Being as 59% of male rapists are sexually abused as a child by an older female, yes, there is actual harm associated with BOTH a female teacher with an underage male, and a male teacher with an underage female (and female-female, male-male)

Considering that boys are on average 2-3 years less mature physically and emotionally in comparison to girls of the same age, the molestation of boys is comparatively more damaging to the victim than similarly-aged girls during pubescence. Prior to pubescence, that difference is irrelevant, as neither boys nor girls are emotionally prepared to deal with the sexual desires of adults.

In short, the teacher who got 40 years for raping a 14 year old boy was in essence raping the pubescent equivalent of a 10 or 11 year old girl. That's a fuckton of wrong.

I actually saw a news article about a woman in America who got 40 years for three acts (or around about that), I thought it was a little excessive, but it does show that perhaps courts are finally realising that there is an injustice here when it comes to gender and prison sentences.

I think most of the "damage" when there is no force involved comes not from the act, but from society's view. As a result, the hypothetical girl ends up more damaged than the hypothetical boy. I think the punishments should be in alignment, but I don't think the punishment is the problem.

I think women are better equipped legally and life training wise to enter and leave relationships or one night stands. Men commit suicide a lot more and one of the most common reasons is girlfriend issues. A relationship with a much older person is unequal and dangerous, and the vast majority are predatory / exploitative.
