In this case I disagree. A woman would have been a much better choice to act as a "security" buffer because people are far less likely to attack a woman than a man. Throwing a man in there was very risky. There was a clearly superior choice of person for the task at hand and unfortunately they went with the wrong one (although I suspect the real reason they asked a man was that men are easier to manipulate into doing stupid and dangerous things, and they were afraid to step in themselves).
