Hey OP. I feel for you. I've been in your shoes. I'm not male and the problem wasn't sex but I've been in a LTR that almost became a marriage where I tried, repeatedly and in every way I could think of, to communicate the specific issue I had and beg for help resolving it. I got platitudes and "I'll be better"s and gifts and everything but the problem actually taken seriously. It sucks. It was a slow and painful realization that for whatever reason(s) my efforts were futile and the issue wasn't …

Pretty much. I have yet to see a single woman seriously bemoan MGTOW and this sub is constantly clogged with "but the men are gonna go on strike and then you'll be sorry!". Just go, goddamnit, nobody cares. (ha ha I am gonna get downvoted to shit for this but I honestly don't believe this is something women care about, at all)

Red pill and this stereo type. i srsly can not get passed this, it seems that this lack of recognition of anything outside your set ideas of people and your dichotomies doesn't exists. And the fact that they have a frat bro as the pinnacle of 'fuckable' male. Jfc.

But if choosing a wife was primarily about having a trophy... I didn't say this. I didn't say "men generally choose their wives based on hotness and in order to impress others." I do not believe that is the case. I am talking about the specific phenomenon of 'trophy wives' - generally an older, wealthier man who chooses a much younger, much hotter wife based on how said wife will reflect on him (i.e. how good/alpha she'll make him look) and not based on his emotional connection with her or anyth…

I think if all or most of your self-worth depends on achieving a single thing and you badly fail to achieve that thing, it could set you up for psychological counsequences. Male, female, casual sex, looking hot, getting degree X, living in neighbourhood Y etc. etc. etc. I think this problem is mostly a combination of inherent personality factors and parenting.

I see 'pre-selection' used in this sub, at times, as another stick to beat women with - i.e. 'women need their friends' approval in order to fancy a guy, men don't need that, therefore women are naturally insecure hamsters who don't have the bravery to just go for what they want on a visceral level without the need for social approval.' As ever, this is the typical 'i have observed phenomenon X and therefore somehow automatically know the causes of phenomenon X' failthinking. In my experience wi…

Maybe I'm not hanging out with the right guys, but I never hear men say "I want to score a trophy wife." Come on, 'trophy wife' is a thing, that's not even arguable. Same as 'toyboys' are a thing to some extent with certain older, rich women. The fact that you don't hear men saying "I need to get me a trophy wife" is because most of this shit is unspoken. You also never hear a woman saying "well I wasn't into dude X until those two girls started hanging off him and now that they are I suddenly f…

One of my mom's friends helped gather census info one year (going door to door in our neighbourhood to gather it) and this is exactly what she said - that the older (60+) women seemed to live in well-kept, clean houses and appeared self-sufficient and generally fairly happy. She said it was the older men living alone who seemed lonely/unhappy and somewhat unable to care for themselves (dark, dirty houses, opened containers of canned food lying around etc.). Now, as to OP's question I have absolu…

What do you guys think about this whole mess? Rolling Stone dun fucked up, bad. I'm going to be very surprised if anyone shows up here to somehow defend what they did or what the woman did. This seems like something any pill-related person would agree with. Has anyone been fired at RS? "They have a lot of pain, but it is not a pain that I would necessarily have spared them. Links to obscure and sales-related websites does not = "the rest of the world". "Toxic and sexist" - if you sneak up behind me and bonk me on the head with a dead fish and I get mad and then you say "but look at these examples of other people bonking strangers on the head with a dead fish" - it doesn't somehow magically make your bonking me on the head with a dead fish 'ok'. Oh my god, dude. I'm torn between trying to give you an answer that will fit into a 'pill' mindset and telling you you are insanity-level overthinking this. So, yeah, you're overthinking this and you need to get the fuck out of your own head. But in 'pill' terms, this: The male looks for sexual validation from females because he yearns for a confirmation that what he is doing in terms of building his life and himself as a man makes him into an attractive male isn't alpha. Alpha doesn't need vali…

On the one hand, Putin is arguably as alpha as any other leader of a large and powerful country - in a sense it wouldn't matter if he was 5 foot tall and softly spoken - he has power, the end. On the other hand, anyone jerking it over Putin's alphaness marks themselves instantly (to me) as probably young and very broadly naive. Putin is a cartoon alpha. He's a character. And he violates my personal 'alpha' criteria because he is so desperate to be seen as alpha. Shirtless horseback riding? You k…

Perhaps Taiboworks will have some studies for us? I would expect any research to indicate that IQ, if it has a correlation with investment in partner happines, would indicate a higher level of it. But that's pure speculation and based on personal experience only (i.e. could definitely be wrong).

