15 year old girl "voluntarily separates" from group to go off with 18 year old boy; he's charged with sexual assault. Not necessarily anything to doubt, but if it is, do you think we're getting the real story?

When I was fifteen I convinced a twenty-eight year-old woman to have sex with me, under the pretense that I was eighteen. I did it again when I was sixteen with a thirty year old.

I always find it funny how quickly the black-and-white opinions on these subjects become muted once my own experience is voiced.

First of all: just because she was talking to him doesn't mean she wanted to have sex with him. That's like saying anyone who has a conversation with a guy, or goes on a date, can't be raped. You're taking away her right to say no by creating a headline like that, and that will only foster more paranoia against men (it's attitudes like that that lead to women being terrified to be alone with men, because they'd have "asked for it").

Secondly, as to your accusations of editorializing:

She was later found with the alleged attacker in bushes in the 400 block of North Point Street, which is between Taylor and Mason. They were both hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries, Fong said.

And from another article, they caught him in the act of raping her, while she was drugged, to boot:

Dutel faces seven charges. One of them is false imprisonment. Six others are sexual assault charges including raping his victim while effectively unconscious on some substance.

They were found in the bushes, both being injured, and she was drugged--we'd need more evidence for a conviction, but if there was a sexual assault going on, that sounds damned violent, for one, and for two, while drunk/high sex isn't inherently rape, even if she took the drugs willingly, having sex with an unconscious or incoherent person damned well is rape, unless you have strong, specific prior consent, which is highly unlikely in this case.

As we all know, women are always victims and men are always perpetrators. I'm not even sure why we have trials anymore. I know this because the media and public education system told me so. Vote Obama.
