Firstly, that sounds overwhelming. My boundaries involved not engaging guys who were overbearing, clingy, needy, and lovebomby. Basically, find guys who aren’t like this. That’s the vetting part. Then maybe compromise. Pick one channel you can handle comfortably (texting, FaceTime, or phone calls) and engage fully on that medium. This gives you the opportunity to get to know the person. Dates are tricky. I actually broke up with an introvert once because he only saw me once a week and live reall…

Buckle up as I have many thoughts. I ended things with many men for similar reasons because they didn’t get it, despite me communicating my preferences upfront. Mostly they didn’t give me feedback and I never sought it. But one guy quoted Labrynth’s Beneath Your Beautiful at me (“you built your walls so high that no one could climb them”). And then my husband didn’t just climb them, he blew them up and cleared the rubble. We were married in months and it’s been five years now. Of course, if you …

There were two guys of a different race to me that I dated when I was 24. Each of them had never dated outside their race and I was not their physical type up to that point. After our break ups, each has said that they wished things worked out with us at least once. One after he got engaged and one after he got married.* Their wives are now the same race, roughly same height, hair colour, eye colour, and hairstyle... Types clearly evolve based on experiences. *I don’t communicate with either of …

I’m not red pilled either (DINK household) but I like it here, because posts like this serve such a high level of peace and contentment regardless of your value system. I’m an active person with ADHD and everything I do is grounded in immediacy. So I’m always intentionally trying to find ways to slow down. That often involves feeling like doing and being more, but this post was the reminder I needed. For myself and everyone I love in my life, not just my husband. Thank you, OP. It’s been a time …

Super wild idea. But why don’t you just ask him? I was going to say he wasn’t playing games because there’s no express commitment. But then I realise what he’s doing is designed to lead you on. It’s always been obvious to me and I never stuck around, but it’s not been clear to many women I know. I guess you’re 21 so probably don’t realise this - but my friends are in their 30s and don’t either: men whisper sweet nothings and you should take it as a reminder that words without actions are meaning…

My first reaction to this post was seriously? Then I realised that, if you believe that you can beat him at arm wrestling, then you don’t see him as physically capable and I can see why, when I consider evolutionary drivers, that gives you the ick. No advice. Just here to tell you you’re not nuts but also it doesn’t matter in 2025. Hopefully, the feeling you had was fleeting and this post was just a thought dump. If not, work out if it’s really the ick you’re getting and, if so, what next. Speci…

Give off the vibe you gave off when he was most in love with you. For my husband, he loves when I’m spontaneous, fun, adventurous, consistent, kind, and nurturing, and able to hang out with his family and enjoy it. (These are not the same as the things he brags about when talking to his friends fyi - that’s smart, capable, great at my job, fun at parties, can hang out with the guys, and cooking lol.) Side. My husband and I have been together 5 years and married 4 (roughly). On our second date, h…

To answer your question, being friends with men - with whom there is no romantic or sexual innuendo - has made me more aware of the male psyche, including how different men are from each other. This makes me calmer, as I can trust my husband with ease. My male friends are good men, and they don’t mess around on their partners even if they aren’t perfect, contrary to the narrative often pushed on the internet. Long story re me: I’ve been married five years now and had excellent relationship with …

The amount of hate I get when weirdos on other subs stalk my profile and see I’m part of this one, because they think I’m some tradwife slave to my husband… That’s what you’re doing to OP. She’s part a different culture with a different worldview, and - believe it or not - it’s normal to be gifted even before you’re dating in some cultures. The most wild gifts I got pre-dating were an iPod, a Louis Vuitton purse, an over the top Swarovski necklace, and a white gold necklace with a (small) tanzan…

I suppose it’s like being able to rely on my husband to cook if I’m sick, although he will most likely buy food. I only found out well into our relationship that he can do more than a BBQ. On the flip side, I’ve only gotten back into driving this year (after a five year hiatus) and would rather call an Uber. But neither of us see it either activity as affirming masculinity or femininity. I suppose I love this sub not because I am a RPW or trad or whatever but because, despite that, I find that i…

Thank you for explaining. I can see how it would be unchivalrous if a woman didn’t like driving. Cultural differences are so interesting to me. When I was in Japan, I’m not sure you can imagine, but I was like a kid in a candy store learning about all the customs!

But you are going to the same destination so, to me, it makes zero difference - unless your spouse is an incompetent driver. In which case, golly. How would you trust her to drive your children (or even herself) around without you? I think this is one of those things I won’t understand and I don’t know if it’s red pill or just US/WASP trad stuff.

