it's a possibility. there's really not enough data here. You also may have asked for $2.00 / hour more than her, or presented with an attitude that your interviewer disliked, or wore clown shoes and a tank top to the interview.

Who knows, really. It could have been a number of things and we'd need more data. Did the interviewer ask you how long you planned on working there? Since you are older, maybe you have some plans to relocate soon?

It's more than likely because you have more years of work experience under your belt and would have commanded more money. For something like this it would help you to probably shorten your resume (i.e take away a few jobs and titles); they probably just wanted someone they could pay an entry-level salary and would hang around there for a while.

Could be any number of things. Did you fill out the application correctly? Did you leave anything blank. Was your handwriting neat? Do you have a criminal background? Did they have a Q&A section on the application? Before jumping on the MvsF train you might want to provide more details.

Impossible to say. Really, unless you have statements or similar, questions like these need to be answered statistically, at the societal level, not individually. It's a bit like blaming any individual forest fire on global warming.

The answer is probably yes. Having worked in the technology field for many years, I have not only witnessed but participated in preferential treatment of female job candidates.
