How else are they going to manipulate our view of the statistics, so as to control the framing of the political debate? We are in the midst of a manipulation of language by powerful forces that not even Orwell and Huxley could have predicted. We can't have a word with such emotional weight applicable men as well, can we now? Especially after all the time and effort spent acquiring the word and manufacturing the weight it now carries.

You won't easily change this definition directly, you have the change the people who are making the definition.

Yes, this is correct. There are two main legal systems in the UK, Scots and English law, and both adhere to this definition.

In theory, a woman who has sex with a man against his will (rapes him) can be tried for sexual assault, which also carries a theoretical maximum life sentence.

In reality, the thinking underlying this legislation has a huge knock-on effect. Those who are familiar with the available studies will know that women commit sex crimes against men with almost the same frequency as men do against women. Yet in the UK it is almost unheard of for a woman to be arrested and tried for any sex crime and even less likely for them to be imprisoned.

In 2011, only 1% of those currently in prison for sex crimes in England and Wales were female (103 out of 10,832).

And that's where the statistics stop. All we can reasonably say is that almost no women in England and Wales are jailed for sexual offenses. And is that really a surprise? The government's narrative, enshrined in law, is not that women don't commit these acts, it's that when they do they're rarely crimes and are certainly not the same as when men commit them.

That's the circular reasoning here: the statistics show that women don't commit sex crimes. So we don't need laws prohibiting women from committing sex crimes or to take action against them. So the statistics show that women don't commit sex crimes.

That's because the definition of rape in the UK requires the insertion of penis. Object rape and other sexual assaults which women can commit as well can have similar length sentences.

The petition does not go far enough, it should include "made to penetrate" in the definition. As you have not addressed this then you ignore the greater proportion of men raped by women.