I am not from the US. We have fuel attendants who do this for us. Right now, I hardly drive and use his car (more than he does as he works from our home office) but he always pays for fuel. Maybe this is comparable. I usually fetch our takeout deliveries and he pays for them. He’s super exhausted by the end of a work day and I don’t mind because I could always use the extra steps. I think the “pumping gas” thing would depend on whether it was as easy as collecting the take out :)

Would you mind explaining why your husband finds the idea of women driving emasculating? It’s not a physically demanding task and women are able to match men’s competency at this without stretching themselves. I hope this doesn’t come across as disrespectful. My husband always drives (I only started driving again this year), but because he’s a better driver and, like you, I’m happiest as a passenger. I am not sure how I’d feel if he was commenting on other couples because he felt a wife driving …

Not true. My husband isn’t into it, because of the trafficking and abuse aspects partly. And partly (mainly) he’s just not really into it. It’s not something I have expressed any kind of problem with (as I’ve never had to think about it). And he’s got other vices. But he’s not the type to apologise for or hide his behaviour. Edit: sorry, my point was that I don’t think it’s a given that men will always watch porn and can’t be stopped from doing so.

Mel Robbins latest podcast episode (3 Requirements of a Good Relationship) talks about how to deal with this type of thing. I’d suggest listening but if you don’t feel like, she basically explains how to set a boundary. In your case, you can gently tell your fiancé that: - you’re anxious about being a bride (not a wife, a bride, and same!) - you aren’t able to plan the wedding - you’d like to help, but he will need to guide you - if this is the kind of relationship you have or if this is actuall…

There’s a huge difference between I want marriage with you in x years and I don’t know if I want marriage with you now and I don’t know if I ever will. Sometimes, a person may have a reason to want to defer a commitment like marriage. Maybe they’re still studying, maybe they’re recently divorced, it could be anything. If they can tell you the reason and give you a reasonable estimate on how long it’ll take to progress the next step, then that’s positive. But, whether you’re 23 or 33, don’t spend…

Mmmm not quite like that with us. The women in question go on to generally become SAHMs / work part time once kids are in school for stimulation rather than money. The wealthier the men (and their families, because it’s that kind of community), the more likely they are to require a woman who has a good degree, among other things. The exception is if she comes from a wealthy family. There are similar communities of wealthy Asians, Arabs, Persians and Jews, living outside their homelands, in small…

I’m not disagreeing with your view in general terms, but this isn’t quite true in my community. There are certain baseline expectations men have. For example, more often than not, formally educated men don’t marry women without tertiary qualifications. I was in school with so many women who went on to get degrees and training to be engineers, doctors, lawyers, and the like - then just end up being stay at home mothers. It’s a bit of a local stereotype. It’s only becoming less the case because mo…

Congrats on your baby ♡ This time is about you and I know how frustrating it is to have a friend who’s a drain, but who’s been around so long that it feels almost cruel to ask them to leave. It’s the kind of person you wouldn’t invite into your life if you met today, but also someone who’s been there through a lot. It sounds like this friend lacks some self-awareness but also like she is genuinely having a hard time. You’ve mentioned her constant medical issues, which are more exhausting than an…

I’m not in the US, I’m in Cape Town so idk how much this will help… I start by searching for local brands online and then I check out the accounts on Instagram. I also ask Instagram to suggest similar accounts. In the past, I’ve posted on Facebook community forums asking for recommendations for local brands. Then in terms of costs, it’s more expensive than Shein (although most things are). I’d say I’ve spent Zara prices (not sure you have a Zara around but you can check their website online for …

Local, handmade is what I go for. When I had time, I would go and buy fabric and have a tailor sew things for me but now I basically just try to stay away from anything mass manufactured. All the places I buy from now make garments per order. As an hourglass shape, it’s been a game changer for me. And ofc it’s better for the planet.

My husband makes jokes he knows I’ll hate just because he knows I don’t like them. Then he’ll look at me expectantly and laugh when I glare or tell him he’s a doof or that i can’t take him anywhere etc etc. And I only do that because I know he finds this whole silly exchange funny. It’s like a very weird thing we have that’ll sound weird to anyone else but we get each other’s humour. Sure, if I really had an issue, I’d want him to take it seriously. I’m so happy for you guys. It’s inspiring to hear! When we got together, I was 29 and my husband was 35. So we had not had the benefit of moulding into each other as you two have. I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this. As others have said, he’s a predator. I’ve not experienced this myself but do want to say that you will need a professional to hold your hand because of course you have PTSD. That is an awful, awful experience that I wouldn’t wish on any human being ever. How did things start between you and your wife? How did she help you grow? My husband is wonderful in all the ways but I dislike his style of conflict resolution. His parents, while amazing people, do not have the kind of relationship I want. I don’t think they communicated well and fought often. Conversely, my parents never fought. When my dad passed, I asked my mum if she just hid it from us and she told me they had 2/3 more serious disagreements which were quickly resolved because both of the…

I’m going to go against the grain because I’ve got a different experience. There was a guy who told me I was like person being sung about in Beneath Your Beautiful by Labyrinth and Emilie Sande. You tell all the boys no, it makes you feel good and you built your walls so high that no one can climb them. It stuck with me because it was true and I couldn’t believe someone saw me so clearly at the time. I have surreal stories from my 20s. I only talk about them with my friends who were there when i…

I’m not VS Angel beautiful, but I had a manic pixie dream girl phase where guys genuinely fell in awe with me. I say awe, not love, because I didn’t really let them get to know me and I tried to end things when they got too attached. But they were ready for this great future. When I said no, a few of them sent flowers and expensive gifts to my work. It was a bit of an office joke. He’s 21. He has the option of switching careers and bombing out and whatever else he needs. And you’re 23. As much as you think you know, you have a lot of growing and learning to do. Embrace the journey together instead of trying to dictate his self-growth and career paths.

