I know it's been quite a few months since the movie came out, but I'm surprised that the MRM hasn't been talking about the Hunger Games. I think the movie (I haven't read any of the books) was great for the MRM.

The main reason why is because of Katniss and Peta's relationship. Peta became vulnerable, and Katniss protected him. Peta was never hated for being helpless or putting Katniss in danger. And Katniss never complained about putting herself in danger for him. I think this gives a great message to teenagers. It shows boys that it's okay for them to ask for help, and it shows girls that they need to make sacrifices for a relationship.

There are some smaller reasons too. Katniss' district, District 12, was full of coal miners. Her father was one and died in an accident. Although it wasn't bluntly stated. I thought this represented the hardships of men who are poor. Suzanne Collins could have been like most writers today, and made the miners gender neutral, but she didn't. Another small part was when Katniss' mother was crying, and Katniss told her to be tough, and she wasn't sweet about. She HAD to be tough and look out Primrose. This is also a great message for girls. Sometimes, you NEED to be tough for the sake of others, and to do otherwise would be utterly selfish.
