I think this chart may be explained as a stay at home mom versus a working dad. If the mother is home all the time, then of course they are working on physical needs to a greater degree than fathers. They have more time to do it. If the wife makes all the meals, again that means she is meeting physical needs. It seems to be a skewed result.

I get what you're trying to say (that dads > moms because they spend more time playing with their kids), but the chart doesn't support you at all. It says that men devote a greater percentage of their childcare time to playing, teaching, etc., but since women devote so much more time to childcare overall, they still spend more time playing/teaching (28 minutes versus 18 minutes for men) than men do. This can probably be explained by the fact that there are a lot more full-time moms than full-time dads, more moms with custody than dads with custody, more dads working full-time than moms working full-time, etc., but the numbers themselves don't make men look great if you take them at first appearance.

Men spend much more time at work than women. According to Statistics Canada, men in 2005 spent on average 6.3 hours per day doing paid work as opposed to 4.4 for women. Yes, they did less unpaid work on average per day (2.5 hours per day versus 4.3), but it evens out. On average, men spent 8.8 hours and women did 8.7 hours per day of paid and unpaid work!

A recent 25-nation study by economists from Berlin, Brussels and Texas, which included rich and poor nations, found men do as much work as women when all types of work are combined.

A University of Maryland study found the total workloads of married mothers and fathers is roughly equal when paid work is added to child care and housework, at 65 hours a week for mothers and 64 hours for fathers.

A University of Michigan study found women work an average of 11 hours more housework per week more than men while men an average of 14 hours per week more than women outside the home.

Blaming men for women’s choices is unfair. In fact research shows most men have no problem with their wives outearning them.

Research also shows most working dads would quit or take a pay cut to spend more time with kids if their spouses could support the family.

Research also shows that parents share workloads more when mothers allow men to be primary parents.

The caption over the graph says "And mothers and fathers do different types of childcare, with dads doing more of what we might think of as the “fun stuff”.

The unpaid work categories only include things women do, none of the things men do.

Pure propaganda, it tries to imply women do more without providing a basis of comparison. In reality both contribute to the family, but men spend more overall hours on pain and unpaid work. From the article you would never know this.

Do women devote any of their time to making their children better people? It seems to me most moms just make sure the kids don't get into too much trouble, but they never really teach them anything about life.