Maybe something about the way you act and the way you look don’t add up. Socially, people in their 20s usually assume I’m in my 20s. People in their 30s usually assume I’m in my 30s. The only recent exception was a first year 23yo on my team who thought I was a few years older, but she said it was because I’m the head of department so it made sense to her that I was 35+ and just looked younger.

Your options are incredibly limited. Work on your body, at 5’10 you could look like a catwalk model. And then if you must wear pants, get them tailored or - better - made bespoke for you. I’ll admit that I’m 5’3 and have waist length hair, but I got a few pairs of high waisted pants with wide legs that cinch at the waist and they’re even sexier than plain old skirts. The fabric is really important. You don’t want them transparent, but the fabric should be light and flowy. Get the waist to cinch …

OP, you are lovely. I’ve seen your comments and the kindest thing you can do for everyone in this situation is find a good therapist. You first need to work out what you want: without guilt and self-criticism eating at you. The answer here may be to finalise the divorce and let his family take care of him, but it’s a traumatic process and you need to have a professional guide you along to minimise the trauma. I’m on my phone so can’t do the translation. But I’ve done a quick Google and agree circumstantial was the wrong choice of words. Probably the right way to say it is that there is still room for Tate and his team to refute the evidence (and he has a right to have the opportunity to do so). Y’all saw what happened to Johnny Depp. Amber Heard had splashed slam dunk evidence across the media. The full picture only came out during the trial proceedings. I find his voice grating and think he’s a moron, but can we not be those people who go with guilty until proven innocent? Evidence (that the public is aware of) is circumstantial. Not saying he didn’t do it, but let’s trade in facts even if we can’t stand the person on the other side.

I mean my husband is just over 6 foot, runs an incredibly successful business, and is considered objectively attractive. He’s fun, funny, adventurous, and generous. He’s got a tech business but he’s still incredibly handy with home reno, cars, his motorcycles. He also comes from an incredible family and his parents are still together (major deal for me). The only way out is through because things eventually get better and / or you get better at coping. I had a playlist with songs that inspired me to be the person I wanted to be. Drops of Jupiter, Suddenly I See, Unwritten, She’s So High… So I’d wake up in the morning. I’d feel garbage. I’d listen to those songs. Then I’d pretend to deal with the troubles the way the girl they sang about in those songs would deal with it.

I just want more for him than I even want for myself. If I’m happy? I hope he’s happier. If I’m successful? I hope he’s more successful. If I’m peaceful? I hope he’s more peaceful. So it’s not that I don’t want these things for me, it’s just that I want what I want plus even more because - as happy as I am with what I have - I would give him the earth if I could. And he’s the same about me.

I second (third and fourth!) every suggestion not to introduce him to TRP. The actual spaces are toxic. I don’t think my husband has even heard of the red pill. He’s just naturally traditionally masculine. He doesn’t have to change. He just is.

Exactly. But also, if a guy screenshots a picture of you in a bra - and you see that - you stop there. The problem is when you don’t know they saving it and thinks it disappears (because no screenshot notification) you build trust. And then you send more and more nsfw pictures and the guy builds a collection. I know I sound crazy but like some guys are suuuuper shady.

Well, it depends on the laws of your country / state… Where I’m from, if you die without a will and you’re legally married, your widowed spouse gets 100%. All fine if you have 0 assets now, but you never know when you’re going to come into money. Also, I’m not completely sure on the law here (also not my area), but if you’re the named heir in a will and you die but that will isn’t changed, it’s possible that your widowed spouse would be entitled to that inheritance. For example: - Will A: Mama b…

It won’t be a joke if either of you dies intestate lol. Look, I’m a lawyer and I see divorces all the time (at my firm, not personally, because I refuse to handle that stuff). I wouldn’t see it as a big deal or a red flag if my partner told me this story. But I would be pretty pissed if they didn’t and I found out. As much as it’s a joke, you should probably try to get it annulled. Neither of the parties actually intended for this “marriage” to mean anything so intent was lacking. That’s not goi…

Honestly, out of everything you said, the only thing that worries me is the company he chooses to keep. That said, I wouldn’t be happy in your situation either but you married this man for a reason. Don’t lose sight of why - or at least figure out if the why still applies. Biology = survival of the species and procreation. Men can impregnate multiple women at once and boom, more humans. Women can only have one baby at a time and that baby needs to be cared for. So the thought process is different. That said, we override biology all the time. That’s how we, as a physically fragile species, became apex predators. PS the equivalent of a man who cheats is a woman who’s a gold digger and will leave if someone richer and willing comes along. That’s also biology. Biologi…

I don’t think you royally screwed up anything, for what it’s worth. You learned about yourself, you’re enforcing your boundaries, and it’s entirely possible he’ll figure things out and decide to settle down with you. You haven’t wasted ages on him if he doesn’t. Yes, sex is and can be a big deal to you. But if you didn’t have a completely negative experience and learned from it, you’re doing good. Good luck.

