This is very easy to explain, although most women don't like the answer.

Women look up the payscale for their life partners, not down it. The more successful they are, the more they earn. The more they earn, the fewer higher earning male partners available for them to choose from.

I was curious about the study mentioned in this article b/c it raised some red flags for me, so I did a little digging around. The lead researcher is a Christian, which is not in and of itself a problem or bad thing at all, but it seems as though he he does have a marriage-driven ideology rooted in a religious tradition that many younger people are rejecting, and I find the resulting alarmism in the CNN blog post to be very problematic.
