Several things should be noted in this discussion. One is that combat roles are being increasingly integrated both de facto and de jur in the US military. Another is that male-only conscription and male-only combat duty has been repeatedly denounced by the National Organization for Women (though admittedly, it isn't a front-burner issue for them and they've prioritized other issues for funding).

But, yeah, this gender role is all-around harmful. It teaches men that we're disposable fodder for the war, it glorifies violence as part of our gender identity, it teaches women that they should rely on men for protection, and it denies the strength and capability of women. It sucks all around (but especially for the men being pressured into giving up their lives and taking the lives of others).

At any rate, the proper response to something is ridiculous as conscripting people to kill and die is to take that card and light it up.

Russia isn't a bed of roses, they still have conscription in place meaning that many men have to spend several years of their lives in the military, so trust me it's no picnic for them, I'd argue personally that nobody should be forced to war and that we should rely entirely upon volunteer armies which are open to both men and women.

Nobody should be drafted. Many feminist groups push for female inclusion in the draft and combat roles, such as the National Organization for Women. It is, as CrawdaddyJoe stated, a back-burner issue, but for good reason. There hasn't been a draft since Vietnam, and there's unlikely to be one anytime soon. So, while it'll always be an example of inequity until it's dealt with, I don't really fault feminists for being more preoccupied with anti-abortion legislation than this. Plenty of people are getting pregnant right now, not so many are being drafted.

Not necessarily. They don't literally send off every man to war.

Also discussions about the draft always remind me of Starship Troopers. Like all this talk of "I should be the better citizen!" is practically Verhoevian.

Wow, I never really thought of it that way. It's like saying, "Everyone has to pay taxes, but some of you can't have representation". (a big starting point for the American Revolution). Why should men have to have the same burdens as women if women get to stay at home while men are forced to die. Of course it isn't the fault of all women, but it certainly isn't fair.

First, I do not mind the draft, i personally think we should all serve at least two years, it would help us break a lot of stereotypical thinking and could help remove the victim mentality that is growing in our societies.

Second, if theres no draft and we get into another WW2 what do we do when we are out bodies? so many are selfish these days that they won't enlist no matter what UNLESS we are attacked.

Third, women should be drafted but not serve as infantry, I don't think they need to be there because I know that the majority cannot keep up physically.(their hips cannot take the stress and beating ours can. Yes I say that as a fact because the biggest injury to women in the Marine Corps bootcamp was hip stress fractures. Also 1 in 25 woman can keep up but what happens with the other 24 when they break in the front lines?)

fourth, back to every one serving, I think society as a whole would also benefit with the discipline and being held to certain standards and it helps bolster your own confidence in yourself.

Now to your question. I believe that most feminists are against the draft in general, so they're certainly not going to fight for the right to be included. They're certainly not fighting for men either.

I think women should be drafted for support roles, but not combat. They're physically unable to get the job done and that's what matters.

Waving your head at the enemy saying "no he didnt" will get you killed. This is from my first hand experience in war (OIF Infantry Vet). Just saying.
