I was in an office building today with my wife. The men's bathroom was unlocked but the women's required a key. What gives?

Maybe the bathroom is locked because it is was being routinely made filthy? Maybe the women in the building are not happy with the cleanliness, so now it's locked all the time? Other possibilities, maybe there's a condom/tampon/whatever machine in there that someone tried to steal money from?

You don't know any more than I do, yet you default to 'women feel unsafe from us men'. That's a little bit worrying, to be honest. Keep it in perspective: you don't know the reason. If you want to find out, go and ask someone.

No. Not an issue for men.

Some women can be very obsessive about the cleanliness of bathrooms. If there is any way they can get a bathroom to themselves and keep the general public (including other women) out, they will. Making it key access is just a way to keep other people away.

Meanwhile, you are free to take a piss whenever you need. Trust me. We have it better.

A friend of mine is the cleaner in a the large complex I work at. One of his jobs is to clean both the male and female toilets. He says, without exeption, female toilets are pigstys. He is talking about shit and piss on the floor. Men toilets tend to have hand towels on the floor and water all over the basins but at least men keep their bodily wastes in the toilets. I suspect the female toilets in the building were locked so management know which females are actually using them.

It is part of a trend I'm noticing.

Much like buses making special stops just for women, or women-only trains, or women-only shelters... there is this notion that women need special protections from the evil man-populace.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were just a single instance, but it is a mentality that has a growing number of places it is being put into effect.

The most worrysome parts is that first there is no limit on it, the rationale can be used everywhere from flights to restaurants. The second part is that the reverse, where men would try to exclude women, is distinctly attacked as being sexist.

Hypocrisy and paranoia is what it is.
