I want to say good for her for spending time with her kids, but for the love of god, don't post an opinion like that in the same breath as complaining about the wage gap.

If she were a man, she'd be taking leave for that 30 minutes...I can't fathom being able to do that for 7 years straight and not being fired (hell I can't image doing that for 1 week and not getting fired).

First of all Sheryl Sandberg is 42 years old which makes her a woman, not a girl. Would you call a man that age a 'boy'? Secondly, if you read the article she was working from home early/late responding to emails. This is quite normal in IT. I have been in many jobs where ALL of us (male or female) were encouraged to maintain work/life balance. Because very often you are working 48 hours straight for a big install and you need to be fresh. She is a hero for setting an example and not throwing her family under the bus. Perhaps we ALL could learn from her.

A mother at home more is never a bad thing, and more flexy time for the working world isn't something I can condem since I worked at a job with it and found it great that I could set my own work pattern (within limits) that allowed me to skip the traffic rush in the morning and at night.

The issue here is did she get permission, did she take the hit in her wages for leaving 30 minutes early, did she come into work or make up the hours some other way (some work can be done at home after all), and would a man be open to the same opportunity?

Where in the article does it say she's leaving 30 minutes early? She's got a hard cutoff time for leaving, but if she gets in at 7:00 am she's leaving 2 HOURS LATE. Seeing as she made it to COO (not CEO, c'mon, they made a movie about that guy) that seems likelier. Get into IT at a somewhat lower level and while you may show up only once a WEEK, you will be putting in massive hours from home. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

30m * 5days * 50weeks * 7years = 875 hours of lost work.

I understand she's the CEO so these numbers mean almost nothing in the course of her day, but any other position, and especially if you were a man, and that's real dollars and real hours of lost productivity. You can bet your ass management would bring that up at your quarterly review.

Wanna know why there's a "wage gap?" Aside from different choices of occupation... men work longer hours, work full time more often, take less time off, take less sick days, and leave work less often...