It doesn't romantically or sexually excite me in any way. That's fine. No one is saying it somehow should be otherwise. But a lot of men are attracted to intelligence in a specifically romantic/sexual way. And some are openly horrified. Some, like you, appear to be neutral. It's just how it goes.

The only important distinction here is - who genuinely wanted to make me happy? And that sort of basic human goodness is not a function of intelligence at all. Agreed. A lot of what I've said in this thread centers on this point, actually, but coming at it from the other side. I.e. that intelligence alone says VERY little about how invested a person is going to be in another person's happiness. RP seems to assume that intelligence = less investment in a partner's happiness. I don't think anyone …

I feel like maybe two things are being discussed here. People/women who use descriptors like "opinionated!" and "independent!" and "uncompromising!" in certain ways. I am aware of this type of woman. As a straight woman, my reaction is usually a little bit of a cringe and it's also, notably, a desire to NOT spend time with them. I'm not interested in people who need to make a song and dance about how 'opinionated' they are. That word has definitely taken on some baggage over the past decade+, I'…

the cultural shtick that goes with being brainy at dudes is one of my best sorting mechanisms for insecure idiots. I was going to make this point but you already did. Being (perceived as, I won't start sucking my own lady-dick just yet) intelligent has been overwhelmingly favourable in terms of attracting the kind of men I'm attracted to in my life. the assumption that women will do anything to avoid catching a guy's attention even if they consider him attractive I don't assume this. I think women will be pickier than men if they know the person they're rating will be contacted. That's a much milder claim than the one you're saying I made. I think the actual reason for why this balance is lopsided to such a degree is that females get so flooded with attention on dating sites that it severely skews their expectations. It's entirely possible …

there are several problems with the "women rate lowly because of the consequences"-reasoning. You may not feel they're problems but in terms of using the data as hard/scientific proof of something, they very much are problems. Data like this would never be used in a paper, for example. I'll reply to your points but it's a personal/opinion response, because that's what you're giving, that's what this convo is. OP, the shortest and most succinct reply to this post is: "You need to accept the fact that the way you view the world and other people and relationships is not the way other people view it/those things." Now, what do I mean by that? You are making an absolute shit-ton of assumptions here, about other human beings, and it doesn't seem to be based in any kind of reality. Just reading through this little exchange. The OP's question was "how does TRP explain happy feminist relationships" and according to this convo, this particular TRPer can't even conceive of a happy feminist relationship - the 'explanation' will therefore not be something that is offered. Using the word "skewed" to describe this mindset is actually not going even close to far enough. Like I am usually super paranoid about dudes doing me favours This. I think this is something most women have realized by early 20s ish and I am just the same way. Paranoia is exactly the right word for it, too. If any male I don't know well starts offering favours that seem above and beyond I shut it down as a matter of course - all it takes is a couple of "but I helped you do X! wtf, bitch" responses and you get very careful about accepting favours. So this sub is sounding more and more like angry Internet people who choose bad company and make bitter decisions. I really think it's basically this. The thing is, I suspect that a lot of the TRPers spewing this are very young - many of them may even be completely or entirely lacking in sexual experience and/or relationship experience. Which raises the question of where this is coming from. My own theory is that it's coming from a)the fact that TRP is, like many tribal-flavoured groups, espousi…

