The government takes over the role of surrogate father for women, deciding which men a woman can associate with, date, marry and stay married to.

Then the government runs out of funds to maintain women's 'security' and casts about to figure out 'who ever will make sure women are safe? Why, of course! Their fathers! Better give all those legal controls back to women's guardians!'

So let me sound out another take on this. From what is in the media it seems like there is actual physical evidence: text messages from the wife discussing the events, photos of the bruises etc. It seems like the wife confided to the neighbor and the neighbor reported it. I dont think the wife wants the prosecution, but it does seem like an argument got physcial and was reported. The police do need to act on this type of thing even over the objections of the spouse. DV case have the victim living with the aggressor where there are often real negative consequences if the abuse is reported. I think men are mistreated DV related cases, but I'm not so sure this is one of them.
