Ok so I had these thoughts about male-female friendship, and thought to see what everyone thinks of them. First, take into account the conditions here:

Friends are defined as two people who spend time together in elective activities, meaning they set aside extra time beyond any obligatory activities to see each other.

In the following cases, the man and woman are both single.

A man seeks to be masculine, or at least your typical, heterosexual, straight man does. He wants to be masculine by doing things like working out, getting stronger, getting smarter, earning money, getting really good at hobbies/sports, or hereby increasing his value as a man. However, part of feeling masculine is having a group of people around you that recognize him as masculine. These people fulfill two areas, showing him respect, and finding him as an attractive potential mating partner or sex partner.

Here is where the friendship problem comes in. The male looks for sexual validation from females because he yearns for a confirmation that what he is doing in terms of building his life and himself as a man makes him into an attractive male who can bed as many girls as he wants. Thus the masculine man seeks a sexual experience from attractive women. Now, if a woman tells him she isn't interested in sex with him, and just wants to be friends with him, it's a statement that the woman does not view this man as a sexual being. She in other terms, does not at all think he is worthy of sex from her, and treats him as an asexual being, or a platonic friend.

This creates a "debt", because by engaging in this relationship, the male is confirming her analysis of him, and participating in the role of a non-sexual being. This in effect lowers the magnitude of his masculinity in his social circle, because he is spending time with a female that views him as un-masculine, while this time could rather be spent with other females who do fancy him, or time being spent improving his status and value as a man. The debt is accumulated in the manner of not using his time and effort in a net-appreciating way, rather a way that lowers his value.

Now, you take what I am saying as too much of a black and white map. A male and an attractive female can know each other as acquaintances, and not have tried to engage in sex yet, and this doesn't fall under the category like the above because a close interaction simply hasn't occurred.

So an attractive woman can be valued for much more than sex, but the idea is more how does she value the man in question, rather than the other way around.