TRP openly admits the dualistic dating strategies of men: while the majority are those interested in short-term, non-committed FWB relationships, there are some interested in settling down and raising a family. The above is from the OP. Already in the comments we have two posters making similiar claims: No one denies that men do it too and OP's claim is that women engage in dualistic dating strategies. OP, are you asking "legally, is this rape?" or "is this rape according to your own thoughts on what 'rape' means?" If the question is the former I can't answer - I'm not a lawyer and I don't know where this interaction is taking place. If the question is the latter I'm going to agree with someone below and say that this: She throughly enjoys it since she wanted to have sex with him anyway. ...makes it not-rape. OP this is actually kind of an awesome vid in terms of the little discussion we have going in this sub. OPs contention is that "women want to be raped." My reply assumed we were talking about a real-world scenario - i.e. that women want to be raped IN REAL LIFE. Fantasy is not something I touched on and I think it's rather a different issue. Semantically I think "rape fantasy" would also be technically incorrect due to a fantasy being 100% controlled by the fantasizer. If the WAW effect exists in more contexts than that which the experiment was conducted under (and it may) I also might be tempted to start some biotruthy speculations of my own re: if caveperson X runs into caveman Y in the woods, X is a lot more likely to be killed, physically hurt or raped if it's caveman Y rather than cavewoman Z. It's not fluff, it's the key to the argument. There's no other sensible way to measure success. How about power? The correlation between population growth and power on the world stage is shaky, at best. For example: Bangladesh has twice as many people, roughly, as Germany. India has way more than twice as many people as the US. The United Kingdom managed to conquer huge swathes of the globe, and it wasn't because there was more of them. I don't think population is worthless as a measure of a culture's success, but I certainly don't think it…

Are you talking about those almost cartoonishly masculine types? The ones with huge, 'roid-fuelled muscles, a shiny red Corvette, hair plugs, wearing a black wifebeater and squiring a tiny, chipmunk-voiced, fake-boobed girlfriend around? Yeah, some chicks are into that. That is a very specific masculine persona, though, and sometimes I think that some people's definitions of what constitutes a 'masculine' man are way too narrow. Comedians ridicule those guys because, to a lot of people (male and…

Oh I've seen people claiming that women aren't into manly men, usually along with a lot of "I like skinny nerds!" and "aggressive jerks aren't my thing" and that's fine, individual tastes WILL vary. But as to the general question, do women like masculine, confident men? The answer is patently and obviously 'yes' and ANYONE who disagrees with that on a general level (i.e. not just disagrees in the sense of 'well I like em under 5 foot and skinny as fuck) is, for whatever reason, failing to observ…

He traces this to the late 19th century, when factory workers—mostly men—were discouraged from indulging in emotion lest it interfere with their productivity. This is fascinating. Was there some kind of widespread belief that male emotionality hindered work performance at that time that hadn't existed before? Now I want to know how it was before the industrial revolution with men and emotions.

This very closely matches my experiences - of myself and of others. Any heightened emotional state, including happiness, is probably going to make me cry. As you said, not sobbing or wailing, but just the quiet, embarrassing kind of tears. I on average probably shed tears once a day, but I know men who claim not to have cried for years. I don't think the men I've known have been as easy to get teary as me or women in general, not even close, and I've always kind of assumed a hormonal difference …

The lowest common denominator on both sides does this, to the extent that without identifiers in a conversation they sound exactly the same. "All bad things are the fault of group X! Down with Group X!" It isn't that simple. I understand the wish for it to be that simple, but it just isn't.

Yes, because taking shit from someone you're not dependent on is harder than taking it from someone you are dependent on. In a way I feel like it might make traditional relationships better because both parties will on some level be aware that neither one is trapped in the relationship, you know? It might keep em both on their toes. Soemtimes I think this about marriage these days in general - it's become so easy to divorce that people who are genuinely invested in making their marriage work are…

Is it? I haven't read it but am aware of a basic plot outline, and don't they end up happily married parents? I.e. doesn't she ultimately succeed in getting her DT man to love and cherish her? Given that conclusion, can the male protagonist be said to be 'DT' - or can he be said to have been waiting for the 'right' woman? The latter is a widespread female fantasy (I will be the one to make him love), the former, being with a DT mate who includes you in his list of people to treat like crap, with…

This is just my theory, but I think a huge part of the appeal of the dangerous bad boy is a woman's fantasy to be the one to "fix" him. The story of Edward and Bella is enticing to a lot of women because she was the special one, only she could win his attachment. Agreed, with the caveat that I don't think the 'fixing him' part is inherent - I think that comes when he's not playing the role the woman has placed him in correctly. Bella did not have to 'fix' Edward, he came as the perfect bf. The c…