Traditional men and women I know don’t go on first dates very often. In my culture (which I haven’t really stuck to), being asked on a date is actually quite a big deal and a symbol of serious intent. There’s just a lot more thought and consideration - vetting - that happens beforehand. If a man is not taking that approach, then he’s probably using the first date as an opportunity to see if you are worth his time and effort. He will declare his serious intent when he asks for an official relatio…

Firstly, your boyfriend doesn’t understand the consequences for your life if you take his advice. Trust. I have a religious family. My husband doesn’t. I’m not religious. It’s a minefield. But can you give examples of the types of things you disagree with? Like what could you say that would get you kicked out?

This is a risk analysis situation. Risk 1: he may cheat again and you will be devastated, potentially with kids in the mix Risk 2: you may leave him and you may always regret that, because there is a possibility he won’t cheat again and he has many other amazing qualities Which of the two do you believe works best for you? Imo if cheating happens after you know someone is the person you want to marry, then it’s less egregious than after. It’s because you still aren’t sure. This is especially whe…

I am sorry that is your experience and want to emphasise that, no, not all people with ADHD are abusive and emotionally unavailable. I’m not and my husband isn’t. We both don’t need therapy to manage our ADHD (although who, ADHD or not, wouldn’t benefit from it?). We were diagnosed young and have adequate coping mechanisms. He’s unmedicated and I have a prescription which I use hardly ever, only for work purposes (last I took a Concerta was in January). Neither of us would tolerate the behaviour…

I have ADHD, as does my husband. Always remember that ADHD presents differently in different people and it is a much harder experience to cope when you’ve been diagnosed late for various reasons. I made a post about it on r/adhdwomen this weekend and was so surprised by all the feedback from people who’ve had late diagnoses. It’s rough. On top of that, what your husband has is not straightforward ADHD and it sounds like there are elements of depression (which is one of the comorbidities of ADHD,…

Z2-24, i had just moved away from and knew nothing about keeping house. It was crazy messy coz my clothes were always on the floor. I’ve now had people say my house belongs in a magazine. I could give you tips but the question is, why are you messy? (eg I had never done chores growing up, had a small flat, didn’t have enough cupboard space, was very busy at work, had other priorities, and didn’t feel like shelling out for a maid once a week)

Either he’s manipulating you by making you think he wants marriage to make his experience with you easier - narc behaviour. Or he means what he says but he’s not yet sure you’re the person for him. How you go about this depends on your appetite for risk. When my husband and I met (Tinder), we both said we weren’t looking for anything serious. He’d just come out of a year-long relationship and me… well, 20something typical millennial issues. Anyway, we were married within the year.

Idk either but my mum said she never not missed being with my dad when they were apart. And, when he was still alive and she was away, he’d be so excited when she was coming back home. (It’s been 10 years and she still misses him every day.) Like my parents, my husband and I both have parts of our lives that are separate. We enjoy those separate parts but enjoy the together parts the most. It’s a want, not a need. And it harms no one. So I see no issue with it.

I get it. There’s some kind of magic in feeling completely seen and understood. There’s a reason people get so sticky when they’re perceived as something they feel they are not. Mum mode means you’re seen as mum, primarily, a lot of the time. So I can see how you’d miss being seen as just You, primarily. I’m rooting for your continued love and happiness x

A Muslim trad wife is just “oppressed”. Throw a hijab on her and she’s “brainwashed”. I’m not Muslim but my family is so I notice the narrative particularly and this is the narrative. I don’t know if OP is being dramatic in that description. It is very hurtful and destructive when someone you love and trust tells you that your past means they don’t want to be with you. It can be hard to understand how, even if this person doesn’t see worth in you, someone else will - because you’ve opened yourself up to them. This is when the reason is anything that you can’t change (n-count, being divorced, mental health issues, fertility issues, etc). And, if you are a woman with a high n-c…

He is entitled to feel the way he feels. It’s not even unusual for him to feel that way. But you can’t unscramble the egg. I don’t believe you should be demonised for any actions you took before you met him. I’m not even saying what you did was a mistake, it was just something you thought was appropriate at the time - but, even if it was a mistake, you can’t undo it. He needs to decide if he can live with that or not. There are people who can - not just people who don’t want to know, but people …

Not sure how it is where you are based, but one of my close friends and also my cousin are pharmacists. Where I’m from, you can do “locum” work which I think is like the agency work you describe. Basically, they’re not full time employees, but third party contractors. They go from pharmacy to pharmacy based on their availability and the pharmacies’ needs, all organised by an agency. I can see why that’s an attractive option for you. Depending on your interests, psychology may also be a good gig.…

The first thing you have to take into account is that we are in a global recession and, unless your husband is wealthy, it may be difficult to live off his income only - especially when kids are in the mix. STFU is my favourite. It’s worked wonderfully. I almost didn’t take the advice because I was worried my boundaries would be crossed, but it’s actually been peaceful. I realise I was complaining about things that didn’t matter and I’ve incorporated it into my work life too. Being non-combative unless absolutely necessary is something I wish I learned years ago.

