Ideally it shouldn't be a choice that is in the hands of the parents. The parents should pick a state licensed pediatrician who will determine if the benefits outweigh the risk for the child in question.

You know this really does vary. Obviously I think that all kids should be vaccinated, but you're going to have different opinions depending on the state, and whether or not the parents are religious or just plain ignorant about vaccines.

Now when I was growing up you couldn't get into school without having being updated on your vaccinations (not including flu). This is because Chicken Pox spreads fast and the school cannot afford to lose money, plus it means the kids are out and miserable for a while. However, you do still have those parents who will not vaccinate due to certain reasons (ex; HPV vaccine made a girl retarded mumbo jumbo).

As of now no one can force a parent to take their kid in to get vaccinated, but there are people trying to implement laws so that these kids can get vaccinated. So really, depending on where you are, as well as the feelings of the judge, a parent may have the right or may not.

This should not really be an issue at all. Vaccination in my opinion should (in my area continue to be) be mandatory for children in school unless a doctor states the vaccination will cause harm due to some allergy or condition. Widespread vaccination prevents a disease from coming back. If older children are not vaccinated due to some stupid religious reason or retarded parent and that child gets sick, they can infect and kill (as has happened with the whooping cough) kids too young to be vaccinated.

It should not be an option to not get vaccinated if you want to participate in general society.
