I'm all for natural selection through voting. Good discussions tend to make it to the front page, petty complaints tend to disappear pretty quickly.

I think this can be used both as a silencing tactic, and as a focusing tactic.

The reason this gets tricky is because /r/MensRights is attempting to be both a place where a MensRights platform can be solidified, and a place where Men can find support.

There is a fine line between being a supportive place, and an outrage factory. Indignation provides happy neurotransmitters, and a lot of communities that start out as activism just turn into self-doping sessions like SRS.

I think that if you are looking for emotional support because you are in pain, then you should be welcome to post whatever here. But if you are looking for others to share your sense of outrage over something you read on facebook or another reddit forum, you should be able to articulate why you think the thing causing you outrage is relevant to men's rights. You're an adult, and explaining why something is relevant to Men's Rights is a useful exercise for thinking clearly.

I completely agree with OP. I have seen this a number of times now as an early comment on a thread and even at the time wondered if it was a "tactic" to discourage discussion.

It isn't a silencing tactic. Some silly people use it on issues which could actually pertain to Men's Rights, others use it when it really is true.

Some people need to think more before saying it.