That logic is flawed. Those people are picking unattractive men because they believe those men won’t be able to attract other women or because they think a less attractive man will just be grateful to have someone and won’t want to jeopardise that. What we need to focus on is character. Be with a man who wouldn’t cheat on you no matter what he looks like.

Thanks ♡ I’ve seen quite a few of these posts from younger women (early 20s) over the past few days and it left me quite concerned. Especially as many of them have been asking about men in their 30s. Women are compassionate and nurturing and it’s so easy to exploit us, especially when younger. This man has the financial means (so he says) to access healthcare but his mental health is still a mess? Forget about him not telling you about his divorce. Think about the fact that this grown, allegedly moneyed, man doesn’t get proper treatment for his depression and blames his poor decision-making on his mental health issues. And the fact that, despite this, you still describe him as “HVM”.

There’s a few things you could try. The strategy is basically to focus on something meaningful where you can, and, on bad days, to just allow yourself to find whatever distraction you can even if it’s a bit meaningless overall. I do think, even if your child is bipolar, that it can be managed. You may not have a problem with that, but your boyfriend clearly does and that’s his prerogative. My advice is this: - Speak to a doctor about the prospects of any biological child you have having bipolar disorder. - Speak to an expert about how nurture will impact the prospects of the diagnosis materialising. - Once you know the prospects, you need to know your limits, as well as the limits of the person who will be the father o…

It wasn’t super strict so I never really covered my hair at school (never outside of school), but our uniforms were called abayas. Essentially long, shapeless dresses. Boys had a similar get up. I didn’t mind at all when I was in school coz everyone was dressed the same. I did have a stab of envy at all the cute short skirt uniforms everyone else had. However, looking back, I’m glad that the…

I’m a lawyer. Fancy title, fancy money. I would love to be a SAHM because actually I don’t like having the stress of a job and would rather be a carer. However, no matter how wonderful my husband is, I have to be able to leave (future baby included) if things go south. I never want to be fully financially reliant on him. I also feel like I need to be prepared in the event his business goes south, he’s (heaven forbid) left disabled / seriously injured. Etc. Also, as a lawyer, I have seen people w…

Do what makes you feel good, that’s my old lady (32) advice. I had a work event tonight. I put on my ball dress and heels and full face of make up… then went to the nail bar. I looked silly but I didn’t have time to do my nails, get back home and get ready and then go. My boss is a woman and, when I have work trips, I tell her I’m knocking off early so I can get my hair / nails / whatever done. And she gets it. I don’t have a lot of spare time during working hours (ie when salons are open). This…

This is true. Women who are naturally petite often forget this. I take my body for granted. I look amazing for someone who eats what they want and doesn’t work out. But I could be way more attractive if I just put the effort in. I do, however, want to change for my health more than my aesthetic.

You have a certain style. It sounds higher maintenance than other styles perhaps. It doesn’t make you vain. You need to know who you are and who you want to attract. The kind of men I wanted to attract were the old money kinds who found the natural / effortless chic look appealing. They’re wealthy but not flashy. In my view, Kardashian-level of upkeep women tend to attract newer money guys. They’ll be the ones who have flashy cars, flashy clothes and the flashy girl. Nothing wrong with that but …

Same and I’m literally paid to argue. I get it’s not always with a view to win. Sometimes it’s just to make sure the facts are in order and the record is straight. But it’s a Hermione Granger know-it-all tendency and it’s just annoying, no matter who you’re talking to. My advice (which I also need to follow): take a breath, ask yourself if it matters. If it does, go forth and debate. If it doesn’t, let it go.

Stick to areas where crime rates are low - that’s all. The safest places I’ve been are Dubai, Geneva, Vienna, and Doha. And don’t be fooled into thinking it’s places like London, Paris, Madrid, etc. In Rome, a lady stopped me on the metro to tell me to be careful of pickpockets because I was so relaxed.

