all in the sidebar. Be thankful that you found this while your daughter is still 2. Put in the work, be patient, and you won't be back asking this question again when she's 4.

Let's try some logic. If you are "top 1%", then ANY jab at your gym work ethic should be blatant sarcasm to anyone who hears it. It's like saying "I don't think he eats enough broccoli" about the guy who eats a huge bowl of broccoli for lunch every day. Therefore either you're not actually top 1% or you're just irrationally insecure.

Yes I've achieved your goal of her being genuinely receptive at least 1-2 times a week. However, she still "doesn't like blowjobs" (but for some funny reason will give them enthusiastically when there's enough dread) and has given up on losing weight (she started trying about 8 or 10 months into my unplugging, but recently decided "it's not worth it"). Provide enough comfort to avoid the cognitive dissonance from exploding her head, but I think you'll find that this turmoil is a relatively short phase of your RP journey. She will hopefully do some introspection and work on her own emotional codependency. The insecure, anxiety-fueled behaviors of Dad mess up relationships with kids just as much as with your wife. Kids want to see boundaries calmly enforced, shit tests defeated, and an oak for a dad.
