Actually, I've got to disagree with you on some technicalities. Yes, you are more qualified if you have an ability to add to something valuable. Remember that this is all with the assumption made that diversity is valuable to begin with. And then, yes, just because you were born a certain way can make you more qualified. Take someone who is born especially strong - they are especially qualified for construction work and similar jobs. And someone born especially smart? They are more qualified than the general population to be in decision-making or technical jobs. Of course, you may say the smarts and stength are worked toward, not born with. You're right, because babies are pretty weak and dumb in comparison to adults, to put an obvious truth bluntly. But some are gifted with ebing able to bulk up or learn much quicker than other babies, and that is what you are born with.

However, I don't agree with the overall idea that diversity should be strived for, but rather that it should not be strived against. So don't take ths post to be a total disagreement with your overarching point.

There is very little evidence supporting the claim that diversity is 'valuable' it's more about making people feel good about themselves and political 'correctness'.

They are making fallacious assumptions based off of a fallacious theory. Capitalism is extremely unforgiving and brutal in its purest form. If these candidates were truly equal or better than the people being hired someone would set up a company and employ them all, taking advantage of an untapped and highly skilled set of labour that people would not touch because of discrimination. But that doesn't happen, a company doesn't think in terms of its customers, only in terms of its competitors. If a person who is in every respect a perfect employee but say black, then you would hire them, simply because your competitors /might/.

This is why the wage gap does not exist as companies would exclusively hire women and pay them less. Even official statistics from government websites cannot conclusively say discrimination affects pay, it in fact has more evidence (although it does not choose to interpret it this way) that discrimination based on gender does not exist.

It states the median pay gap for women compared to men is 10%, and 64% of this gap can be explained by factors that are positively NOT discrimination. Only 5% of the gap is explained by education, which is a tiny insignificant % of %, so arguably women have pretty much achieved educational equality (which to me as a libertarian is the only thing that matters). The other 36% is unexplained factors, so at worse discrimination causes a 3.6% reduction in median pay. 3.6% is hardly the same as the "25%" often bandied about.

I know the article is talking about ethnic minorities specifically, but from a men's rights stand point I think you can successfully argue that women don't need require affirmative action.

Considering that white males are the primary beneficiaries of affirmative action in university acceptance rates...maybe the MRM should rethink its stance on the matter, eh?

Or would you be happier with 80% female campuses?