And now I know that it was the best love either of them ever had. Since my dad died, my mum won’t even consider dating. She tried once and she realised very quickly it wasn’t it. I won’t make hasty judgments because we don’t have info but… To me, it reads like he probably messed up and he wants baby mama back. In the alternative, he’s bending over backwards to accommodate her even if she messed up. Whether it’s because he wants her back or because he’s scared to upset her, it signifies a certain spinelessness and I can’t see OP getting away from that. Some jobs are often associated with masculine qualities. For example, litigators are known be tough, thick-skinned / not sensitive, intimidating, prepared to be combative / aggressive, etc. These are not generally considered feminine qualities. Often, what happens is that women take on the job and also adopt the common - masculine - qualities. I have chosen to litigate differently. If you did what you’re doing now (taking care of yourself etc) at the same level as when you were 22, you’d be a hotter commodity. I’m not trying to insult you but I wouldn’t compare yourself to other women, just yourself at various ages. Most men want kids, some don’t. I disagree. Looks and youth matter to men. It doesn’t help to pretend that’s not true. And it may not be fun to accept, but younger women are generally more attractive than older women. From a biological perspective, a woman’s fertility decreases more drastically in her 30s than a man in his 30s. In a woman’s 40s, a baby is a hope and a prayer for her. For a man, he’s got a way longer window. Speaking from experience: I’m 32 and look around 26-28. College guys sometimes think I’m even younger. I…

This is great advice. My husband pays for most things. Sometimes, I’ll offer to pay when we go out and that’s fine. But, if he ever leaves his wallet at home, I hand him my card. He often offers to pay me right back but I almost always decline as he takes care of so much and I can generally afford it.

You describe your partners as horrible, negative, abusive, and a man child. And yet you gave so much of yourself to them. These men are not good men, so why did you do it?

I met my husband on Tinder and know a lot of success stories on the app front. The next thing is: Why do you stick around for anything longer than a minute when they don’t treat you well? They don’t go 0 to 100 in a second. It’s gradual and you’re meant to leave them once you see red flags. Lastly, it sounds like you may have some personal issues that you may need to work on. When a LTR is concerned, a man who’s solid and stable is usually going to want a woman who’s solid and stable. You’re not…

I agree that we are / can be more than that but I also think everyone has a different journey. Sometimes it’s not a deep journey or maybe it’s just a shallow moment. For me, that’s okay because I am a mix of frivolous and deep and everything in between.

That’s fair. I’m not fully on top of what constitutes RP theory but I know Fascinating Womanhood is recommended reading (when I joined at least). I gave it a twirl because I’ll read anything and, in that context, this post makes sense to me. But I have seen a lot of “this doesn’t belong here” types of comments on different posts and maybe it’s time for an overhaul in terms of what does and doesn’t go here.

This sounds quite mean. I listen to all types of music. Avenged Sevenfold and Rage get me super amped. And 00s pop gets me in the mood for a fun night out. And some songs make me feel more in touch with my femininity than others. I wfh and I’m a senior. I made this little break in our day, where my secretary and junior and I take turns choosing a song and listening to it “together” even though we’re physically apart. They love it. I think dream pop and shoe gaze are two genres that are romantic and feminine, sometimes mysterious, sometimes dreamy, sometimes whimsical. It’s not the artists or the lyrics per se, but the Atmosphere.

My parents were the gold standard with this. And, it hasn’t always been this way with my now husband, but we are moving quickly in that direction. The difficulty is always ego. And you put your ego away when you feel safe enough to be totally vulnerable. And that takes time.

That’s really interesting actually. My TDEE is minimum 1500 on average day (wfh, sedentary) and it’s because I’m a shortie. My goal is to average 1700 a day though because I eat erratically. Like everything or nothing. My appetite is a mess :’)

I need to reflect on that because it wasn’t my intention. The point of my post was just to say it’s okay to depend on your partner for certain things, but that society has a problem with it. With swimming, I’ve explained myself so many times here. I float, I flounder, I’m slow, I’m not going to drown, I’ve had to swim once in the past 10 years (in Thailand) so I don’t think about it 99% of the time. I also posted about hiking the other day asking for advice. I’m working on that one. But hiking where I’m from isn’t just a walk. Here are some recent death stats for the place a few hundred meters from my house: https://www.iol.co.za/weekend-argus/news/39-people-rescued-from-table-mount…

Urgh I’ve addressed this elsewhere. I can swim enough to stay alive but not to snorkel because I’m really really slow and I flounder around so it wouldn’t have been enjoyable. I would’ve benefited from being able to swim once in the last 10 years so I’m not focusing on it. And I just wouldn’t have snorkelled if I didn’t have my husband. The point is that my husband has nothing to do with my decision. I’ve been having swimming issues way before I met him.

This makes a lot of sense to my sensibilities. I met him when I was 29 and I got pretty far by myself. Pretty far is good enough for me and I don’t need to do the “myself” bit anymore. I can see quite a few people disagree with the idea of dependency being okay in a marriage. I get where they’re coming from, but I just don’t agree that it’s all equal for everyone. If you or your partner requires independence, then great. I don’t think independence is a problem, it’s just not priority. My husband…

See last line of post: “I can’t actually say this to anyone in my life and it makes me sad.” I’m not distancing myself from her because she has a different view. She’s entitled to her opinion, which is popular opinion. Hence not really wanting to share mine, knowing I can’t change anyone’s views.

