Seems a bit unlikely, the whole story.

The article about the baby that had his penis removed in a botched circumscision is actually much more disturbing than this.

Why? Because that male's life is ruined, through something which is socially acceptable. However, nobody would think what this boy's mother did is socially acceptable (assuming the story is true, which I don't think it is).
