this could be true for women as well as men.

alternately, since 1972 there could have been a major growth in middle-class jobs dominated by women that I will arbitrarily (okay, actually, this is the sector that I am referring to) call "Administrative posts" and this growth in Administration may have coincided with a decline in manufacturing and other typically male jobs where women didn't go upon entering the workforce.

Has anyone else thought the growth of Administrative positions was an interesting coincidence in terms of women in the workforce? especially since most administrators are women?

edit: please correct me if I'm wrong here or add if you know something I don't.

This to me goes back to social conditioning for men, you're supposed to "work hard" but hard work doesn't pay the bills. Smiling pretty and (managing relationships)building connections on social networks does.

This doesn't surprise me. I hear about guys who managed to make an okay living in unremarkable jobs that woudn't pay enough for an adult to support himself today.
