This statistic isn't entirely accurate. Unwed doesn't mean single--women have children with boyfriends, or even fiances. My boyfriend's sister, before she miscarried, would have been an unwed mother, because she and her fiance aren't technically wed yet, and wouldn't have been until after the baby.

That said, there's also a lot to the whole poverty aspect, and the culture that fosters single parenthood.

Also, forty percent of unplanned pregnancies are aborted.

The statistic about white women was surprising. I guess the "sexually empowered" Sex and the City generation is all grown up!
