the patriarchy theory is the theory that our entire civilization was built by men for the exclusive purpose of empowering men and subjugating women to be subordinate to all men everywhere. furthermore it also believes that every single aspect of our society was put in place or created to empower men, is marriage is an insitution created to allow men to dominate women. And patriarchy theory is the belief that all this was made to benefit ALL MEN. not just a small group of elites at the top of the social hierarchy. and that the small minority of men who are the elites of society will always act in the best interest of all men everywhere. But when I look at the real world, where men's issues are ignored or minized, a world where no expense is too great to solve a problem if it threatens women. a world where even though most world leaders are men, they will throw as many men under the bus as it takes. Men must be willing to fight and die for there country, while no equal obligation rests at the feet of women. I see patriarchy theory as a ridiculous hoax.

It's correct to put "theory" in quotes because it's actually not a theory in any scientific sense. A real theory requires something called "falsifiability", meaning that a set of testable circumstances are presented, the outcome of which will either prove or disprove your hypothesis. The way this "theory" works is basically the way religions work. Anything can be presented as "evidence" that it's true, and if anything surfaces to refute the claims, you can just say it's The_Patriarchy/God/FSM's_noodly_appendage distorting the results.

Patriarchy isn't a theory--it's a political practice, like any legalized form of discrimination. We don't live in a patriarchal society here in the west because there is no legal option which men have that women cannot also have; there is no law or regulation or legally enforceable business practice that favors men over women. You simply can't find any. There are plenty that favor women over men, but that's why the MRM exists--to get rid of those unfair advantages, too.

In places like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Indonesia, and elsewhere in the developing world, there are very clear laws on the books that favor men over women, or give men recognizable legal and political control over women, especially family members. In my post series above, I posted this gut-wrenching video about Nada Al-Ahdal, the 11 year old girl who ran away from home to avoid being married off to an old man for money:

Even though the male anchors are horrified by what the Egyptian cleric is saying about men having the right to "marry off" girls as young as 9 (!!!!!!), that cleric is protected by law and those who practice such abuses are upheld by local law and Islamic sharia. Though the situation in some of these communities is getting better, the difference in women's position in society between Yemen and the US is so stark that only a heartless and brainless fool would even put them on the same playing field.

Survival was the driving force behind traditional gender roles, not a conspiracy to oppress women. Traditional gender roles developed organically in the pre-modern era where we did not enjoy the massive abundance of wealth we have now. Men performed the majority of physical labor because of their relatively higher physical strength, while women's roles centred on bearing and raising children because of the capacity to give birth when infant mortality rates were very high by today's standards. People had to stick to these roles, or starve.

Fast forward to the Industrial era where society is beginning to become more urbanised, physical advantages become essential to performing some work, essential needs are gradually becoming more easily met, more of the general population are gradually starting to enjoy the new concepts of free time and leisure, and infant mortality rates decline. These were times of upheavals of ways of living for everyone, including women who no longer had to be broadly relegated to a childbearing role for the survival of the group.

And now while we've come a long way to expanding self determination for women against traditional gender roles, much less has been done to provide the same for men. The dirty, difficult and dangerous jobs are still seen (and indeed performed) as male duties, while the courts still force men into traditional strictly provider roles on matters of divorce and child custody.

And this is where the MRM comes in...
