He could also sue his mother for tuition and medical coverage as payment for the fraud and deciept she purpetrated on him and his father. In the US the judge in family court can order her to support him till he get's over the trauma she has caused him, and it will take a while and ongoing counseling is very expensive

Very sad scenario. Would it be possible for you to disclose the other country in which he has citizenship, as well the state he currently lives in and institution he attends?

Theoretically, he could attend college in his father's country, though there could be language barriers (depending on how old he was when he was kidnapped) and other bureaucratic hurdles in dealing w/ any sort of immigration or enrollment issues.

Knowing his city/state would be helpful in finding resources for him, and knowing his birth country may be helpful in finding consular services that might help him as well. Furthermore, knowing his educational institution may help us find out who to contact re: financial aid, getting documentation together in order to declare himself independent of his parents' income in order to qualify for aid, etc.

I understand if you don't want to divulge these things b/c of privacy issues, but I hope at the very least this provides you and your friend w/ a starting point. It may also be helpful to find out if the college offers student counseling services to help him deal w/ the emotional/psychological aspects of this terrible and surprising revelation and its after-effects.

I believe, if he has dual citizenship, he can get a green-card for his father.

He can finish school here, and be with his father; best of both worlds. Unless his father doesn't want to come to America, which is understandable.

Not sure what else he could do about the mother aside from contacting the police and other government agencies.

Damn. I have had ex gfs who have told me all sorts of horror stories about parental alienation and what not but this takes the cake. I would look into pressing civil and criminal charges against the mom, which is difficult for him I am sure since it's his mom or maybe not IDK. I have studied a little bit in other countries and they usually have fairly good schools, but again it depends on the country. If he has dual citizen ship he may be able to get his father citizenship but it's usually a long wrong but he shouldn't have too much problems getting a extended visa for his father but again it depends on the country and our relationship with them.
