On a date it's fine to get the first round of drinks, provided you're not super keen about it. If you're like no m'lady I will pay for the drinks worry not your pretty self for I am the white knight that will quench your thirst, then her vagina will clamp shut and weld itself closed forever.

If you're like 'I'll get these, you get the next round' and then pay like you don't give a shit then that's fine.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal not to pay. Many chicks have actually offered to pay outright (I always thank them but refuse). But it's not a big deal for me and I like to do it.

You can spend a little when you're engaged. And half your shit is hers when you're married, so it doesn't matter. Otherwise don't spend much at all, and only when you want, any only when you don't want/expect anything in return
