One of the main reasons I'm getting out of north america is the mandatory rape sentence that comes with any crime these days. Steal, get raped in a cell. Sell drugs, raped in a cell. Traffic violation, raped in a cell. Physical altercation, raped in a cell. Financial crime, raped in a cell. False accussation, raped in a cell. Piss off a cop, raped in a cell. Wrong place at the wrong time, raped in a cell. I am now bored of compiling this list but it goes on...

It really is sicking that so many people think prison violence and rape should be "part of the experience", and that prisoners somehow deserve it.

To be fair 10% seems more accurate and is not a majority. Still if this is true the vast majority of rape in the US happens to men.

These stronger standards require adult and juvenile offenders to be housed in separate facilities, screening inmates for signs of sexual victimization, and banning cross-gender strip searches, to name a few measures. The Justice Department would cut funding by 5% for prisons that fail to comply with these procedures.

The costs of implementing these standards are probably on par with the 5% funding cut incurred by noncompliance, effectively making it a barter and not a mandate.
