I was talking to a friend of mine earlier this week, about a tv show (Game of thrones) that we both enjoy. He mentioned, during the conversation, that its a shame that our friends feminist (but really cool and open minded gf) doesn't like the show for how it portrays women (as sex objects, who have no control). I understand her viewpoint, and respect it, but I mentioned to my friend that it also shows the men in the show in a negative light, (most are rapists, backstabbing, drunk brutes, and more negative stereotypes.) His response was this half grinning, stating the obvious retort: "Thats what men are. " It's shit like this that pisses me off, these accepted falsehoods (even in the male community) that support negative stereotypes, and laws which are often used to destroy even the most honest caring fathers, brothers, uncles, and sons.
Note: I apologize, but maybe I wasn't clear. I am not sure of her argument, I heard it from someone else. Though I can assume that thats her argument, it is not the reason I posted this topic. I am more so concerned that even some males support or won't stand up against stereotypes that could potentially harm them. So please lay of my feminist friend, she's actually really really cool and hates the negative gendering of both women and men.