Yeah, I don't deny the trope of the 'dangerously sexy' guy, but to equate that with "women, irl, love dark triad" is...well, it seems very wrongheaded (this is a general statement, not aimed at your post). It's interesting you used vampires as an example because I have always found the vampire to be a sexy cultural figure. There's a line in the original Bram Stoker book that I love. It is common knowledge that women will consume media with male leads and male-centric plots without their femininity being shaken, while men will not do the same in reverse as it damages their sense of masculinity. The only problem is to generate it, you actually have to be high value. My question here is - wouldn't one have to be particularly stupid or lacking in basic observational skills to not notice that one's partner is attractive to others? I mean, most of us have a basic perception of 'value' in others - those we're dating and those we're not. Yeah, I'm super into make-up. As a few others have said on this thread I'll even do it if I'm not going out at all - I love experimenting with different looks/personas and makeup plays a part in that (along with clothes, accessories, hair, body language, even the way I walk or carry myself, depending on what I'm doing with my look that day). I don't wear makeup all the time (i.e. if I'm just going to a friend's house or to the dep across the street from me for eggs) and the amount I wear depends…

This is one idea I don't really have much of an issue with. As long as RP accepts that SMV isn't universal, I definitely accept (and doubt anyone would really argue) that generalizations can be made about what is attractive in a human being. Most women are going to prefer a guy who is 6 '3 over 5 '8. Most men are going to prefer a woman with a small waist rather than no waist. SMV, in the sense of 'value' exists, but it's entirely personal. Each person will have their own unique set of traits th…

This is an interesting point. Reading through this thread I've found myself wanting to comment on finer points as well. I posted here that I don't have an issue with other's preferences and, officially, I don't. But you've touched on something here. A friend of mine (late 20s) exclusively dates women aged 18-21 (ish) and has been doing this for 5+ years. Yes, I completely agree with all of this. The funny thing about the "my problem is horrible people who don't take responsibility for any part of themselves" is that it's often part of a post that is pretty much doing the same thing - denying personal responsibility for how one is. Everyone is responsible for themselves. No one made you act like a dick. "Given an accurate definition" - YES, in that case feelings on whether or not onw has been raped will be fairly inconsequential. But with grey-area/overly-broad definitions, women who explicitly state they have not been raped will still be counted as a rape stat, which would not be the case if their feelings on the matter were taken into consideration. That said, yes, the solution is much clearer definitions, not taking a person's word on whether or not what they experienced was 'rape'. When def…

I don't think a person's feelings on having been/not been raped are inconsequential at all. Yeah, this is true, I should have been clearer. Since I can't even find the article (it may have been the CHS one posted below) I can't be specific but I remember I felt their definition was too-broad. To give a very black and white answer I do see that a statement like "I was held down against my will and while screaming 'no' and forced to have sex but I don't think I was raped" is problematic. The overly-broad (imo) definitions can also be problematic.

Nurturing, mental and emotional strength - forbearance, gentleness - a feminine manner even in a position of strength or leadership, nesting instincts/domesticity. On the last point I do not mean that all women long to be a 50's style housewife, just that in a general way I find women more interested in the home as a place and as a concept and more interested in making a 'home' for themselves and those they love.

Not sure TRP believes women are selfless - in fact they seem to believe the exact opposite. The idea of women as more selfless than men is fairly culturally ingrained in some ways, though, and has been even moreso in times past. Probably related to the belief that a woman was 'naturally' suited to caregiving - for children, husbands, family etc. Selflessness as a feminine virtue is definitely a thing.

individuals are abstractions...Claiming things about society need to have the underlying abstractions made clear This is an impossible - not to mention totally incoherent - philosophical hurdle to clear. Hmmmm. This is an interesting response. Some people DO just have lower sex drives than the average and I think some of these people are men. An interesting thing about the chemistry with a dude I'm not in a relationship with is I have noticed very little correlation between it and objective (or, as close to it as we can get) good looks. I have had the experience of seeing a very good looking man, appreciating that he is very hot, but feeling next to nothing on the lust scale. Why does it have to be about ego validation? Now, I'm not saying it isn't about that some of the time, for lots of people, or even most of the time for most of the people, but sometimes I suspect you meet someone, the chemistry is there, you want them sexually and that's all there is to it. I enjoy the simplicity - the baseness, in a way - of a chemical attraction to a man. It's one of the few times I'm able to get out of my head and just be in the moment, physically, mentally etc.

