This is why I think it's best to split the check on the first date, and not have sex.

That way neither side runs the risk of being manipulated like this, and if things don't work out neither side feels like the owe/are owed something

Don't take her out to anywhere expensive on the first date. Its a great way of filtering out the dates that either care too much about money or do stuff like this.

There might be some potential dates which might have a fit about it, or insult you, but you're simply revealing behavior which would end up coming out later on. And there are always other fish in the sea.
