Because there are men who are oppressed (I think that's the word you meant to use?), and there are women who are oppressed. There are shitty gender-specific things that happen to both genders.

If a woman says things like that in an argument, she clearly has no interest in any kind of logical debate and has simply resulted to name-calling. Maybe respond with "do you realize how stupid and childish it sounds when you say things like that?"

Being "oppressed" is a powerful position to be in because it elicits human sympathy - people want to help the oppressed.

There are instances where both men and women are being discriminated against. Men are being discriminated against on a legal and institutional level, where as both men and women are being discriminated against on a cultural level. Is this oppression? You decide for yourself. But regardless, discrimination should be ended.

There is a powerful force of low-level propaganda which says that in the past women were oppressed. Most people believe this without doing the research which shows that throughout history women have been protected and provided for by men regardless of whether the women had an active presence in positions of power.

There is a powerful wave of high level propaganda throughout the developed world which continually focusses on abuses, real or imaginary, against women, while ignoring worse abuses against men.

The few people who have seriously looked at this, plus some men who have been at the sharp end of abuse, e.g. those who have been torn to pieces by false rape allegations, family courts etc., are trying to present a clearer picture.

The come back to comments like "men are pigs" is careful questioning: "Is that all men?", "is it genetic? (in which case they cannot be held accountable)" "Is it cultural? (in which case their mothers have something to answer for)" or is it simply that you provoke this kind of behaviour by your outrageous and prejudicial comments such as "men are pigs?"

both are opposed to an equal extent, but they are opposed in different ways. gender rights movements are just like any other movements. there are those who are serious about the goals and there are some dickheads who just bring their movement to shame. the feminists you mentioned is one of those dickheads. mra has there share of twats too. try to concentrate on the people who talk sense