My post should be good news to dudes like you - if you don't go to seed physically, you have as decent chance of continuing to bang the under-25s. Also, I date straight men. You don't. Consider that I may have some insight into what straight men go for in women. I also strongly suspect I run with a very different crowd to yours. You don't have to agree with my definition of a good man. In fact I'm quite sure we don't agree…

Answering for myself only because that's the only person I'm qualified to answer for: VERY. I could not be in a sexless relationship. I probably couldn't be in a near-sexless relationship either. It's not just that I have a high sex drive, it's that sex in a relationship is the way I feel closest to someone. It's something I need on a crude, basic level AND something I need on a more emotional level, too. (I'm female)

My female friends and I have also discussed this theory. I have definitely been in the position, in a relationship, of being the only available emotional outlet for a man - the only human being he felt comfortable being emotional with. And yes, that included their male friends. Sometimes, in some situations, I think straight men don't always realize what an emotional handful they can be, given the 'women emotional/men stoic' thing a lot of us seem to believe. One of the reasons my last relations…

You could go full evo-psych on this and postulate that a preference for sons could be about potential descendants in hard numbers - a son is able to produce more children, theoretically, than a daughter.

Other people's open relationships: I'm fine with it, no judgement about what other people do with themselves or others. Open relationship for me: Hmmmm. Maybe. I think my one main stipulation would be that my SO only have sexual contact, and only with strangers. My ex used to spend a LOT of time abroad working and I remember being pretty enthusastic about the idea of him seeing a prostitute - in fact it was definitely me who was more into that idea (it didn't end up happening). And yeah, I've had similiar convos with RP types. I strongly suspect that they, along with the fat women droning on about how men secretly want to have sex with them but society won't let them both know damn well they're wrong. This is insecurity, whether it's coming from a fat woman insisting men secretly love fat women or a Red Piller insisting women aren't as into physical hotness as men are. Instead of getting annoyed (which I completely understand, btw) try to look at it this way - who would you rather be? Someone to whom others are attracted and who is going to get some mild shit for it from time to time, or someone to whom others are generally not attracted and who might be a little too obvious with their insecu…

Oddly enough a sex swing might be the one toy I would actively want to try. But yeah, as for toys in general I just...well, I don't personally see the need for them. A man with a hard-on and two hands and a mouth and shoulders (oh, god, male shoulders...) etc. is all I need. I've never even seen a vibrator irl. I feel your gf, I think. There's something so exquisitely hot and...vulnerable (which adds to the hotness) about the feeling of belonging to one man in particular.

The last LTR I was in was with a man 20+ years older than me. Last year, I had a FWB in the 'very young' (18-22) age range that I had nearly a decade on. Oddly enough, the age difference (specificalyl) was a turn-on for me in the latter relationship. Something about the combination of his masculinity (which was extreme) and his physical strength over me vs his youth. I've had inappropriate feelings for teenaged boys before. Definitely. And their age comes into that. A friend of mine even called …

Ha ha, I'm glad it amused you. For whatever reason I've always found the idea of props in regards to sex faintly ridiculous/funny. I love being submissive sexually, and I'm not opposed in any way to (sometimes pretty) rough sex but the whole formal BDSM/props thing does very little for me. I'm not sure if I could keep a straight face if I was ever actually faced with a man in a gimp mask holding a paddle.

