Hello to the everyone at mensrights and the moderators of the men's rights subReddit.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask if you can place highly visible content in the sidebar of the sub Reddit to directly address the recent Saturday Night Live sketch that presented a very distorted view of what men's rights advocate.
Number one: it was suggested that men's rights advocates are requesting that men be paid more than women. Now of course we all know that this was satire, the problem is the the public will take away the idea that that's actually what men's rights advocates are pushing for.
Number two: it was also suggested that MRA's are trying to shut down Planned Parenthood offices, when in fact MRA's, at least to my knowledge, support Planned Parenthood, and support choice. Again, although this was satire, the public will walk away with the idea that men are trying to shut down Planned Parenthood.
I'm asking that we, at least temporarily, modify the sidebar to directly address these two points to make certain that anyone visiting the sub Reddit understands that this is not what MRA is about.
Thanks for listening.
George Humphrey.

Regarding Point 2: This sub, and the MRM as a movement are diverse politically.
While the movement may not, as a whole, oppose planned parenthood, it is not my understanding that the movement, as a whole, supports it either.

Replace the word "progressive" with "ethical", and I might choose to make the same comment about supporting life over killing.
But of course if we actually have this discussion, it's hardly on the main topic, and people have repeatedly blasted me, before for "derailing" a topic. I'm also aware I'm unlikely to make headway on a firmly committed stance in an internet argument.
So while I can engage in debate on this, without engaging in ad hominem by attacking the characteristics of all of those who disagree with my position, I'd rather not bother with the debate at this time, in this thread.
Nor with someone who pulls out ad hominem so early and with such gusto.
I'm aware that "progressive" people use ad hominem, and claims that their position is the only intelligent one to great effect in most media, but I find it quite off-putting, personally.
