I'm a very late bloomer. I'm 28 and finally getting out of my house. I live with my parents, my grand mother and two younger siblings.

The thing is, my father is 59 years old and was always a freelancer. He was never the brightest mind when it comes to business. He was always kind of idealistic and waited for others to give him stuff (recognition, job, etc), instead of busting his ass to get it. In the end, he got screwed over in the last two jobs because the value he brought to both companies was very low and his price he asked for was very high.

Being an idealistic freelancer, he didn't even take precautions and when he got screwed over, he had no legal recourse.

He essentially stays at home all day and doesn't know what to do, blaming the fact "he's too old" to learn new things (same thing he used to say when he was 42 years old and had me, his son, help him out) and the fact "people are assholes".

My mother has a steady job as a high school teacher and she's reasonably well paid, my grand mother has two pensions, and both my parents have some savings (50k I think). My sister is 21 years old and doesn't work, and my brother (26) just started a new job and he also wants to move out.

I just rented an apartment and I'll move out in the next two weeks. My parents would never not stop me, of course, but they are very worried because they have taxes to pay, food to buy, a mortgage, etc, and my father has zero prospects of getting a new job. And his attitude doesn't help, either. He only wishes to work on what he did all his life (computer programmer), but won't try to learn new things. For example, he once got a job offer from a friend nearby to work on a factory (really good salary, job security, etc), but he turned it down because "he wants to do his stuff from home".

Even if I contribute when I live here (pay the bills, buy food, etc), they have the assurance that there's an extra salary at home. Me leaving (and my brother next) will leave them without two salaries.

I don't like this. I wanna cut the cord, get out and start living, but it hurts me to see them in a potentially dire situation. They sure as hell won't starve to death nor lose the house, but my mother will end up getting sick (she's worries about everything), my father won't change his attitude, and I'll ultimately feel responsible.

Any of you ever faced something like this? Any advice for me? Thank you.