Yesss. I sometimes think RP and not-RP may be talking about almost entirely different things, based mostly on context. I actually have to remind myself that they're often talking specifically about nightclub situations. And not the wine-drinking and soft jazz nightclubs - the $1 beers, top-40 music, thirst-a-thons where it seems like 95% of the clientele will be more than happy to go home with any human being with the correct set of genitals at the end of the night (or earlier in the night, behi…

Some of the women in the room are going to say they are attracted to loud, pushy, bombastic men. Some of those women may be hot. And the reaction when some backwater that some could describe as a 'rape culture' (I am thinking if Steubenville here) get national attention is generally one of outrage. My last LTR pretty closely mirrored how you're describing your own in your first post. We feel naturally into fairly traditional 'male' and 'female' roles and it was very satisfying for both of us. If someone says "most women desire a strong male" I won't disagree. You contradict yourself. That is not a description of tenderness. I'm not contradicting myself. Tenderness from a man I love leads to me feeling safe and protected. The answer to this question is obviously: yes. There are examples in this very thread. Male-female friendships where neither party is sexually/romantically pining for the other exist. People who answer "no" are answering only for themselves - they mean they specifically cannot be friends with someone of the sex they're attracted to. Because of that I also agree that most relationships die at stage 2 (i.e. they don't even get to stage 3). At least that has been my experience. Not sure what to think about that, either. Sometimes it feels like it's the best thing in a practical sense to stop investing in something that won't work, on the other …

Necessary and healthy? I think I might say 'unavoidable' in the vast majority of human lives. Even if it's unreciprocated or unwanted, most of us will love and be loved. The early stages of love, that feeling of being completely taken up by another person, intoxicated by them specifically, is, although I haven't tried heroin, probably the best drug going. There is nothing that compares to that feeling, and that's precisely what makes it so dangerous. Good luck to any philosophy or guidebook that…

I know what you're referencing, and it's a very specific style and kind of 'love' - but you are incorrect to say that romantic love did not exist before medieval France. You've been provided with some examples, and no one will have to search hard - at least since we could record our thoughts, human beings have been thinking about and making art based on the idea of love. It's not only a topic, it's practically the topic, and it definitely didn't start with knights and ladies.

Solipsism: The view or theory that the self is all that can be known to exist. A theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing. Now. Assuming that I buy the idea, pulled out of some random blogger's hindquarters, that only women care about what others think of them, I am still going to need it explained how that - which seems in some ways to be almost the opposite of the above definitions of the word - is 'solipsism'? Short answer to your questions: stop jumping into bed with men you want more than dick from. That way lie the negative feelings you are experiencing now. If giving it away makes you feel lessened or weakened, stop giving it away. Also, to counter some advice below: stay far away from RPW. Well, check it out for yourself if you're interested, and dont take my personal word for it, but as far as I can tell most of those women are in relationships with men who seem to need a constant stream of fema…

One area that might be a little sticky, for me, is the Initiator vs the Reviewer. I have been the reviewer before, but I have also had a number of interactions where, if you were to interview both parties, the man would unquestioningly claim to have been the 'initiator' when in fact it was me, or at least a large part of it was. If this interview were to take place as a couple, I would go along with him being the Initiator (nothing I'm saying here is to take away from any of these men, it's abou…

Your adversarial approach to male-female human interaction reminds me more of RP than BP. I have responded to relationship unpredictability with increased sexual appetite before, but it's always been a desperation/last-resort measure that anyone outside of the relationship (and myself, after its ended), can see is obviously a last-ditch type of thing. This 'females' thing is annoying. I understand that some people use it in a degogatory way but as for me (a female) I find it useful in that it, to me anyway, speaks to a kind of neutrality, a bare statement of sex/fact. The thing I always want to say on topics like this is that it's not really the act of doing the dishes that matters. It's how the person doing the dishes feels about doing the dishes. 'In some circumstances' doesn't necessarily = 'guess' and I only used that phrasing to be clear that I am not talking about a woman (for example) being approached by a very intimidating stranger and making the decision not to fight back so as not to cause more violence. Yes, I would assume consent if I was very heavily making out with a man, I pushed it further, he did not give any sign of wanting it to stop and kept participating. I would assume consent there and have done in the past.

Not good enough. You have a duty to explain what you mean by this - what specifically is the bar that needs to be met to indicate to another human being that one is in favour of having sex? It is not realistic to expect men to know a woman doesn't want to have sex if they're making out, her shirt is off, he takes it further and she gives no outward signal - verbal or otherwise - of wanting it to stop there.