I replied to a comment earlier and agree with this take completely. It’s one of the things that I find so attractive about rp theory. You can’t be dependent on an undependable man - but, you pick the right man, and you can depend on each other with confidence.

I agree. My friend comes from a broken home and has always had to rely on herself, my background is different and I believe that I don’t have to be independent because I have my husband and, if for any reason I don’t, then my family to back me up always. But I don’t agree that “nobody said it was an issue to be dependent on a partner” because everyone says that. Independence is idealised. Dependence is demonised. That is very much true and it comes from a place of internalised mistrust. I just wish it didn’t always devolve into a Independent Woman TM from my friend and most people I know. (Similar spiel about my husband being an adult not a toddler if he says he wouldn’t eat properly if I wasn’t around.)

Still, it’s always good to check in. When we snorkelled, we went in a tour group and had life jackets. There were other Tour groups around. I would go on to say that one of the only reasons I am not expressly RP is because of how TRP is. If being red pilled is just how it’s presented on this sub, then I am. But I think it’s more than that and I just don’t ascribe to the way men on TRP speak about women. Conversely, on this sub, men are seen as valuable and we speak about them respectfully. Men on TRP do not speak about us the same way.

Noted: I’ve heard Tate. I’m not fully red pilled. I think a lot of what he says has merit and value. His Tater Tots fixate on the things he says that give their meritless existences validation. And he’s got as much class as a dingo in a tux.

Firstly, your friends are young and they lack the humility that can only learned from life knocking you around a bit. I don’t know if this RPW-approved advice, but my mother taught me that you leave at the first sign of abuse. Here’s the thing: things might not work out with B, but A will always be the guy whose abusive behaviour you experienced firsthand. Also, you gave A every opportunity to change when you were together - he didn’t take it. He may well be one of those guys that’ll fight to get you back then take you for granted when he does. And, tbh, if you are willing to be with him after he was abusive an…

Something I appreciate about RPW is that women are advised not to settle, to have reasonably high expectations, and to stay single instead of having situationships with undeserving men. There are other “more feminist” movements that suggest the same thing (different qualifiers, same premise). And what’s the key here? It’s agency and autonomy. I have a friend who married and a complete loser of a man. He is ungrateful, financially dependent on her, and mean (among other worse things, I could go o…

Everyone has made valid comments about virginity but, as someone who enjoys MBTI (ESTP), please take my advice here: do not focus on your MBTI type. Doing that is as sound as saying “I’m like this / this is happening because I’m a Pisces.” I’ve seen people get really attached to these labels and it stunts growth.

My mum once worked between 6am and 9am so she would miss school runs, but she’d leave me notes. She also would watch animated movies with us and LOVED them. Her general enthusiasm for play made me feel like she was having a good time and not like she was just doing things with us because we were her kids and she was obligated. And my dad and I were really close too and I have a whole bunch of memories that I cherish with him. Watching sports on weekends when i was older, and, when i was younger,…

You’ve asked a very specific question and I’m going to try to respond as simply as I can. The following are relevant: - He was on his best behaviour because he was trying to impress you, whether just for sex or assess relationship potential is irrelevant. - You’ve idealised him in your head, based on interactions over a very short period - interactions characterised by him behaving in a way to persuade you to give him what he wanted. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think a masculine man wouldn’t be shy to approach you if he was interested. That said, you guys work together and he may think it’s inappropriate. I just need to get a reign on that and then I’ll go back to how I used to be without them even. That said, meds or no meds, I know I can be combative and fiery at times and it’s important for me to communicate. My husband knows this about me and mostly loves it, but it can also get annoying (to anyone, not just him). So I’m just trying to figure out a way to still be able to express my…

The major frustration stems from his zoning out, which is his coping mechanism as a result of a stressful job. It’s not something I expect to go away, but I sometimes feel disconnected. Following on from that, he will say things that make me feel he doesn’t understand what I’m feeling and I’m trying to break the habit of going “forget about it”. I know there are tools to more effective comms etc, but what I’m really looking for advice on is how to express childlike anger as referred to in the wi…

That’s a really wonderful position to be in. I can’t imagine I’ll have a conflict free partnership but that also isn’t my goal and I don’t think it’s a goal for my husband either. It’s more about how I express myself during conflict but I get why you don’t have examples. I’m going to treat my ADHD better too. Today was the abs last straw.

If you could, that’d be amazing. But I’ve made a note and will check him out this weekend.

If you’re the kind of man who calls women hoes, repeatedly, no wonder you’re not attracting the kinds of women who frequent this sub. Like attracts like.