It can also be rape if the circumstances are intimidating even if there are no spoken threats. This feels very shaky. Who decides whether or not the circumstances are 'intimidating'? You certainly don't have to hold yourself to the standards you hold the women you want to sleep with to. Not at all, that's just true. But a male 10 is going to have massively increased success with such women compared to a male 5. I don't consider imposing the same physical standards on women in the military to be sexist. In that situation people are being judged by, for example, how many pull-ups they can do, not on what's between their legs. (I think the standards are lower for women than for men, currently? I have no idea what you're getting at. Physical decline is linked with age. Of course it's the physical decline that leads to people becoming less attractive as they age. Are you denying that, in general, human beings are more attractive (i.e. more smooth skinned and firm bodied) when they're younger? Clooney is an exception (and there will be exceptions, obviously) - part of the reason he's so successful is his way above-average looks.

Aging, in and of itself, in men is not unattractive. This just...yeah, this isn't true. At all. Just commenting to agree with you. I agree with TRP that as women age they become less physically attractive. But I also think that it is obviously also the case with men. You're not wrong. The poster you're arguing with is taking one meaning of a word to be all possible meanings of the word. I have always understood amoral to have at least two, slightly different, meanings. It can mean what Zoot poster is saying it means but it doesn't necessarily or only mean that. I know I'm inserting myself into a convo here but it bugs me when people are disingenuous about the meanings of words and I think in this instance you are clearly correct in that your definition IS on…

Wrong. A woman in 2014 who never marries or has children, who chooses to devote her life to a career is definitely an outlier. A clear majority of women marry and become mothers. "Outliers are markedly different. Not just against the grain, but singular. How many lifestyles do you know of that only a handful of people engage in?" I am using outlier to mean 'person who does not fit into a given trend'. Are you using a different definition? Either way, one believes in the existence of outliers or …

I also have a friend who works as a professional dominatrix. She lives in NYC and reports that the vast majority of her clients are wealthy, powerful men. They come to her for the relief and release of being completely without responsibility or control. The interaction between them is not sexual for her, either.

Was it testosterone? I've got it in my head that there was some science behind the idea that at either end of the IQ scale there are more men (i.e. more male than female geniuses, more male then female morons) and that women tended to cluster more tightly than men around the center (note to everyone: this research did not in any way mean there are no female geniuses or morons, just that there were more of both type that were male). If that is the study you're thinking of and if it was testostero…

What? Outliers are people who do not fit a given general trend. A woman who wants to remain unmarried and childless in order to pursue a career is an outlier, for example. I could come up with dozens of examples. I don't even understand what you mean by not knowing how to ID outliers, it seems fairly simple/obvious in many cases. Identify general trend. Identify persons who do not fit this general trend. As for not being a certain type of person = not having any idea how to deal with them I don'…

Your contention is that ALL relationships are composed of a dominant and a submissive partner. As proof of this, you have offered only anecdotes. As evidence against your contention, others have also offered anecdotes. Why should we accept only anecdotes that support your theory? You have, so far, failed to support your original statement.

You're doing the thing I was questioning in my OP - answering the questions 'do you believe outliers exist?' (a question I think that any serious person must answer yes to, regardless of their personal ideology) with the answer "no". I.e.: General trend according to pickup_sticks: All (not most, all) relationships will have a submissive and a dominant partner. Will there be outliers to this trend? Your answer: No. It's difficult to even have a discussion with someone who doesn't believe in outli…

I rarely read a word of Christina Hoff Sommers that I don't agree with. If asked to define my thoughts on feminism what I would have to say would line up fairly neatly with CHS' take on things.

"Aren't outliers by their nature rare? An outlier doesn't mean the general trend is invalid. I think we should recognize they're outliers and proceed accordingly." You've shied away from defining 'accordingly' - why? What follows from recognizing that certain people will be outliers in a given general trend? It seems a little disingenuous to post what you did and then back away from any questioning of the specifics of what you mean. For the record, I do not believe outliers prove a general trend…

"I do not accept any proclamations of surrendering all decision making or all important decision making to someone else." How would you ideally express that lack of acceptance? Would you be in favour of an individual being sued for either voting according to another's wishes or causing someone else to vote against their own inclinations? FWIW, I also find the idea of telling someone else how to vote (or, accepting being told how to vote) repugnant.

"Likewise I don't consider men who target women who they're assured won't challenge their authority to be dominant." Neither do I. A man (or woman) who physically forces or intimidates those physically weaker than themselves into doing their bidding is the definition of weak. I have a strong preference for very masculine men. Truly strong men inspire those around them to support their aims. Manipulating that support is the opposite of strength.

You know what, tho? I think a truly manly man could wear a onesie and still look masculine as hell in it. In fact that might become my new test. "Put this on...hmmm..."

I don't necessarily think "not being open about your needs", "passive aggressiveness" and "constant self-doubt" are feminine traits. I don't think these are gendered traits either - not sure why you took my post as saying that I do? Thanks for the link, just read and thoroughly enjoyed it, the author goes into much more nuanced detail about Theodroe, the vast majority of which I agree with. I enjoyed the hell out of the movie and Theodore is a character I think there's going to be some disagreem…

AMEN to your first paragraph. Seriously, A-fucking-men. I swear I need to smoke after reading that, it was that good. Sweet catharsis. Also, read the SCUM manifesto, it is awesome. Some righteous, burning, well-articulated anger in there. I don't agree with any of it but it's a damn good read and required reading for anyone interested in gender politics/the history of feminism.

ITA re: prostitution. I've thought about this and if I were a man I would almost definitely visit prostitutes. It's a simple way to deal with a sex drive that isn't being satisfied and I actually think it's a healthy thing for a sexually frustrated man to do. Prostitution will never go away. As long as there is unmet male desire, there will be prostitutes and they perform a very valuable service, imo. I'd never shame a man for visiting one, either.

Yeah, you know, in my own relationships I handle things the way I just am, if that makes sense, but the brief scenarios above, I'm not sure my advice would differ from yours. If a friend - male or female - repeatedly came to me with complaints of, to use one of your examples, "she still won't move in with me" I'd probably say that, well, it looks like she won't move in with you, so you need to decide whether or not you can live with that. If you can, work on dealing with it. If you can't, leave.…

I think it is, in some important ways, although we'll probably differ on why. Certain factions of feminism definitely cheerlead the feminization of, for example, early schooling. But overall I think it's a much more complex picture than that. I don't think capitalism gives a flying fuck how it continues to exist, as long as it continues to exist/cements its existence (note: this is not an argument against capitalism). Traditionally masculine skills and values are not currently of much use to the…

"I don't understand why a person would be concerned about their partner changing their appearance." Really? What if it's something specific the other partner is very appreciative of? We're talking about long female hair here. We could be talking about something else. I prefer clean cut or slightly stubbly men and find beards pretty unattractive. If an SO decided to grow a big ol' straggly beard, would I ditch him because of it? No. But I wouldn't like it, it would decrease my base physical attra…

I have a few thoughts on this. The idea that a man performing a chivalrous act for a woman is doing it because he inherently sees the woman as inferior is an assumption and therefore not necessarily a correct one. I do not buy the argument that chivalry is damaging to women. Someone below commented that after some time being treated chivalrously a woman might begin to question her worth based on being repeatedly 'told' (i.e. through chivalrous male acts) that she is inferior. That seems ridiculo…

I don't disagree with the quote, at all. I think I agree with it, actually. Anyone interested in this topic might want to read 'Manliness' by C. Harvey Mansfield. I found the book interesting and very...refreshing. He basically boils down the idea of 'manliness' to "Manliness is confidence and command in a situation of risk." He also allows that manliness is not necessarily attached to being physically male - he uses Thatcher as an exmaple of manliness in a non-male (and he isn't using it as an …

Yes of course you have interactions with both genders. But you're only exposed to the sex/relationship based shit of one of them. It's different - to my mind anyway. I have very close friends I've never had an issue with who are nonetheless total nightmares to their partners/spouses. As a straight woman I am simply never exposed to relationship drama from other straight women. Same thing with straight men.

It makes me laugh when straight men say that straight women rationalize everything (and when straight women say that straight men rationalize everything). I mean, I understand it can FEEL that way, but what needs to be kept in mind is that straight men exclusively date straight women, and vice-versa. So they exclusively experience the relationship issues of women. And vice-versa. I always try to keep this in mind whenever I'm having an 'All men do X" moment - whatever X is, I'm sure women are gu…