OP, it’s impossible that you don’t have access to a single woman who isn’t exclusively into partying and sex. It’s worth reflecting on. Also. I was friends with a stripper and we’d brunch regularly. I didn’t turn into a stripper by hanging out with her. If you know who you are, it doesn’t matter what your friends do because you won’t follow. The biggest issue isn’t finding these women (seriously, a little effort and boom). The issue will be if they’re unable to live and let live for your way of …

Is this also a RPW terminology too? I saw it on FDS but I haven’t been there in ages as it’s overwhelmingly extremist.

100%. I know that’s what Ritalin did to me and my doctor subbed them ASAP.

Yea that’s addiction to drama. My husband grew up around the punk / alt scene but he’s actually way more traditional than I am, yet still a bit of a snob about music. I’ve taken to explaining the nuances of pop music now and he’s a great guy so he’s quite receptive. I’ve managed to sell him on Harry Styles because I love music and actually am able to appreciate finer things around production and so on. In turn, I’m starting to appreciate punk music too. We speak about it almost academically but …

THIS! I commented and mentioned briefly how these meds will never make you frisky or mean. They literally just calm you down and the negative side is that they can make you quiet, more detached, seemingly withdrawn. Never more fiery though.

The main questions to ask are (1) would you stay with him if you were younger, and (2) would you stay with him if you had all the money you could need? If the answer isn’t a resolute yes on both scores, leave. Also, I understand time feeling like it’s running out to have kids but how does one decide that their future children deserve a cheating, lying, abusive father? It’s better to not have them than to have them with someone who treated you this way. PS I’m adhd and take variations of Aderall.…

I quote verbatim from the message - “Its users are uncontrollable and belligerent.” - so you may have commented tongue in cheek but that’s how it sounds. Super draconian.

I 100% agree. The crazy thing is that this is one of the most tolerant, solutions-oriented sub I’ve seen. Everyone seems reasonable.

I hear you. It sounds like the first comment was offhand and why he offered to pay half. The second one with refusing to split seems out of line. I think other women here are better placed to give RP advice. Personally, I would just ask if he wanted to talk about how you guys budgeted and split costs and agree a way that you are happy with for moving forward.

We don’t have any context here. Is he trying to save up? Is he on a tight budget? How does he stack up to you? Also, was he actually grateful you paid for everything?

LOL the punk thing is funny. People that are into punk music actually do get put off by people who are into mainstream music. Those people feel that it’s about the craft and a lack of appreciation for it when you prefer mainstream.

As everyone said, it depends on what you’re prepared to do without to be a full time SAHM. I’m a lawyer (no kids yet) but I changed jobs to work at a firm that pays a little less, but prioritises balance and family, and allows me to WFH. About 4 hours a day is what I put in. Other than standard of living, it’s important to me to have the ability to make my own money in case my husband dies. We do have life insurance and savings but most of that will go toward raising the kids. The economy is als…

I wish I had the words to describe how stupid this is and how she could have said hi, but instead she decided to sound like a PickMe. A man wrote this, feeling like a victim, and simultaneously shaming women who don’t have time for this bs.

My husband takes me everywhere. He took me to boys night the other day and his friend made a comment and I threatened to leave and his view was like “if you leave, I leave”. I wouldn’t do that to my girl friends but he’s got a different relationship with them. So I get the desire to want to be with your partner, even men have it. But prioritising someone who isn’t even married to you? In my country, we say nee, fok man.

That’s scary because you know they’re not all there just to help. They should be putting her in touch with reputable orgs or donating or something. Not contacting her personally.

I don’t really feel any sympathy here. I’ve engaged in casual sex and I wouldn’t have even told a guy I was pregnant if I didn’t plan on keeping the baby. I wouldn’t even want that person’s support because that person is just a body to me. My friends would support me. Women who want to engage in casual sex need to understand what that actually means before engaging in it and reconcile themselves with the fact that they’re getting nothing out of it. Women who know there is even a small chance the…

I dated a guy once, very good looking. Also, successful in 7 figures. Smart. Kind. But also an asshole. Idk if that makes sense? He thought I was lesbian because I showed no interest in him the night I met him, having been accustomed to the opposite. Up until I started dating my husband and cut my exes off, he would go so far as to send me flowers when I was sick, check in on me, try to fly to South Africa to see me. All people like him care about is finding someone that makes them feel like the…

This covers it all. Especially the last one, because if you’re on Tinder etc you talk to multiple people and maybe you actually meet one that makes you go “ok cool”. Speaking from personal experience, it’s not just a guy thing to do. Although I never blocked, just cancelled. Forever.

I wondered this when I read your post and I’m so glad you cleared it up. I didn’t want to be married until I was ready and I understand the push to legalise things with FDS, but I also don’t think it’s one size fits all.

I definitely pile the most pressure on. My husband keeps telling me how women age and it’s normal but my brain is a bit cracked from life in the patriarchy.

I know a woman from South Africa who married a man for a green card in Florida, then left him. My South African aunt and her friend each married Pakistani men, who left them without a trace. At least the South African woman had the courtesy of properly divorcing the Floridian man. I personally would always doubt motives in this kind of situation.
